Thanks for another great video. Wow Cort has massive bot spam on a video that doesn't have a guitar from Cor-Tek - so many comments about PRS guitars when it's a Schecter demo lol. Schecter Diamond Series, if they're built in Korea, are built at World Music (WMIC). ESP, a privately held company owned by Hisatake Shibuya, brands are: ESP (now USA), E-II (Japan built, previously ESP), LTD, Edwards, Grass Roots, Navigator...and...Schecter. So Schecter instruments are built at ESP-contracted or owned factories, and you'll never see a guitar from any ESP brand built at Cor-Tek. Ever. Honestly, I have wished a long time for ESP to buy up Dean's brand and bring Dean Zelinsky on board for refreshed/new lines with the same awesome treatment Schecter has had since they were picked up. Schecter PT models were the company's first fully built production guitars - the brand has existed since 1976, beginning as repair and OEM Fender replacement body/necks; PT is their first model and it's a signature model - Pete Townshend.

I don't think you can go wrong with the made in Korea or Japan models. China and Indonesia do some good work too. I have two tiers of guitars, the good quality USA and Canadian made (Godin) or the high quality Asian imports. I skip the in-between USA stuff, usually eclipsed by the Asian imports.

I own a 3 pickup Tele that Dave Schecter hand-made for me in 1982. Solid Koa body with a Pao Ferro neck. It sustains forever. There is a separate on/off switch for each pickup giving a full range of both Tele and Strat sounds. And, it has a whammy bar too. I lucked out that I met Dave through my git teacher.

Reminds me of a G&L Blues Boy. For alternate Tele neck pickups, Mini-Humbucker (I put in one from Rio Grande with a custom pickguard to mount it to)really works great, (I put in a higher output stacked bridge pickup from Seymour Duncan to better balance the volume, and split both of them for single coil mode.)

The single coil neck pickup on Telecasters is a big reason why it’s my main guitar. I usually put a humbucker in the bridge position on most mine (got one with a DiMarzio Super Distortion, one with a Seymour Duncan Little ‘59 and others with budget parts) but I love being able to switch to that neck pickup that I consider one of the cleanest sounds.

Great video as always! I checked out the Strat variant at Andertons and I loved all the specs you highlighted here which were great to see. I was somewhat disappointed that the fretboard edges were quite hard. Would have been nice for them to be slightly rolled. Still a great guitar for the price point, and rolling the edges is an easy enough mod to do at home, but just something that I thought was odd. Roasted maple is such a trendy appointment I would have thought that rolled edges would have been a natural partner to that.

Last year I got the Nick Johnston HSS “Strat” version of this guitar, and it is stellar! But…. my fret ends were nothing like the ball ends shown in this video. I had watched a LOT of reviews of the guitar before I bought it, and one of the many items that everyone raved about were the frets. Mine were level, smooth, and polished, but I certainly wouldn’t consider the ends smooth. In fact they are just a straight bevel with obvious tooling marks. I must have gotten a “Covid era” fret-end dressing on this one. That being said, the rest of the guitar is flawless and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Schecter makes great stuff. I have one of their original made in Korea 2004 Classic models. Precursor to the C-1. Just amazing. Has the Seymour Duncan USA Hot Rod pups set (Jazz SH2 neck and JB SH4 bridge) with a five way pups selector switch, like a Strat. Looks like a PRS, has that crazy vine of life inlay though the whole fingerboard (sometimes I get lost in it, ha). Neck through, 24 frets, plays and sounds like a dream. It was only $380 at my local GC in very good to excellent condition with the OHSC, so I jumped on it a couple years ago. Steal, esp. since I could slam it on the GC Gear Card with six months to pay. It's alway interesting what might turn up at your local GC. Hope they survive the current debt/interest situation, or get sold to better management. Hate these big slash and burn Corporations that ruin the good stores.

Im doing the same right now and i actually feel that the player tele's pickups are better balanced together.. But the Schecter is a firebreather. It growls and screams without barely touching it and the playability and quality of the intrument itself is way better then the Fender.. My biggest issue with the Schecter is that i find that neck pick up to be ridiculously dark.. Im not sure why it didnt sound that way in this demo.. But yea, im very torn. The Schecter is almost like a hybrid of a metal guitar with a tele where the Fender is just a classic and awesome Fender tele.

