This video is useful but also hilarious! The fact that I watched it at 1.5 speed may have added to the hilarity a bit. You didn't just make friends with a tele, you bonded like soulmates. It's almost like your friend was just sort of casually dating the person you knew you wanted to spend the rest of your life with, and you were just hoping and waiting for him to lose interest so you could swoop in and profess your love. ; ) I can't remember the last time I saw someone so happy to play a classic guitar, or at least someone who wasn't 70 years old.

Sounds Awesome. I bought a "Dog" Tele. It was a USA 2013 Transparent Red, Maple Neck. I picked it up in the Store (around 2016). The Strings were rusty, the chrome had started to spot tarnish. I asked the store guy why it hadn't sold for 3 years. He thought it was because of the Red Colour, and that it had "weird" pickups. I paid for a new set of D'Addario 9's to put on the guitar just so I could test drive it. Store said they would refund the Strings if I decided to buy. I played it, and was immediately "WOW!!". I offered them a $Low-Ball. They called the manager, he accepted. I still play it now, love the sound. Those "weird" pickups? "Custom Shop Broadcaster" Bridge, "Custom Shop Twisted Tele" Neck. Best Tele Pickups ever made.

I just built a Telecaster that has that Magic you dream about, but it took me 2 years of selecting everything from hardware to paint scheme. designing the tone by materials & parts used, I went Mahogany to get a slightly darker tone, a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster Bridge and a Monty's Danish Pete DP51 Neck pick up, Locke Custom 78 Birdseye Maple Neck with Ebony Fretboard, MOP Dot inlays with a Wolfgang Profile into Schaller DaVinci Tuners, Fender LSR Roller Nut, Babciz Bridge and Alligator Pickguard in a Wicked Pearl Paint job. Guitar Growls, will try to get a sample online soon, but fighting cancer and just finished Chemo before surgery on 16th. Seems like Tele is perfect fit for you

The tele gradually became my fav guitar. I have modded mine to be a bit more versatile (SD SH1 neck-hot rail middle-baja tele pup for bridge), but the classic and the Custom 72 with the wide range in the neck are my total favs. The bridge pickup can't be compared to anything else and it pairs wonderfully with all pickup you can imagine.

I ADORE my Baja Telecaster! Especially the parallel/phase options with the pickups! I added brass compensated saddles for a better intonation & stability, installed a Tusq nut, locking tuners, & it is amazing! The only issue I had, was the fretboard would never go straight! So I got it as close as I could, then did a fret leveling, crowning & polishing. It was a bit of effort & I was scared, but now the action is exactly where I want it, & the sound is already incredible. I don't think I'll ever part with it. That silly old guitar grew on me like no other could. ❤️❤️❤️

Over 50 years a bassist, casual guitar fan and tech. Worked on a trashed ‘57 Tele when I was a teen, and it was awful. Also, I thought Tele’s were for country. Started listening to Tim Lerch a few years ago, and decided to give them another chance. Had a few close calls w/Baja Tele’s, before deciding that I wanted a big neck on a 69 Thinline body, and built my own. Squier CV mahogany, 1.75” BGP 54 profile neck, Wilde microcoils, 4-way switch, Gotoh cutdown bridge. Finishing touch was a Piezo One saddle set and a stereo output jack. Done.

I think that the guitars that speak to you aren’t a particular type of guitar. I think they’re particularly good guitars. Meaning resonant or alive with sound. There’s no energy lost from the strings vibration. The wood works together in a rare way to exacerbate the acoustic properties of it. Which of course translates through the pickups.

