Went bowling tonight after watching this video. Just on a house shot, but bowled 256, 198, 165 & 219.. This video really helped me not think about the useless things and just focus on the next shot

I shot 268 for the second time in league on monday, missed a mark in the second frame with 2 bad shots, and I agree with everything Darren said. If you focus on shooting 300, you'll make a mistake. You have to focus on throwing the best shot you can everytime you get up and a little luck never hurts

I quit bowling for about 7 years ago , I'm 60 years old now, run-in into some of your Video's and somewhat inspired me to go back to it . November i went back practicing , end up joining a team with a missing bowler last March , from there We seated in first place for 8. weeks .we lost into the finals . But I cant believe that I am bowling better now than i was in my 40's .Keep up the good works and hopefully some day I go bowling with you .

The 200 video has helped me a LOT .. now I concentrate a LOT more about keeping my game clean (getting ALL of my spares) and as long as I throw in a couple of strikes .. BAM! .. 200 baby! .. easy peasy! ... but now, 225 .. requires a little bit more concentration and keeping CONSISTENT !!!!

I started averaging 200 after that video. I haven’t bowled under 600 in 6 weeks. Shot 667 at Suncoast last Wed. First league after about 11 years of not bowling at all. These videos help a lot with the mental game.

You can hit 200 with one or two open frames. Spares really do matter. That’s what keeps you up by a little. 5 or 6 strikes and all made spares and you can forsure hit 200 no problem.

@@goobytron2888 - that is awesome! .. you are doing better than I am, I still have a lot of work to do, only been bowling less than 2yrs (and I'm getting old .. 🙂). But, I have been able to break 200 more often now, and even throw in a 600 series now and then. So, getting better anyway. I find that focusing on making my spares and not leaving any open frames has really helped me a lot, even helps me to make more strikes (accidently .. LOL).

Very nice. If you go bowling a lot I would recommend saving up for a ball. I know their not cheap and I have no idea what financial situation your in. But having the same ball each time and having it fit perfectly will help you improve a lot. If you can throw a house ball at 14 pounds I would recommend getting a 15 pound ball. I bowl with 15 pound balls and if I ever have to use a house ball for some reason I can’t do more than 12. Also I would recommend talking to someone at a pro shop. I’ve been bowling for at least 9 years at this point and every time I think X ball will help me out more. Pro shop recommends Y ball and I end up getting Y ball. And I fall in love with it and happy I didn’t get X ball. Also if you don’t want to get a ball just yet. At least get a good pair of bowling shoes. They are much better than lane rental shoes and you will save money in the long run from not having to rent the shoes.

If you're chucking a house ball... Odds are good, that you'd benefit from getting your own bowling ball fitted by a pro shop. You do NOT need to go out and blow $200-$300 USD, for a high end ball. You can walk in that pro shop, and pick the cheapest plastic ball they've got, a bag, and a pair of shoes, and be GOOD. To this day, and I've been bowling for in excess of 40 years, I'll tell you, that the MOST valuable ball in my bag, TO ME, is NOT the high-dollar reactive ball. To me, the most valuable ball I have in my bag, is the cheapest polyester (plastic) ball I bought. The reason is... THAT is my spare ball! Whether you're bowling 220s on the regular... or you're trying to break 100 for the first time... there's a saying in bowling that will ALWAYS be true. "If you take care of your spares... the strikes will take care of themselves." Open frames are absolute KRYPTONITE... They RUIN good games in a hurry. If I go bowling, and I play just ONE game, and do NOTHING ELSE, but bowl 9 and a spare, all the way through to the final ball, which is a 9 count... I end up with a score of 190. Think about that. Just making all my spares, gives me a score that is much higher than your typical recreational bowler usually gets... and it's higher than a majority of league bowlers get. So that spare ball is the FOUNDATION of a good game... and cheap polyester balls make wonderful spare balls. Amazingly enough... I carry two balls to league. My spare ball, and my reactive. If, for some reason, I can't seem to get my reactive to do what I need it to do to get into and stay in the pocket... I can put that sucker right back in my back and break out my spare ball. I guarantee, when I pick up my spare ball, and use it for my first shot in the frame, that it's going to hit the pocket. I'll either strike, or I'll leave some kind of an easy spare, most of the time. (Yes, I can screw up my shot and end up with a split, or miss the pocket entirely and leave a big mess of pins standing, just like anyone else can, of course.) The point is... you don't need to blow $500 USD, for your kit, at this stage. Just get a good plastic ball fitted to you. If you like the idea of the silicon finger grips, or multiple-fitted thumb hole option so you can adjust how tight the thumb hole is by switching out inserts... go ahead and spend for those, sure. (Your pro shop operator can work with you on those matters.) Having your own ball and shoes and a bag to carry them in, is money well spent if you like the game well enough... and it's worth spending a little extra money to get an hour with a bowling coach/instructor, so you can learn to make the most of your new ball. Throwing a custom fitted ball, is WAY different than throwing a house ball. The custom fitted ball? You won't have to 'squeeze it' in your hand to hold onto it during delivery, the way you have to squeeze it for a house ball. You'll learn a new way to release it, so that it just 'comes off' your thumb, and then your fingers, at the end of your swing. It's awkward at first, but once you've got THAT down... you'll love it, because your arm won't get nearly as tired, and you'll have MUCH better accuracy, shot after shot! That takes some getting used to, and a good coach (or even the pro shop director themselves) can help you. Good luck!!!

