The girl who the drink is bought for gets a cut of the amount. The girl MUST sell a specific number of lady drinks during her 10 (or more) day contract, or has wages docked. When you say that Thailand feels like freedom is it the move or more that you no longer have a job? Retiring (understanding that you do the videos) does give you time to do want to do, when you want. Not a criticism of your move, just making a point that you have had two major changes in your life.
@CaldonianDude12 сағат бұрын
It's a good point. Moving to Thailand and working, even remotely, is a different beast to retiring there. DJ has his YT work (which you noted), so is he completely retired? It's always good to have some kind of "work", even in retirement...
@truebrit357811 сағат бұрын
The only issue with working is tax (I am no expert on Thai expat tax obligations). My experience is most new expats focus on visa issues and give little or no thought to the tax consequences of the move. Much of the advice expats give each other on tax is flawed and represents what people want to believe compared with what it really is. I guess that might be a subject DJ covers in the future. As an expat elsewhere I pay tax in two countries. No great but it’s more the messiness of preparing two tax returns with different rules and filing dates. Perhaps Thailand with all its expats is tidier?
@CaldonianDude11 сағат бұрын
@@truebrit3578 Yes, that would be a good subject for a future video. I'm currently in the process of moving to Spain and would be tax resident there, but with tax liabilities in UK - totally confusing the hell out of me at the moment. When I lived in Thailand I just paid taxes in UK on income sources in UK, even though I was not really resident most of the time in UK - it was simpler that way - but this was many years before things like digital nomad visas and what have you.
@philipbarnard84194 сағат бұрын
Interesting to see how your first few weeks are going. I have been to Thailand at least 30 times, but the only time I would move there permanently is if I needed end of life care. I'm 70 and have survived a heart attack this year. UK care home fees are £1,400 per week (£72,000 annually). Through my Thai friends and family it would be much cheaper for me there. Some ignorance here on Lady drinks, they are typically 150 for normal drinks. Gogo bars charge much more. The bar pays the hostess up to 50 (whether employed by the bar or freelance) and the hostess gets her drink in return for chatting to you for 10/15 minutes.

I think you`d be better off buying a scooter than renting. Seeing as you`ll be there for a long time. My Thai Wife owned a little Honda Scoopy when i first met her. A great little run around. I couldn`t beleive it when she told me that you can buy one brand new for about £1000 and many dealers will even throw in a free helmet. Maybe worth checking out. Will probably save you money in the long run and you can always sell it if things don`t work out. Shop around though. As regards Bolt and Grab Taxis. We`ve found that Bolt are always cheaper. We only ever use Grab when we can`t get a bolt.

The food looks great and cheap but you can get too much of a good thing. The 1 year rent concerned me a little. Will that limit your ability to travel ? I've seen so many cheap rental apartments on youtube that I was thinking 1 or 2 months in each location to explore the area and then move somewhere else. That would work for me as I can travel light but I see your reasons for the 1 year apartment as well. You'd get a cheaper rate and maybe it will help with the visa application. Whatever way you look at it, Thailand makes more sense than paying £2000 a month in the Docklands.

I look forward to your vlog regarding long-term visas, costs, bank deposit requirements, etc. Join some social clubs, Hash House Harriers, "drinkers with a running problem." I saw this sign in Patong, Phuket. Or some other expat community get-together.

Darren, I rented bikes from your feller the last two times I was staying in Pattaya. You won't have any problems with him but he is pricey. I'm going to try...Dee Motorbike Rental Jomtien on the corner of Thappraya Road - Thepprasit Road next time. Not far from you in Jomtien. I rented from them when I stayed in Jomtien way back and had no problems. Also, they should have more bikes to select from than the guy you rented from...Call in and check them out next time you are riding into Pattaya. Take care.

Hi Darren I love your videos, I am hoping to do the same as you in 2025. You make me feel at home in Thailand already.

Iwould imagine it will take some time before you really get down to something like normality, But hopefully it will be all you hoped it would be,But you mention your mum and family often and I'm sure if they see your happy then that will be all that matters to them ,😊good luck.

Don't bother with the taxi's if you're only going round town and Jomtien... just jump on the bhat buses. Cost much less.

Love these videos Darren and wish you all the best in your new adventure. For the bike cost, instead of finding yourself another supplier, why not just negotiate with your current supplier. He will know you can get it cheaper!
