@xBirds From what I've seen, here's how I would describe Matt's taste in games: - He wants to have a clear, well-defined goal that he can work towards and achieve. - However, he wants to be free to decide how to reach that goal. For example, in his clip of RDR2, he saw a shortcut that could get him to the destination faster, but the game forced him to take the predetermined path, which frustrated him. - He wants goals that can be achieved mostly through skill with the game mechanics (e.g. shooting, driving, platforming, etc.), to a lesser extent through strategy and planning, and not at all through grinding simple tasks for long periods of time. - He doesn't see games as something to be _experienced,_ but as something to be _played._ This means that even a game with a fantastic story or other outstanding artistic merit is worthless to him if the gameplay is unsatisfactory. That's just my perception, though, and Matt would probably disagree with half of what I just said. Also, "not worth my time" is not necessarily "I won't like it"; rather it might just mean that it's not worth it for him to take the time to get up to speed with a new game and find editors that are competent with it, especially if the video is unlikely to do very well.

@xBirds Those are all very good points, especially with regard to the open-ended nature of GTA and Souls. I was probably thinking more of his own goals, like speedrunning, Pacifist, and OHKO, rather than goals set by the game itself. It also does make sense that he can enjoy strategy just as much as execution, as evidenced by Souls, as you said, and also the strat creation and route planning that he's done in speedrunning. In the end, of course, no one's going to follow a simple set of rules for whether they like a game, but it's still fun to analyze someone like Matt who has somewhat unconventional tastes.
