The CRT will never put charging points on the entire network. They will close canals before they do that.

Private businesses can assist with charging points as supermarkets etc. are doing for cars. But is electric the way forward with the environment problems of making and disposing of batteries, the time it takes to charge them, especially the last 25% that is slow charge. Plus, just topping up that 25% takes an age, where topping up with diesel takes just 15 mins or so.

@@TheByard I made the comment because the state of the canal system at the moment is abominable. The lack of maintenance is getting to a point where it is impossible to plan a journey without it being interrupted due to either lock failers, silted-up canals, or lack of water. Personally, I do not think electric-only powered boats have any future at the moment on the canals, as they are almost impossible to continuously cruise, even with a large array of solar panels. I also have a problem of how lithium and cobalt that are both required for LiPo batteries is not so good.
