I loved the interview and have a lot of respect for both of these guys

Everything I loved about NASCAR is gone . DW was the last link to the old days . Jr , Tony , Gordon , etc retiring were the last links to Nascars stellar rise . I don’t have any feel left for the current version at all

ZL1Speed43 but why not stick around and watch the next DW, Jr., Tony or Gordon manifest. I still think the best racing is yet to come. This is an example of what is wrong with Nascar. I say this with no disrespect to the earlier eras of Nascar, for me the earlier eras of nascar is mesmerizing to me. Being a young millennial fan falling in love with modern Nascar I did my research and I heard of these legends like DW, Dale Sr. And Jr., The King, Tony, Gordon. Now it’s time for the new guys to leave their legacy. But Nascar fans complain of the change of Nascar and stop watching. When Tom Brady retires in football for example I bet football fans don’t stop watching. It’s time for a new legacy and if you don’t like it I’ll open and hold the door for ya on your way out.

Benjamin Combs nobody has come up that makes me want to cheer . I bet if said football fans went from cheering Tom Brady to a bunch of scrubs they eventually stop watching . I have watched several generations of drivers come thru NASCAR and was able to find someone to cheer for . The current crop not so much . The racing is also worse and the way the championship is decided is a joke . You will also never get to know what racing at the old tracks was like . NASCAR has lost its way and that’s why it is struggling . Glad you can appreciate the way the sport is now . If you grew up when I did you might have a different opinion . As far as you holding the door open for an old guy F off I can open my own doors

This is great hearing these stories I lived through in my youth. I remember meeting Stevie and Darrell in darlington in the eighties after the race I wanted his autograph and he was upset and didn’t hear or acted like he didn’t hear me but Stevie was outside and she saw me and she said hold on I will go get him to meet you. I was around 15 so it was a good day talking and with them both after he calm down from the race.

I got to see Daryl run at ASA racing Kansas. He didn't impress me at all. I asked him for two pictures when he was autographing them one for both my daughter and my son and he said I only needed one this guy with millions of dollars it's so nice of him I took the picture home and threw it in the trash. I went to a race on Kansas Joe Amato was autographing huge posters. I asked for two he just looked up at me and smiled at me and said as many as you want.

So sad that DW's commentary career went downhill once Michael joined full time. He's had some great calls but in the end it just gives some people more reasons why the Waltrip's are a cringy pair together... Sigh..

So sad that you are ignorant enough to think that is the reason why his career "went down hill".

Hot almighty, DW had a 40+ year career in NASCAR then all of a sudden it was gone because of Mikey. DUH DAMN HUH how damn stupid does a fool have to be. Poor old Mikey was never a threat to DW on the track or in the booth. They were great together!!! DW simply retired nobody has or can take his place on or off the track. Hell he's 73 years old.
