I loved the Pyramid Heads in SH2, but hated it when they forced them into later installments just for sales. They only fit SH2's plot.
@silvercloudj Жыл бұрын
In all honesty, I worry seeing Pyramid head in other installments because it makes me feel *SPOILERS FOR SH2* that the In The Water ending is canon. Silent Hill consumes James and makes his thoughts and memories become part of its town. The only reason I believe that is because we see Alessa’s vision of the monsters in the first game even though we’re playing as Harry Mason.
@xerobeat9142 Жыл бұрын
I think how they handled him was fair enough. What Pyramid Head means to James is what makes him such a special and memorable antagonist, though he doesn't just exist within James' mind. With how outlandish those executioner uniforms are, I think it's believable that Pyramid Head would become a piece of folklore in the real world as well.

I'm a little disappointed you didn't go into the story of Silent Hill. I know it could be considered "cliché" by today's standards (a man making an arduous trek through a cursed town controlled by a demon-worshipping cult who kidnapped his child to use in their ritual to awake their demon god), but it feels like you're robbing your audience from a brief glimpse into the game, especially for those who like you, aren't already familiar with the games, to see if they might play it. I hope you cover Silent Hill 2, 3, and 4. Especially 2, and you delve more into the story of that game, because it's a trip! Also, yes SH movie fans. Pyramid Head is not, and was never, Alessa's "protector". The point of his existence was solely to torment James in SH2, as he believed he deserved to be punished for his actions prior to the events of that game. Oh, and it *is* snow, not ash, falling from the sky. There were never any underground fires in Silent Hill. Silent Hill was never inspired by the former coal mining town Centralia. 💁♀️

Great video Jirard! You are just now getting into Silent Hill same as me! I have just begun Silent Hill 2, after beating the first one. I am already a huge fan of the Resident Evil series. One thing I gotta say that Silent Hill definitely has over those games is atmosphere! I mean, there are some Resident Evil games that can go toe to toe on that front, but I am getting the impression that Silent Hill as a series is and will be creepier as I complete the games. I am learning that on top of the wonderful genre that is survival horror, I am quite drawn to psychological horror. Not supernatural horror so much, but more the surrealism provided in this game. I admit that the occult themes make me a bit uncomfortable, but they aren't nearly as prevalent as I thought they were going to be. At least not so far...I absolutely love the concept of the reverse side world, (I believe that is what it's called) this parallel universe hellscape shrouded in complete pitch darkness. The contrast between that world and the fog covered portions of the town is so stark! Also, Pyramid Head is pretty intimidating and perverse! All in all, looking forward to completing the series! Then I can add it to the likes of the other survival horror greats such as Resident Evil (obviously), Dead Space, and The Evil Within.

The sidebars for the game footage slowly corrupting throughout the video was a nice touch.

Can we get Jirad to complete Shenmue next?

You should definitely read House of Leaves. In fact, everybody should. Instantly had to think of that book when you said "Knowing every corner of a room and suddenly finding a door that wasn't there before" Because that is exactly what happens in one of the narrative layers of this book.

Jirard, my beard bro, where is the Silent Hill 3 in the background? Its the best game in the series, hands down! So many awesome and crazy secret items/ costumes. Hope you have enough courage left to experience the rest of the Team Silent entries.

*"Silent Hill Takes An Extra Step That Horror Games Prior To It Don't And Makes Players Question Their Own Reality."* That's another reason why I love Silent Hill...It keeps on making you think, *what's going to happen next?*

Finally, some Silent Hill! Better late than never. The music (Akira Yamaoka is genious in my books), the atmosphere.. Easily my favorite horror franchise. Well, at least until Team Silent were disbanded. Can't wait for you to dig in to SH 2 & 3. The fourth one is also great in my opinion, at least it tried to do something different.

Honestly this is a fantastic horror game for it's time and many horror games since haven't been able to match how uncomfortable the psychological horror makes you feel and draws you in to it's messed up world. I'm looking forward for him to play Silent Hill 2 just so he can see what Pyramid Head is all about and it's intention within the confines of that game without all of it's reuse in the future diluting it's meaning. Silent Hill 3 really follows this game up very well and takes some unique risks and twists that adds more closure to this game's plot.
