That's because the game was made by a comic artist who made comic books just like the ones you're describing. Joe Madureira. He did art for comics for Marvel and DC if I'm not mistaken. Then he decided he wanted to make a game and do art for a game wholly his own. The closest of his personal works to this would be Battle Chasers.

I love this franchise for this reason. Each game is completely different. In times like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Gears of War and pretty much every ip get sequel after sequel that plays almost the same, Darksiders was very endearing for me by always going for a different approach. The first one focus in the Zelda style design.. second one feels more RPG with lots of loot and status.. third one a bit of Souls like... Genesis isometric twin shooter/Diablo kinda thing... I wouldn't be surprise if Darksiders 4 is basically a shooter or even a fps.

@@Lugbzurg I'm speaking more about teenagers. When I usually see some complaint about things I like the slightest bit of edge is what turns them off. I know a lot of it is just surface level stuff and they never actually look beyond that surface but that's enough to make people avoid the stuff. One thing I've been seeing recently as of the last few years in the anime community is that people will actively deny things they don't personally like being in stuff. Something like Attack on Titan having some edge is something people will deny yet they'll avoid anything else with edge. I'm not expecting people to enjoy a character like Death or anything but calling something Devil May Cry shit because Dante is Dante is just ridiculous to me. Darksiders 3 is the worst one saddly
@orande99164 жыл бұрын
Personally: Darksiders 1: A fun experience. It’s nice to get to know War and see his journey. The Watcher is the textbook definition of a foil, being War’s opposite for the most part. Their dynamic is fun to watch even if it can feel one-sided. The game has some really nice moments (The coliseum in the Ashland’s for example) and is overall very fun. It also has some really great puzzles. The combat is satisfying but I stopped being interested in it after a while. Maybe it got repetitive or something but eventually I got bored. As far as I’m concerned the biggest failure in the combat are the wrath abilities, I almost never felt the need to use them. The story is also simple but it works for the game so it’s fine. Just like BotW it’s simply an excuse to let War travel earth and punch things. Overall I think this game is worth your time. Darksiders 2: A flawed masterpiece, the best in the series. Improved on Darksiders 1 by a mile. Fixed the wrath abilities issue I had with 1, they felt like an actual part of the combat instead of a gimmick. The combat itself was more diversified and more fun. Not to mention flashy, they really wanted the player to feel cool in this game and I think they nailed it. Let’s not forget to talk about Death himself. His journey is just as interesting to go through as War’s, maybe even more so. I think they did a great job at carving out Death’s personality and not just making him “evil” per se as so many of us would expect the concept of Death to be. I vastly prefer this games story. Not only is it more diverse but I think it has better pacing than 1. Also, this game has some of the best puzzles and dungeons in the series. The Ivory Citadel, The City of the Dead, The Foundry are some of the really good ones. But the game also has some dungeons like The Judicator’s Tomb, which if you’ve played the game I’m sure you’ll agree is a shit dungeon. Also it’s clear some parts of the game for WAY less focus than others (Shadows Edge) and even if they’re not bad it definitely shows. I still think the good greatly outweighs the bad, but I’m not blind to some of the game’s issues. But like I said, I’d say this is the best in the series. Darksiders 3: A significant downgrade from 2. Possibly the worst isn’t the series, depends on how entertaining you found 1. Fury is by far the least likable and interesting of the Horseman, and I haven’t even played as Strife yet. She’s just asshole turned up to 11 for like 70% of the game. I’d probably go as far to say that I don’t think Fury’s a good character until near the end of the game. The Watcher she gets helps but it can only do so much. The combat in this game is also very lacking. It’s very boring. Even if she gets more weapons than both Death and War they don’t do anything interesting with them. The crossover attacks aren’t interesting, the elemental attacks feel like gimmicks, and she lacks the flash of the previous games. Fury doesn’t feel like a Horse(wo)man of the Apocalypse, or at least not one that’s in the same league as her brothers. I do love character designs in this game though, especially the 7 sins. The story is... fine. I mean it works and all I just had trouble getting invested in it. Maybe that’s down to Fury as a character because the story immediately caught me when the game first started. That’s all I’ve really got I think the game is just fine, nothing special. I can elaborate on some of these opinions if anyone wants but these are my personal opinions on all the games, can’t wait to get Genesis.

Oh boy! I've always wanted to see you play Darksiders, it was the first game I ever got a platinum for back on the PS3

Oh, goodness, this was a *very* welcome surprise! I have no idea how the other games are gonna go for you. There is NO general consensus on which game is the best or the worst. Opinions among Darksiders fans vary massively. For me, it's been "III > I > II".

I beat this game about 2 1/2 years ago and recently, days before your video, decided to platinum the game, I was sitting at 92% so why not. Yeah on Apocalyptic the 160 kills on the angelic beast was a pain, even after I had already defeated the game on that difficulty. For pride I played that difficulty again and I nearly regretted it during that part. Those who don’t know: you can only ride the beast once unless you save, so when you get to the first blue locked door save the game! But nonetheless I got it done and it’s my 7th platinum (I’ve recently started to platinum my games that don’t require ridiculous online achievements). Loved the game because it was like a grown up Zelda game. Loved Darksiders II as well, currently going for the platinum as well, and am looking forward to getting around to Darksiders III and Genesis.

I'm glad Jirard had an easier time on this one. I remember getting my teeth getting kicked in even on normal.

I got this game for free on epic game store a while ago, but only today I begin playing it. And oh surprise! The Completionist made a video about it that only now appears on my feed. It's a signal!! I'm going to [continue to] love this game.

I'm glad you addressed the Zelda like system of gameplay. I always considered watcher kind of a dark Navi personally. Please review the Suikoden series! The games truly are great!

The heavy metal intro is awesome! Clicking like before it even starts

I think Jirard overvalued how much nostalgia we have for middle school.

if anyone is curious the song during the intro is fulgore's theme from killer instinct by mick gordon who later made the doom soundtrack

Darksiders is really such an underappreciated franchise. I played the 1st game last year and finished it with 3 days and immediately got the 2nd and 3rd. They are really great games and I can't wait for Genesis. Plus Joe Mad's art is fantastic, its like reliving my 8th grade emo phase.

"The war between Heaven and Hell has been used for Devil May Cry and Bayonetta." Uh...when?

I think he just means demons and angels appearing in those games. Not literally all of those games have Heaven VS Hell.

Have a like for that Fulgore theme. Part of the utterly amazing and criminally overlooked Killer Instinct soundtrack by one and only Mick Gordon. I've never played the game, but that OST... man... stuff of legends.

Nice use of Fulgore’s theme. Love this series, can’t wait for you to get to II, it’s even better.

Jirard, if you really love that middle school vibe but with more platforming, you should Complete Maximo: Ghosts to Glory. I really think you'd love it as much as I do.

This is one of the few games in my steam library I've ever cleared all the achievements in. Love this game.

I love this series despite the lackluster 3rd and 4th entries.

This is one of my favourite games and my favourite genre. It’s funny how he doesn’t mention God Of War but anyways this game is just amazing. Dante’s inferno is great too.