Ha… I always hated everything about every Fender Tele/ tele stye any brand. Like you, they never felt right or sounded right in my Neanderthal brain. When the pandemic shut down the local watering holes I found myself watching too much youtube and I kept seeing this budget guitar brand Glarry. I thought 💭 what kind of crap do you get for $89 shipped to your door. When the postman unceremoniously dumped the box on my driveway with an audible thud I was positive I was sending it back the next day. Man was I surprised it survived the shipping considering the single box looked like it spent time with Ace Ventura pet detective. Wasn’t even sure there was a guitar inside, it was so lite. Opened the box and everything was as it should be. At that moment I felt this weird attachment to this ugly Tele that survived the USPS. Sure it had some flaws but for $89 what could I expect. Spent a couple hours setting up, filling fret ends, rolling the finger board, add a bone nut and roller string trees I had that I bought from the wish catalog ( to see the quality). When all was said and done I had this remarkable lightweight (under 6lbs) instrument that I didn’t hate and sounds good (to me) Way different than my Strat, LP, 335 etc… I drag this thing around everywhere behind the seat of my old pickup truck and a battery powered Blackstar SuperFly. My playing has gotten so much better because I can take it out and play with it whenever wherever ( at 60 yrs it’s my other option). I easily play 2 hours a day now. Show up to the job early and jam to whatever is playing on the trucks radio, at lunch, at the beach on the weekends… All because of a guitar style I never liked and found visually unpleasant. I guess my point is that just playing any type guitar is good for the soul. Enjoy your Videos

I have made a few over the years and the last one I'll ever need or play I made during the pandemic from Warmoth body and neck, components of my choosing and hand wound pickups that blow away anything Fender sells. You should really try and play a Telecaster with Broadcaster control wiring, there is no tone control! Instead the tone control is a blend control used to mix the neck pickup with the Bridge pickup. Enjoy, glad you found your special Telecaster/Broadcaster. 👍

For me it's not so much about the type of guitar, or even the wood species of the guitar. I use the term "soul" when I talk about guitars now. You know it your soul finds its counter part in the guitars soul. Then magic happens. I too was not a Tele fan for well over half of my life and then I found my soul mate in a heavily relic'ed, Daphne Blue Tele. For the last 12 years its all I want to play when I'm playing electric

I'm going to add to this and say that I think to some extent you're right that people felt the guitar sounded special... but I think it is more so that YOU sounded special with it. You don't sound like a typical tele player and thus what people are hearing you do with a tele is not what they expect a tele to sound like. Which also maybe speaks to why it was so hard for you to find one you wanted, as the right tele for you was far from the ordinary tele!

Teles are great but mine sounded too thin at first so I added a 4 way swich (in series possission was added ). Something about the mod changed it the potshad way more range even the tech said it sounded great. The guitar started life as a squire cv thinline 60s only one mod was needed to make it better.

A broadcaster was the first name for the guitar before the Telecaster. The broadcaster was already a copyright, so Fender had to change it and the Telecaster name was born

Im in the opposite boat you used to be in. I have a S-Style guitar i like, and a Telecaster that i love, but needs some work, but i dont have a humbucker i like. I do have a PRS SE Custom 24, but i really dislike its pickups, so i dont count it. Haha. I do want to put a humbucker sized P90 into the PRS, so it will fix my p90 itch and then get a LP or 335 type of guitar for humbuckers.

I always hated Teles as well, for the same reasons. But it happened i liked the look of the Custom Teles (the ones with Binding). So one day i picked up a Squier 60's Custom - it has a kind of Mahagony Body (Agathies?). So it has that deep warm full deep sound of a Les Paul, but with clear punchy twangy sound of a Tele - if that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense! Funny story: that same friend I bought this Tele from, used to have a GORGEOUS double bound daphne blue custom shop Tele. I’m still mad I didn’t buy it. It had 6100 Fret Wire (super jumbo), imagine the bends I could’ve played on that one 😫😫

I currently have 2, a nice AO 50's thats similar to yours (not reliced)Don't Sell that guitar, you will regret it! You use that Kemper for the videos? What profile/s please.

Always depends! I use mostly Hi Gain Plexi Sounds (Marshall, Bogner, Friedman, Diezel..) or small Fenderish stuff (64 Blackface) for the less driven tones. Nothing super fancy! ;-)
