This video both crushes my soul but equally soothes it at the same time. The reason that it crushes my soul is that I know exactly how those owners feel about their vehicles. I bet, just like us with our Freelander 2 and Yeti, it's far, far more than just a vehicle. With the fact that they are willing to spend that much money goes to show that those VW's belong to people who see them as part of their life and not just something which can take them from A-to-B and are easily replaceable. So it crushes me that they are put into a position where they are somewhat forced to pay big money bills for no real fault of their own. Although it does sooth my soul knowing that there are car/van owners out there that are willing to put money into their pride and joy to keep it going rather than taking the easy route and joining this throw away society that we seem to live it. 😃 But also that companies like Darkside that will go above and beyond to keep this vehicles on the road. I can imagine if either of the owners were to take their Transporter to a random garage, they would probably be told to either scrap it, or the bill would be double, if not triple what you guys are charging. I think this video goes to show that Darkside is full of diesel-heads and not just another "get rich quick" garage that wants to fleece every customer that they see. 👌😃 - Scott

It just goes to show that the German vehicle industries reputation is completely misplaced on modern vehicles. To have to replace the engine in an 8 year old van is criminal. To have to add the expense of all the extras needed on that T6 is just disgraceful. I know you guys are just doing the job but honestly VW should be held to account for this.

I was thrilled when the biTDI came out. However, diesel engines with this much power/displacement often yield terrible reliability. The M550ds engine is another example. Bloody fast, but my god do they fail. They should’ve kept the good old 2.5 TDI in the Transporters. I loved ours so much. 470.000 kms on the clock when my father sold it. It got a new alternator at some point….and that was it I believe? The van around the engine wore away faster than the old lump itself 😂
@DarksideDevelopments
@DarksideDevelopments 6 күн бұрын
It's not the engine thats the issue it's the emissions control devices, this is usually the problem on all newer vehicles. The earlier 2.5's either didn't have DPF or had a very basic DPF and EGR system, start adding low pressure EGR, Adblue, secondary cats and 5 more sensors and it turns in to a nightmare if not well maintained.
@Hekkie
@Hekkie 5 күн бұрын
@@DarksideDevelopments Didn’t mention that, you’re absolutely right 👍 although I have read on mechanics forums about turbos blowing out gaskets and leaking oil (i.e. M550d), weak rod bearings and oil scraper rings getting stuck. But I suppose some of those failures can be induced by a malfunctioning/clogged EGR as well
@jasoneldridge4738
@jasoneldridge4738 2 күн бұрын
The issue was caused by the egr material ( alloy ),reacting to exhaust gases and turning into aluminium oxide ,which is basically grinding paste and then gets drawn into cylinders. They changed the material on the latest egr valves.

Friend of mine bought a Caravelle as he has a big family and needed something 4wd with plenty of seats. It was an Executive or something, and like a 5 star hotel on wheels. But the week after he bought it the oil light came on. Over the next 3 weeks it went through 2 gallons of oil. The dealership were complete assholes about it. They took it back and "fixed" it twice but it still consumed alot of oil. They messed him around big style and he had to threaten legal action. Ended up returning it and eventually getting his money back. He was gutted because it was a fantastic bit of kit apart from the engine. Ended up buying a Tourneo

While there is clearly some blame for VW the way people drive is also a factor in these faults. Look up average journey distance in the UK - you will be shocked. Basically large diesel engine are not even getting warm and are getting no time to complete regens. Sometimes vans are left idling too which is another no-no. Most users would be better off with a petrol... but VW don't sell those in the UK (in vans) any more and when they did the government incentivised diesel over petrol. In reality the average journey we see only really suits an EV but we allsee the hatred for those and they aren't great for longer runs at the minute.

Hi Guys i have a 2022 204 dsg highline lwb FWD, ive had it since new and have serviced it 3 times in 30,000 miles .what can i do now to prevent this from happening. I have no intention of selling our van service it every 10,000 miles regardless. I dont use it for short journeys only trips of over 100 miles or more. I only use shell fuel but only occasionally use V power. Is it worth using it more regularly.

You don't need to worry about this particular issue as it's specific to CFCA engine code. That said I'm sure there will be some problems that start to show over time, avoiding the longlife service intervals helps!

No wonder in Australia why these are a rare sight and at only a 150000 kilometres when you need to replace at the cost of £13000 and convert that into Australia dollars these are Avery expensive propersition and l can understand why the biggest selling van by far is the Toyota Hiace and now Australia Post are using Toyota Hiaces and they are replacing the Renault vans although there are Kia and Hyundai vans available but the Hiace outsells any other van in Australia and Toyota's out sell any other car brand and that not for a couple of years fot the past 25 years and there the only other car brand that can take number one spot is Mazda but there are very few Mazda vans driving around and there are more Hiluxes driving around than the BT50 and Amy were in Australia you are never to far from a Toyota and that includes me because l own a 1997 Toyota Hilux that has done only 439000 kilometres