The very biggest key to all of this .. PICK UP YOUR SPARES !!!! .. YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR SPARES!!! .. it makes getting over 200 so much easier! .. miss a spare, and it gets a whole lot more difficult really really fast!

the mental game stuff hits home. I shot a lot of 200s with an open 10th, where I was just happy to have locked up 200 and didnt lock in on the shot (usually the spare) at hand. so many 200s that could have been 210s and 220s

I was interrupted in the 10th frame 2xweeks ago by a hater in the lane next to me. It was enough to throw off the groove that I found with my targeting and release for the previous 9 frames. This was the second time I've come this close to a 300. I was left with a 260+ game. League bowling is a disrespectful but often times rewarding activity. My gear was a 2 yr old MOTIV FORGE FLARE that freshly resurfaced back to out of box surface.

I'm a historical 190 average bowler who is currently averaging 200 and just got my first 700 series. My advice is to take the bad with the good and don't get too down when you get a bad break. For every pocket 10 pin (or 7 pin, or 9 pin), you probably had a kick 10 or a light mixer that could have gone either way. Same goes for splits. High flush 4-9s will happen, but you'll also sometimes go through the head and get a bulldozer strike. Everything evens out, you have to do the same with your temperament. Don't get too high or too low and the results will come.

You know the biggest take away from this, is this is only possible if you're consistent. Little adjustments, understanding lane state etc only matters if you can bowl the exact same every time.

Recently I started thinking about my arsenal and more of what my balls can do. Made me realize all the ones I have were very similar. So I went to the pro shop and talked to them and explained my problem. They recommended the Storm Revenant. Normally I would use one ball for strike and have a spare ball for certain spares but that was really it. But now I will switch the strike ball depending on what the current ball I’m using is doing. Last week I was bowling a game and half way through my dark legend started to hook a ton more. So I switched to my Revenant and I was able to stay throwing the same line and strike out the rest of the game ending in 231. My current avg is about 180. Slowly getting it up to the 200s. Trying to find a USBC certified league for the summer.

Spares are a big one but for me it’s my mind cause it races and thinks too much. When I have a string going it’s already thinking about the future. I have to tell myself to forget it and just focus on repeating your shot. Also once I throw a bad shot or I felt like it was the right move and didn’t do anything, it starts to race again with a ball change after one shot. Give it a few adjustments before changing is what I’ve told myself

Unfortunately I was never really taught in depth about bowling, even having bowled around 10 years in my youth. I just recently picked it back up. But that being said, I think my highest game was a 230 back in league and I was pretty young, I think I stopped around 22-25 years of age if not earlier. I casually bowled after kind of getting tired of league because I was bowling with people older than me, didn't much enjoy it after my teen years in league. Anyway I went back on a weekend with all of the disco lights, and not having bowled for awhile and bowled a 254. My highest yet, and having not bowled in over a decade if not longer, I went for a few days and got back up to 235, only took me a few days of casual bowling. Now I'm looking more in depth in regards to the mechanics of bowling, lane conditions, accessories and overall just improve my game. I may be looking at getting a high end bowling ball although I'm not sure if it's appropriate for a house shot. But what the hey, I'll adapt with the ball if need be. Thinking attention star, phase 2, magic gem. In that ball park.

Mental game is big…this past tuesday in league i was going for my first 800…had the front 6 in the 3rd game but left the washout in the 7th….over thought it and threw the ball too slow and chopped the 2-4 and left the 5-8. Struck the 8-9 frames and then went XX9 in the tenth to finish with a 264. Bowled a 791. If only i stuck to the process in the 7th frame i wouldve had my 1st 800. SMH😢

Not enough info. For house or sport pattern? Heavy or light oil? Do you prefer inside line, track, or outside line? Heck, even with all that info, nobody’s going to be able to give you a solid answer. You should try watching some review videos to see if you like how specific balls roll. Also, 2-handed vs 1-handed isn’t relevant here; just consider your rev rate and ball rotation.

I have my 300 and i have my 800, 814 to be exact. my mental game is not there. I'm only 31 surely i should still be avging 220 but i cant get around that corner. i can strike but sometimes that 10 gets in my way. if i can consistently make my right side spares i can get there. but i avg 195 now and i only bowl 3 games a week. when i was bowling 5 days a week I could Avg 215-220 easy. some nights I'm on and some night my mind wanders. so it's just pretty much all on my mental game.

🤨 Not over thinking things.. Watching PBA, there is a mountain of over thinking. Great advice ... I don't know how many times I've had a double, Turkey...then it all went to Krap

I wish bowling centers told you the highest possible score after every shot like on TV it would help you focus on the highest possibility not a number like 200 or 225

I feel like when I was younger an would string 6-7 in a row, I’d subconsciously mess up the next frame to get the pressure relief. Didn’t have the mindset to handle it. Talking like when I was 15-16 years old

I have bowled many games above 250 in my 30s and now I have a 190 avg but leave so many ten pins bowling above 225 is rare, WTF, it seems all my balls go long regardless of cover stock!

Anything can happen in bowling. I bowled 723 one series in league with a 290 and 289 in my last 2 games. Do the math to see what my first one was. Just gotta stay consistent and be true to yourself
