Darrel, you do know what you're doing and build beautiful guitars. But I install both E strings and check their spacing on the neck before I mount the bridge. Then line up the set screws in the knobs with the split in the pot shaft. That way the screws will seat themselves into the edge of the shaft and won't try to force the split closed. Beautiful guitar!!!

Very attractive T-style guitar! Sounds great too! A little old timers building tip, always use a mall amount of wax or even soap on the screw threads that are being set into wood. This will help prevent twisting off screws or stripping out the head, just makes everything easier.

Nice build. A little shielding on the back of that bridge plate helps with the noise, and little beeswax on any screws or parts that go into the body prevent any future slippage or gaps that will allow wood to dry out, things like that. Looks like shielding paint in those cavities, I did a build and did both shielding paint and a second layer in some spots of copper foil, and the axe is as a sleeping kitten. Those are just little finishing touches that are kind of nice things, you never get that on a store-bought guitar. Nice build.

The new axe looks and sounds great, Darrell. Congrats! You and I have some different tastes, of course. I would have gone with a Strat-style body (never was a fan of the Tele look), a vibrato over a hard tail, and maybe two humbuckers rather than one. If I did have single coils, the bridge pickup would still be a humbucker in my build, because even in my twenties, I didn't like the idea of a humbucker at the neck position with a single coil in the bridge spot. This is, however, why we have 10K styles of guitars out there, and why building your own can be so fulfilling. I have yet to take that plunge, so watching your videos on the subject provide instruction and inspiration to me. Thank you, and congrats again!

Sounds awesome. You could probably benefit from a shim in the neck. The neck pocket seems a little shallow, your saddle screws are really buried. Give the neck a little forward angle, bringing the nut up, pushing the strings down toward the body.
@carvinblack4 жыл бұрын
A good trick for mounting those kind of metal knobs is to cut out a u shaped(just wide enough to go around the nut) thin piece of thick stock paper. Then slide out the paper when the screws are set.

It's so pretty. Lovely build. I'd like to thank you for a totally different reason. I bought a Telecaster HHCustom in 2012. It was a beautiful guitar, I was so blinded by its beauty that I failed to judge it's playability, it was so poorly set up that it constantly left me disappointed. Then I accidentally came across a video you shared about setting up a guitar ... sent me off in the right direction. After tweaking everything that you had mentioned and finding another great instructional video on setting up humbuckers my beautiful HH Custom now (feels) like it looks. Thanks for all the great videos :) 👍👍

What you have there is one of the most gorgeous guitar bodies I've ever seen anywhere. My only concern (and it is a minor one) is the cream colored neck pickup. I think a black one would lend itself better to the overall presentation. This is only my own suggestion and it is only as worthy as it might be serviceable. That is, I am happy to add, one of best looking Tele necks I think I'ver seen! You scored buddy!

The guitar looks beautiful. I learned about the Ratio tuners and see their value. I use a lot of GraphTech stuff in guitars that I build but never used the Ratio tuners. I am going to check them out. I also like the 4 way switch idea. Never did one of those! I tend to like the Push-Push potentiometers from Bourns. They make it easier than push/pull. I will try out the pickups you used. I never used them. I would recommend that you may want to invest in some reamers instead of using a drills to widen the holes for the potentiometers. And also maybe put some grease or bar soap on any screw threads when you screw any wood screws into the body or neck. Also you may want to give an example on how to widen any drilled holes where the hole meets the finish to avoid cracking of the finish over time. There is a good Fender video on how to use a Phillips screw driver to widen the top of the holes to avoid cracking the finish. I would also put flat washers between the nuts and the body finish and the 4-way switch screws and the body. To avoid scratching the surface.
