I have been wearing these Darn tough hiking sock EVERY day of the year, wether I'm hiking or at home or at work, since 2017, which is about 3,5 years, and they are still as new.

Great review. Although I am not a hiker but rather an adventure riding motorcyclists, it is gear like this which is very appropriate for my sport. I can’t think of a better situation (other than your hiking of course) that could make better use of a garment like this. Standing on the pegs all day while wearing Gortex adventure or motor cross boots for days and weeks on end requires the need for the best foot protection a rider can find.

Groet, Peter

I purchased two pairs of the same socks when I was visiting friends in Vermont. Sadly, they wore out very quickly with only light use (not even hiking, wearing with soft leather slip-on shoes for work). I seem to wear out Merino socks like nobody's business. I get a lot more wear out of Thor-Lo Light Hikers - I have some that are almost 20 years old!

Hi David, I have more comments about people wearing them down faster than I do but I am still using them at this moment. Maybe my feet are very gentile to the socks 😉. Question - and I know it sounds silly - how much do you weight? I am trying to figure out if this has something to do with wear and tear of the socks. If you don't want to make this public: info@outdoorguru.com Thanks! Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews thanks for your reply. I'm 1.72 m and skinny (65 kg soaking wet), so it's not that. In fact, I purchased the socks only to wear to work - office job (university professor), with not even much walking around during the day. Also, wearing light, soft slip-on shoes. Definitely not heavy wear. I have stopped buying Merino socks as I find they often wear out quickly. After a while, I realise in certain spots (heels, toes usually) the wool is almost see-through! I also wash them in lukewarm water - I'm pretty good at taking care of things, and have some Thor-Lo light hiker crew socks that are almost 20 years old! (in fact, they are my go-to sock - not as soft as Merino, but comfortable and very hardwearing).

You shouldn't really be doing a review of socks without data[terain, length of the trip etc.] and also not to mention shoes+insoles you wearing them with. It is only your opinion what you are presenting here. Humans are not sheep and the quality or comfort from merino on the body of the sheep is very different to socks made of merino. You should think more about the topic before you start to say things. Credibility it is called pal. Yours is only by those 100% signs in your video and that is nearly next to nothing. And that is 100%. Time waster you are.
@OutdoorguruGearReviews
@OutdoorguruGearReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rad, Well... I have a lot of data and yes it's my opinion. Insoles? You don't want to know since in a years time I test a lot of shoes and use the socks in all of them in (on all sort of trips, if you follow me you could have known). I am not worried about my credibility and my videos are not a waste of time since in 25 years of reviewing independently you are the first to complain about. And I don't even consider writing back to you a waste of times since I value all comments as long as they are polite. Yours is on the edge. Cheers and Enjoy the Outdoors! Gijs
@radnasirhill
@radnasirhill 3 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Come on pal, this is not about being unpolite, maybe other comments on my person? Did I mention anything about you personally? No. Then get off the high horse. Holland is geographically not the best place for hiking I would say, but nevertheless, the review must be supported with data otherwise your credibility, somehow based on the length of your functioning on the web, KZbin was founded in 2005 would say roughly 16 years ago, let's stick to this number of years doing reviews just for an easier picture, turning 50 myself, I'm giving my opinions on stuff all my life but I will not be calling them exactly reviews. You can be upset I don't question that, but after seeing your video I have more questions about them socks than I've had before. That about how I'm seeing it. And in a modern democracy, my opinion must be respected without hints of threats about my way of expressing it. I don't swear or calling you names and your hidden message is pretty clear. Once somebody will try to silence you, it will give you a taste of your own medicine. No hard feelings from my side for me this is only a talk, nothing else. Take care.

Hi Rad, Rereading my comment... Sorry it was maybe a bit harsh. But I don't like to be called uncredible and 'time waster' is personal and unfriendly. If you want me to share some data, just give me a call and I can explain. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
@radnasirhill
@radnasirhill 3 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Sorry if it felt like that I was talking about the outcome of your video in general not about yourself personally, but that could be a bit overlapping thing. The thing is that there is much more to good socks than their way of manufacturing, socks are never going to get knackered by wearing them at home it is always the combination of 3 factors[shoes, insoles, socks, plus maybe a personal habits related to shoelaces tightness and the way of the mount and dismount the gear. I strongly believe that regardless of the material or quality of the socks there is a lot of hidden knowledge from the manufacturer's side were should be much more cooperation between customer and manufacturer in order to make socks last longer. Ther are ongoing bad, damaging things to both shoes and socks during putting the shoe on or taking it off or during washing the socks, and one thing is for sure the sock could protect and can protect the socks and vice versa. Go to any Action shop for example and have a look at how full are their shelves with socks or how big is this industry on a global scale and it is growing and that is just and only proof that their product is not made to last but is made to be consumed. And the common attitude is that they are only socks I will buy a new pair, but that is not the point, smart people don't think like that, a smart should not buy what a producer selling him with a derogative grin on his face and do not care about the product only about profit. I can wear cheap socks for years and I can tell you that I do miles daily in boots because I worked out a lot, spent a lot of my private time working things out and the same apply to underwear, without a decent base layer and top layer there is no point to buy expensive underwear because it will not work, these things about shoes or underwear are so interconnected in comfort that one wouldn't believe but sadly there is no common platform or joined comfort crusade organized buy shoe, sock and insole manufacturers. Each one of them will be telling us this is the best of the best but if you put the best things together they don't work because there is no unified concept. Enough, I'm glad we are good and wish you all the best. By the way, I live in Netherlands or Holland if you like too. Bye.