Darrell... love your channel and love your reviews because you’re one of the most thorough when it comes to breaking down a guitar. With that being said, all of those things don’t mean a thing when the company sends you the guitar. I know a lot if not most of your reviews don’t fall into this category. Do your followers a favor and only review guitars that are picked randomly and not ones that are given the “100 point” inspection by the manufacturer and then sent to you. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. I'm putting this guitar on my potential buy list, along with the Schecter PT Special. Darrell endorsed that one for the same reasons listed here. The main difference, as far as I can tell, is that the PT Special has a P90 (a V90, if you will) in the neck position, rather than a humbucker. My questions to anyone who has an opinion: what are the differences in sounds between the two? Are there any other key differences between the two that I don't know about? If it makes any difference, I want to play, rock and roll, country rockabilly and some blues.

It's kinda interesting, because for all intents & purposes it's not a "traditionalist" guitar. The neck, the pickup config, the locking tuners, roasted maple, radius.. and etc. Yet at the same time they kept the heritage body with no cutaways or chambering. For me it's a bit of a letdown, since i like my guitars to weigh nothing and be as comfy as possible. But on the other hand -i totally get it. It's still packed with great features and this way they don't totally alienate the traditional Tele crowd. Awesome review, cheers!

The weird thing about Fender is that they often release squires with novell or unconventional layouts like this, with lower quality parts at affordable prices. At the same time, they dont offer the same setup on Fender branded guitars without requiring you to sell an organ to the custom shop. They appear to, on one hand make cool distinct things at the budget level then give you the option to spec a guitar accordingly at the super expensive level.

Quacks real nice on single-single/both mode or single/neck, but as you say can emulate a bigger LP kind of sound with the neck switched to full humbucker. I like everything about this guitar specwise but would probably opt for a different color, although this baby blue is actually not bad. I have a standard Tele that I love but I learned and grew primarily on Gibson and Epi 12" radius necks so Schecter's flatter neck and fretboard feel natural to me. No argument whatsoever with folks who feel differently but it's a valid consideration when buying. I have an old Schecter PT Saturn HH/trem in my collection that is still good as new, never a problem of any kind. Jammed a couple hours on it last night in several styles, still in love after 30 years. Nice review Darrell, this is the kind of stuff I'd like to see more of on your channel. Keep this up and I may have to get over myself and resub. Peace!

Darrell nice review. Schecter has really been a solid performer for many years now. Always will get a lot for your money. One disappointing aspects is that Schecter used to put out serveral types of necks (radius), but now they seem to almost fully concentrate on putting thin necks on everything. Since I can't play these it is disappointing that with each new guitar they market I have to pass on.

Some really good points here! The Schecter PT is a great value if you like the more modern features. Locking tuners are always good but I prefer vintage tuners on my Fenders anyway and they’re just as good and lock too. However, as good as it is I don’t care for the pups on many of the Schecter PT guitars. They sound good but it all comes down to what you’re looking for I guess. I just had a Fender Tele Ultra and sold it for the same reason. I was sucked in by the look and It was loaded but I just can’t bond with their noiseless pups. As a Tele guy, I love Fenders when I find one that I like. Like Gibsons, they are not all equal! I do have a Tele Custom Shop Esquire that is my main thing but that was costly and still took some tweaking to get “perfect” which is nuts for any guitar at that price. The bottom line is that it’s a great time to be a player as they’re so many great finds out there that just didn’t exist 20 years ago! Great review and tasty chops Darrell. 👍🏻

I don't want to switch between neck/bridge and always need to touch the tone control, you know?

