Darren Aronofsky was being disingenuous with Perfect Blue and Black Swan comparisons. He says he wasn't influenced by Perfect Blue and yet multiple sequences, characterization, and themes are directly remade and emulated from Satoshi Kon.
@lbn64862 жыл бұрын
Yeah, these big-shot Hollywood directors don't like to admit the sources of their 'inspiration' due to their inflated egos, especially when the sources come from outside of Hollywood cause then it's free real estate.
@ILoveDavidLynch2 жыл бұрын
@@lbn6486 I think big shot Hollywood director gives the wrong impression entirely. To make that claim I think you would need to provide a lot more evidence. From my perspective he seems like he's just trying to make films he wants to make that are typically of a challenging or explorative nature and has achieved some success with that. One of his most talked about influences from what I've read is Akira Kurosawa. He's even included in this video?

@@LittleKittyCatlot comes close, his works aren't that great, alot of Darren Aronofsky works have better structures and better character writing, requim for a dream, pie, the wrestle, the whale. What arguments do you have that Satoshi kon works are overall better? Darren aronsofky is also iconic.

You said Aronofsky bought the rights to Perfect Blue but didn’t end up using them. That is incorrect, he tried to by them but Satoshi Kon declined, he went ahead and ripped off shots from the film for Requiem for a Dream and then after Kon’s death aped most of the plot and tone for Black Swan. Videos like these gave me the misconception that he owned the rights but it is untrue. Kon died after years of struggling to get funding for his films while Aronofsky saw massive success largely based off of films in which he unfairly ripped off Kon. Pretty fucked up. He is still talented but that’s foul behavior.

There is no denying Aranofsky has good taste in films. Most of those were pretty good, although I've always been conflicted about "Clockwork Orange"; I loved the first half/ two thirds, but was majorly disappointed by the ending. Also, I can think of much better films than "Saturday Night Fever" and "Westside Story", but each to his own. (Personally, my top three films would be "The Last Temptation of Christ", "Citizen Cane", and "The Five Thousand Fingers of Dr. T".)
