@@DarrenMostyn That's honestly probably what makes so many of your tutorials so useful. You have really been putting out such great DaVinci tutorial content, and it brings a lot of insights into how to utilize the tools for real practical applications. Great job with all the knowledge you have been sharing with the DaVinci Resolve community, it is much appreciated!

"The upside is that it allowed me to do this episode for you". That is an admirable attitude! I reserve my rudest words for when I have to repeat work, especially creative work. If I have been doing a mechanical, grind-type of process when the work fails, I'm upset. But if the crash/corruption comes after 30 minutes of my best creativity, well...! There is just no getting those ideas back, for me anyway.

UGHHHHH. You a kind of saved my life. I already stopped using the FCPX as it was buggy like a hell. It actually appears that Resolve is buggy too (not so badly as FCPX, but really a lot - there is so many things which just does not work - most annoying at the moment: the Fusion page does not respect the selected color science - how crazy - so I am still stucked with the unmanaged - and most of the youtube influencers silently do not mention this problem). At least your approach lead me to recover - thank you for spending time with this video. And BTW: I had some blessed idea to setup the auto backups for every 15 minutes. So I actually did not loose even my latest changes (I ended up yesterday with the test render and it took more than 15 minutes, during which Resolve probably made it to do the backup). I STRONGLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO SETUP THE AUTO BACKUP AS FREQUENTLY AS POSSIBLE. AS RESOLVE IS BUGGY, THIS IS A MUST!!!

I sense that I may have "overloaded" the system possibly because I am running 6 timelines. So far, it is a trial and error event ... trying to "resolve" the issues.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I just had a project file.. not really get corrupt on me. But everytime I loaded it there wasn't a enough GPU to load that frame and it was just.. MAXED OUT upon start, for very specific reasons. and it would crash.. with no hope lol (I was going through a process of "render in place" before export and I accidentally switched the resolution to 4k while I was on the actual file.. ) Thankfully I made a duplicate of this project yesterday when the process first began.. But this video is will make it such less of a headache in the future. Apperantly I'm squeezing the most out of my GPU and well.. I'm just happy I can get what I want without reverting to 1080p. Render in place can be a bit of a ghetto solution for effects especially if you render the grade THEN THE EFFECTS. But I suppose it required this crash on "my masterpeice" before I could actually address this flaw in my workflow. anyways.. I'm rambling as most grateful creatives do.. In short thank you for this video and for making it simple. Have an.. amazing rest of your year lol!! :)

For extra security we use a custom postgresql server to save project on our enterprise server, then the a replicate postgresql server of the one we save make a dump of the whole database Every 5 minutes and synchronize in the Cloud every 20min. In this way we have the full history of the all work in our studio. We have another postgresql server where we can retrieve and recover the full dump and reconnect the resolve project manager in less than 3 minutes. Everything is automatized and compitely transparent for any operator.

My projects don't crash Resolve or any other software program. The companies who make the software make defective products that can't deliver on their features. Ridiculous instability is the thing I was hoping to avoid when I lost a hundred hours trying to render in Adobe Premiere. Resolve is yet to let me render anything in 4K without crashing.
@CTRadventures Жыл бұрын
I have a problem when lead me to this video. Maybe you can help, maybe not. I had bought the studio version and when I started messing around with it and went to render, it would start my project render then suddenly drop frame rate and eventually freeze. I went to my preferences and unchecked auto in GPU and pcu and selected cuda. Anything with any sort of amount of work, a magic mask or compilation of layers this would happen. Frustrated because this never happened before on the free version, I ask for a refund. Or it would say my gpu memory was full. I have a laptop middle rand consumer with a gtx 3050 I believe in it. Back on the free version last night it happened again. Not sure what's going on here, if there's a setting I need to tweek to allow rendering to take it's time so it won't over load the system or if indeed I just need to start saving for a new computer. Thanks even if you can't help, I know your time is invaluable.
@HikingWithCooper Жыл бұрын
You probably never had magic mask crash you out on the free version because it doesn't exist on the free version. It sounds like you're trying to render vfx at the same time you're rendering your project which is very taxing on a system. I would recommend rendering any vfx clips in place prior to rendering your project out.

I’ve been using resolve for about a year now and it’s never crashed on me yet. Cross my fingers! I do think 18 is just slightly less stable than 17. I’ve had to close down 18 several times because something won’t work and then it does work… That never happened to me in 17. But, still way way more stable and better than premiere Pro.

I don't quite understand why this isn't at the top of DaVinci's development team things to fix. I have never used a editing program that has such a tendency to corrupt its own projects files particularly if you use compound Clips or doing things in a unusual way. It puts all its eggs in one basket "the project file". At least included utility to analyze project files and fix problems.
@HikingWithCooper Жыл бұрын
I fully agree. I had a project about a year ago that I was backing up every hour. Well, it crashed out hard and cleared the timeline (this was a bug that has supposedly been fixed but should have never existed.) Went back 1 hour to when it was working well and somehow that timeline was empty. Another hour, same thing. I think I had to go back 4 hours to find a backup where the timeline was still intact. So it would stand to reason that the backups aren't really WYSIWYG but are cooking behind the scenes and spitting something out that the user isn't seeing. It drives me bonkers to see them add a boring detector or vertical reframing while also introducing bugs that entirely destroy the program.