Yeah, Fender would never make it, so I built one myself. Mini-humbucker in the neck, I used a RockRabbit angled mini-toggle switch aluminum Telecaster control plate, a 4-way pickup selector switch for added series/parallel, a push-pull pot for phase switching and the mini-toggle switch to split/tap the mini-humbucker. I also did the "partial coil-split" wiring, using a resistor and capacitor to keep the split position from sounding too thin and weak. I'm really pleased with the way it all came out. There is a very discernable difference between all of the settings, which I had not always experienced before. I also opted for a Warmoth modern construction neck with a compound radius. The one thing I personally don’t like about most modern guitar brands is that they use the push-pull knob to split the coils, and that’s not how I’d prefer it, especially when it comes to the issue of dealing with abuse/long-term use. I’d much prefer a single switch that is just “split coil on-off.”

I have a US made Fender Tele. It came with a Shawbucker neck pickup which has coil tapping via the push/pull tone knob.

Totally digging this guitar. The specs make me think the guitar was designed by players for players. Cool.

The closest Fender would be the player plus at 1099 so about $300 more. It has locking tuners, belly cut, noiseless pickups with S1 for parallel/series, comes with a gig bag, made in Mexico. I love my Nick Johnston Strat so if it's similar it's a nice guitar for one made in Indonesia. I will say if the particular specs of the roasted neck, ebony board intrigues you then this is a good option. My only concern would be resale value over time. But my experience with Schecter guitars is great (I own 2).

I have the NJ S-Type of this instrument and also have a PT flashback and I just can't believe these are not more popular guitars. Compared to fenders which I've owned in the past they are just blown away totally not even close and all for 3x the price. I've played custom shop fenders which are worse quality and done play as nice as these do, 100% recommend investing in schecter as the quality and value is unreal, I'd say the best on the market personally

I've always been a Fender girl, but I picked up a second hand Schecter C6 Pro a couple of weeks ago (for not much money at all), to play while my Strat is in the luthier's for some work, and to say I'm blown away by it is an understatement! I adore everything about it. My Strat is now back but I just can't seem to put the Schecter down. It's an absolute dream of a guitar. Sorry, Fender, I think my allegiance has changed.

I sprang for one on Reverb ($667 total, shipping and all) and I'm looking forward to getting it. I'm going to actually play SONGS on mine. Ed Bickert played a tele with a neck humbucker-all the endorsement I need.

Schecter were into making improved parts, like Mighty Mite, back in the 70s. They then made Mark Knopfler's CAR Strat and a sunburst Strat, also the Telecaster on " Walk of Life" . They also made a B-bender Tele ( rare) , fiend of mine has one. I don't think you can miss wirh a Schecter and they make numerous models for eaveryone's taste in guitar. Great guitars! What more can I say?

Why does everybody think tapped humbuckers are some new big miracle? They've been around forever and they've always been half-assed. Ebony isn't any better than pau Ferro, just darker, more endangered and they're both very bright. and it's "full sized pot" not "pots". Your pull pot is a smaller one, looks like a Mouser (good stuff) The size doesn't make any difference anyway, it's the quality.

I think the hard plucking in the middle coil split position skirted around the quack question and may have masked it a bit. Spanking the strings in HB mode would have the same effect. Still, looks like a great option to Fender. I’d put a P90 in the neck.

Amazing what a person can find if they ignore the name on the guitar. It's hard for an individual to find a similar quality guitar, as the Schecter, to even add a split pickup and locking tuners to...much harder for the price of the Schecter. Thanks for the review.

Nice guitar and the NJ models are a great addition to the market. It doesn’t have the tonal character of a Tele in the middle position as currently setup. Maybe raising the bridge pickup would add sparkle if it doesn’t throw the balance out. Could just be a minor setup gripe, but I just don’t hear the quack.

Had the Nick Johnston S-Type. Pretty nice, just didn't make the cut when I needed to thin the herd...I didn't care for the cheap finish on the headstock...scratched too easily. This looks like the same finish on the headstock.

Fender seems to be very keen on having very standard iconic details and specs to their guitars. You have to spend a lot more money with them to get into stuff like different pickups, compound radius, etc. even there “modern” stuff usually just had a 10 or 12 inch radius these days. And they don’t seem to really want to branch out. But even with all that and having to spend way more to get what you’d actually want, I still love fender.
