I'm not sure if your interested in fiddling around with it, but registered quality pure breed Kikos typically sell between 600 to $1200 per head depending on the quality of each goat. It will cost you that much to invest into your breeding stock, but after the first kidding cycle, your kid sales at 4 months should recover your initial expenses, with a decent profit because of the number twins they have. Of course that means dealing with the registration, and lacks the convenience of one stop drop on goat sales. However to your advantage, at least last time I checked, registered pure breed kikos, are typically sold out before they're even at selling age, because the demand for quality breeding stock is so high, with orders in advance, reserving picks on kids sometimes before the birthing season. Most people use a website, to list there breeding does, the buck used, and the offspring that is or will soon be available. Something to consider, especially since pure breed Kiko breed standard is zero imput. Zero de-worming, zero hoof work, and all pasture feed. You would only use feed if their's no pasture forage available, or to get them to follow you, like your handy feed bucket trick.

Yes I've thought about doing that several times. I just haven't followed through with it. I've looked at lots of other breeders websites and such. It would be a good way to profit more from the same input.

Hi... I'm up here in Canada and would like to start a small goat farm in Alberta (close to Calgary) early next year. I have raised dogs (Great Pyreneese)for 25 years but have never farmed. I am interested in Kikos and will be visiting farms for tips and direction. What I'm getting at is I have never been to Oklahoma and would find it an interesting learning experience to visit a goat farm.

I like your goats they pay you when they are sold, they keep the land as you would like for hunting and fishing, they show that you are farming for tax befit if you had to you could eat them okay your not getting rice and you both work but boy d you have a lovely place to live and bring up the kids + large garden to grow veg and flowers enough to give away, do like your lifestyle

I am guessing that is what yard fees are and may include water, hay and/or straw?

Oh no those poor goats went to the meat market.....":( haha. That's a good profit for just 16 weeks good job....you got some Vaca money now. $2.51 a pound is good priece. Lamb prices are close to that. $2.60-$2.80lb

I had a friend that sold several lambs at this sale and the prices really dropped. They had tons of sheep show up and I guess that drove prices down. I think he only averaged about $2-2.25 a pound. It's crazy how much better the goat market is than it was just a couple years ago. I would have never dreamed they would sell for $2.50 a pound.

I have found that timing is everything when it comes to auctions. I haven't sold any larger livestock, just roosters. When there were lots of roosters at the sale, I didn't do so good. But when there weren't so many, my boys tended to do pretty good. I tried to not take more than 4 at a time. Auction was local, so didn't cost me much to get them there. (my "better quality" birds I preferred to sell privately)

As he says, it helps allow him to keep a farm exemption. I do not know what state he is in. Some states have tax breaks for farmers. Such as no sales taxes on equipment you buy for the farm. So if your farm needs a new ATV (for farm use), no sales tax. Plus property tax breaks.

In the summer a 100% Boer goat in upstate NY goes for adult female: $120-150 100% boer adult male intacked $350+. How does that compare to you guys? Considering getting some female Kikos and a male Boer. Before this video I was going to do %100 Boer. I have 16 acres of woods no pasture. Trying to learn as much as I can while I work on my infrastructure. I have experience with dairy cows and goats no so much meat animals.

Those are comparable average prices for us in the summer months too. At least for non registered commercial goats.

I have some dairy goats and I plan on add to my dairy goats, but those would be more just for personal use, but I want to get into some thing for market sales. Not much at all on the babies. I spent just under $100 on feed after I weened them. Now I did have to feed the momma goats grain and hay through the winter. The hay didn't cost me anything since I baled it off of my property.

They will have to have a scrapes tag to be sold at the auction, but I've never had my own. They charge a couple dollars per goat to put them in at the sale.

In other words, you do not make a profit. You are not even counting in your labor or the cost of the space where you keep them or the vet cost. Just like farmers, never a profit. Lucky if you break even.

Well those are questions that don't have just a short answer. In my area 5-6 month old goats are selling for around $2.50 per pound. You might want to start out with goats that are already breeding age so they would cost you a little more because they are bigger.

I don't have to trim their hoofs at all and I've only had to worm a couple of the kikos. That is a huge advantage of Kikos.

Yes the chickens lay way more eggs than we can eat. Hail storms can destroy a garden. I don't have any way to protect it outside of the greenhouse.

If you hire a butcher, can you sell the processed meat directly to a consumer. I live in California. I’ve ordered online ducks from MapleLeaf Farms, Indiana.

That is only true if it's a USDA inspected facility. We have several meat processors in our area but none of them have the USDA certification that would allow for the sale of meat. Actually every package of meat is mark on the label "not for resale."

Arms Family, there are other ways to sell processed meats directly to consumers, and that is to enroll them in a CSA group(Community Supported Agriculture Group). This is when persons sign up as co=owners" of a particular product, ie goats etc, and then purchase in advance or otherwise when the product is ready.

Well overall we have 110 acres but the goats don't use all of it. They have a small pasture that they are in during the winter that is about 2-3 acres. During the summer they roam around on about half of our property.

Yes that would be about the price. We usually sell them at around 4-5 months old or about 50 pounds.
