I was the same, although I was aware the Darkstalker games existed. It seems I was one of the few people that brought Resurrection bundle when it was released, and it honestly became one of my favourite games overnight. Also, if you learned about Hsien-Ko from MvC3, then try her in Darkstalkers. I couldn't believe how interesting and exciting she was to play in those original games. Her sluggish appearance in the crossover game really failed to capture how tricky and unpredictable she could be

Darkstalkers is one of my all time favorite fighting game franchises, and as an animator it's one of the things that got me into animation to begin with. They successfully pack so much action and personality into such a limited amount of frames, it's fantastic and I hadn't seen anything like it when I discovered it in the arcade. As an avid gaming mag, Street Fighter, and horror movie fan, I was beyond hyped reading a feature on how Capcom was releasing a fighting game based on classic movie monsters, and I had the images and screenshots burned into my memory. But when I saw the game in action it exceeded all my expectations. Morrigan was actually the very first character I picked (against Jon Talbain) and just seeing the way her wings morphed into so many different objects and shapes blew my mind at the time. It's always a bit of a sore spot thinking about how we'll likely never see a new entry. More of sore spot thinking about how Capcom basically sabotaged the series with the whole Ressurection "test". With the lack of marketing push behind a game that many current gamers at the time were unfamiliar with, I'm sure the execs knew it probably wouldn't sell all that well. I was actually following it prior to release and was pretty irked that it seemed like Capcom put it out just so they can say that they tried, but people weren't interested. As Max said, it was never their most popular franchise, so I knew that basing the likelihood of a new game on the sales of a re-release wasn't going to work, and I'm sure they did too. Also, some more love for BB Hood! She showed up in MVC2, and I like that she's the only human character in the game, but was added basically to show with her crazy mean streak and evil intentions that sometimes humans are the worst monsters of them all. And the USA Street Fighter and Darkstalkers cartoons were amazing. Every good franchise needs to laughably bad Saturday morning cartoon iteration haha.

Fun fact: Capcom killing off the Darkstalkers franchise was actually THEIR OWN FAULT. This was due to Capcom only promoting Darkstalkers: Resurrection (the second rerelease of the PS2's Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection) in Japan. And what did they do when the sales didn't live up to their expectations? Whenever we asked for a new Darkstalkers game, Capcom just blamed us for not buying Resurrection. When they ONLY PROMOTED IT IN JAPAN. If they had bothered to take the time to promote it in the USA or other countries, Darkstalkers: Resurrection would've had better sales. But no. They had to be greedy little shits. I'm glad the new bosses are getting Capcom back in shape. And I'm pretty sure they fired everyone who made Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite a flop. Another fun fact: the son of Capcom's old vice president actually loves Capcom's old games. So maybe - just *_MAYBE_* - we might get to see Darkstalkers return!

A small correction: Darkstalkers Resurrection sold very well, so much so that it ranked 7th in the best selling games in its launch month, behind games like Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider Reboot. But apparently, Capcom expected it to sell like a new game, and they said it sold poorly.

I love that you talk about all these obscure games series of games i used to play, my first experience with darkstalkers was on the PSP, it was kind of like a remastered edition. Jedah is definitely my favorite character, simply due to the air of mysticism surrounding who and what IT is.🔥😊

I had Night Warriors for the Saturn and played Vampire Savior as well. I thought that after Street Fighter IV became a hit, that we'd get a Darkstalkers in that vein. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Capcom just rehashed stuff and didn't advertise it at all, and required that THAT be a runaway success or else they wouldn't make the game, huh? Not that fair. I do believe one day, we'll get another entry in the series, though. And I'll buy it when they do (if it's good quality, which the sprite-based entries certainly were).

@Cyber Console wolf Too difficult in most, if not all, missions. I rather if Project X Zone wasn't a tactical game, or at least had fewer enemies (especially those that appeared out of no where just as the initial was about finished), fewer win conditions that changed.

This was a fantastic video, Darkstalkers 2 is one of my favorite fighting games of all time. Learning more about the series and what transpired is a nice eye opener. I still hold out hope that somewhere down the line we get another entry in the series as good or better than their appearance in MvC3.

Maybe it shows how old I am but Darkstalkers is still my favorite fighting game. The characters were all so animated, colorful and rife with personality that it always drew me into the arcade. Talbain is love, Talbain is life.

Sphere, that intro got me thinking you're like a reborn version of Elvira. I love it. I really enjoy the enthusiasm you put into your videos. Also I looooved the Darkstalkers series. I was learning it competitively for a while and Vampire Savior (the third game) is a pretty brutal game to get into, especially with its community of players that have been at it for over a decade. It's fun though! I see why that community is so passionate to see the series come back.

Felicia is my favorite Darkstalker just because I dig the wholesome strangeness of her character. She's a nudist cat girl from Las Vegas with dreams of stardom, but is also a bubbly nun who runs an orphanage. She's such an odd bright spot in an otherwise dark world, and I love her for it.
