id say sweetener is a grower, it always has been for nearly everyone it's kinda the popular conclusion. i can understand the criticisms for some of the production, and imagining what could've been but the place that ariana was in after manchester makes sense for the sound

this album is why some ariana fans have a grudge against pharrell 😭 majority of the songs that you guys preferred were made with her usual team! i personally love it but i can see why other people don't- i listen to the live versions of these songs more often than i listen to the whole album bc her voice really does carry a lot of them and even more so when she toured them and switched up a lot of the arrangements

Also i'd recommend listening to some of the songs from k bye for now which is her sweetener/thank u, next tour live vocal album. fr. like what's the point of reacting to the whole album if they will just proceed and listen to the songs under dolby atmos. I honestly like SOME of the funky beats. It matches with how her life was all over the place when making this album. It's not her best album but I think understanding she was recovering from a terrorist attack where she last 20 sum of her fans and then getting out of a relationship with a current drug addict (RIP Mac 🙏) helps you view this album better and prepares you for thank you next which I view as one of her best albums.
