I don’t think Darren actually loves Mandy. I think he wanted Nancy and he didn’t want to be alone when she rejected him so he stayed with Mandy and now he’s stuck.

Omar Eldadah That is not what it played out in the scenes. Both Darren and Mandy tried to stop seeing each other time and time again, but didn`t manage to. They even began to save up money so they would have some starting capital when they did reveal they were together, and all the fuzz kicked up. He wouldn`t have done that, had his feelings for Mandy not been extremely powerful. This was not a casual fling, or a once in a while affair - they were going out of their way to be with each other, planned a future together and even saved up for it. So I doubt Darren`s depression has got anything to do with Nancy, nor his relationship to Mandy. There doesn`t have to be a reason why someone is depressed. Some people struggles that fight their whole life. It can be eased and made better with walks, being around animals and off course medication. But it is near impossible to be cured of it. Those who are experienced recognize the signs, and seek their doctor to have the medication and dosages adjusted to handle the new situation better. Others hit a low, before their surroundings notices and help provide them help. But this is a SL in a soap, and not real life. In real life it would have been almost unthinkable Darren, after all the trouble he put into winning Nancy back, and did so by promising her he would not screw up again, he would make it up to both her and the boys, just a few weeks later had a fling with Mandy. No way that would have been what someone in his situation had done in real life. He had just gotten Nancy to give him a new chance to make up for having letting her and the boys down by being sent to prison for dealing weed engros. He would have felt awful about himself, had he cheated on her so soon after that. Nothing mattered more to him than making up for his mistake, and prove to Nancy she did right to give him a second (or should that be 122nd?) chance. In real life therefore, someone in his situation would never have slept with Mandy. Kyle`s depression, on the other hand, looks a lot more complicated and serious than Darren`s. His need for secrecy about his problems, suggest he doesn`t want to face or acknowledge them. The drugs is not the problem in itself, just another symptom of a bigger underlying issue. Kyle uses drugs to flee from reality - not, as he claims, to ease MS pains. Question is, which reality? His current one, family life with Nancy and the boys? Or something from his past? If the latter, how far back? And if it is his current life, what is he afraid of? Is it too lose that life? Is it not to mange to live up to the role of husband and father? Or is his urgency to get married because he is afraid something could emerge that could prevent that from happening? Is it the drugs? Or is the drugs not the only things Kyle is keeping from Nancy? Is he perhaps still seeing men? It is too soon yet to conclude, but so far Kyle seems a lot more troubled and in need of urgent help than Darren does. Not saying that Darren doesn`t need help, only that he probably - because he is willing to face up to his issues and also is talking to others about them - will be easier and quicker to help, than Kyle. Not knowing if Kyle`s problem is that he is starting to find it hard combating his gay feelings, and therefore his urgency to marry Nancy is because he wants a formal commitment between the two them, so it would be harder and more difficult for them to break up, should he stray with a man. Or because he feels he has had to choose between being himself fully, and being with his best friend and her children - all of them he has come to care for and love very much - and now is starting to stress about the fact his life will change forever, and part of him is not really ready for that. I think maybe Nancy, if she really loved Kyle, should ask herself the question if she loved Kyle as he is, or Kyle as an image of something she would want to marry and live with. If the latter meant Kyle would have to play a role 24/7 for their marriage to work, how long would he manage that? And what would happened if he suddenly didn`t manage to? Nancy should ask herself if it was likely someone who between when he was with herself as a teenager and herself now, had been with more men than she could count on her fingers and toes - she should know, she invited many of them to his birthday party - would be able to all of a sudden switch to be faithful to her, and loyal to their family, just like that. At least ask herself if he could be happy like that. I would even go so far as to suggest she should tell Kyle that she didn`t expect or demanded he was faithful to her, as long as he protected himself, and was loyal and supportive to both her and their family, and placed them first. Cause the man she had fallen in love with Kyle Kelly as he truly was, and that included his gay side. I think, had Kyle had the opportunity to be himself fully, his need to flee from reality using drugs, or feelings of loneliness, anxiety, shame and blame would have evaporated, and he would have become his charming, funny and slightly clever self again. That is, had this been real life. Being Hollyoaks, what comes next is anybody`s guess. But both Adam Rickitt and Ashley Taylor Dawson play their parts and conditions masterfully.

@Lozzy 25 Depression doesn`t mean he doesn`t love Mandy, only that he has difficulties expressing that love, and being to her what he wants to be. It is a disease he has, it has nothing to do with love - other than that because of the disease, Darren is not able to be the kind of husband and father as he used to be.

Candace Garrett he’s suffering from some form of mental illness yes. He’s part of the male mental health storyline along with most of the male cast. Darren Kyle Tony Luke Ollie Brody Warren Mitchell Toby James Are all confirmed to be part of the storyline with Darren being the main one they’re using to focus on and the other’s will crossover into his story. They’re gonna show all the different types of mental health issues men can suffer with.

Kyle def has depression too...but the advice wasn't the best even though he is right. The wrong kinda people will judge.

To me it appears Kyle is trying to make Darren`s situation identical to Kyle`s own situation. But unlike Kyle, Darren is not in denial about his problems - but ready to start defeating them. Kyle is just trying to flee from them by drugging himself down. So you are right, Kyle is not the best influence Darren could have had here. Darren is ready to open up and start dealing with his issues. Kyle isn`t. But both of them need help. Darren`s best option would be to confide in someone who is less invested in the issue for personal reasons than Kyle is. Kyle wants Darren to keep it a secret, to justify himself keeping his issues a secret. You are also right that some people probably would judge - but they would be making the wrong judgement, and have egg on their face by doing it.

Eva T they’ve already confirmed that Kyle along with most of the male cast is part of the male mental health storyline, they’re using Darren as the main one to tell the story with the other’s crossing over into his storyline.

Eva T you’re welcome the other male cast that they confirmed are/was Darren Kyle Tony Luke Ollie Brody James Warren Mitchell Toby Sid Sylver Liam Not sure if you’ve seen tonight’s episode? There’s a reason I added was. But that’s all the male cast members involved or going to be involved in this storyline because it carries on into next year. They’re using all these different characters to show the different types of mental health issues men face. Warren has a question mark near his name by the fans when it was announced who was going to be involved because it’s Warren but with this bully Felix showing up any day now and we’ve already seen him opening up about his childhood and what happened to him, he was showing signs of PTSD especially when they was outside the grounds of the old children’s home. Warrens terrified of this bully and we’re going see a completely different side to him Jamie and Bryan said when warren returned. He’s already filmed a showdown in the village with this bully that was unnamed at the time he said in his comeback behind the scenes video. XoX
