And part of what helped was Han was not shy about his feelings. By this point Leia knows that Han loves her, but this was the moment she realized she loves him too.

It's interesting how differently women tend to react to that line. Some say "what a douche", while others think the swag is uber sexy. Matter of taste I guess.
@Osprey8504 ай бұрын
I've always wondered why Leia didn't seem caught off guard by the line, but the fact that it was improvised might explain it. Perhaps Fisher actually was caught off guard and smiled or even laughed and the editors decided not to use that and, instead, to use a take of her reacting to Han saying the line as it was scripted.

I think "I know" was more fitting for Han's character. "I love you too" would have been too predictable. And I think that phrase can be overused.

Regarding the cave scene, when Luke asks "What will I find?", Yoda answers "Only what you take with you". The cave is strong in the Dark Side of the Force and basically it shows Luke a few things: 1. It shows him what obsesses him (his hatred for Darth Vader) 2. After he decapitates Vader in his vision, it shows him that lashing out in hatred and anger will turn him into what he hates the most and cause him to fall to the Dark Side 3. It foreshadows the relation between Luke and Vader. Regarding Vader's trap for Luke on Bespin, not enough credit is given to Vader's understanding and mastery of the Force. When Luke had a vision of Han and Leia's misfortunes, it was the future he saw. Vader purposefully made Han and Leia suffer, going as far as torturing Han to use them as bait to draw Luke to him. This means he knew, as a Force user, that due to their relationship, their suffering would cause a ripple in the Force that Luke would sense in the past and come to rescue them. Hence Obi Wan saying "It is you and your abilities the Emperor wants. That's why your friends are made to suffer." Vader had the mindfulness and understanding of how the Force works to plan actions that would have consequences in the past and shape the present to his designs. This is also why Obi-Wan and Yoda told him not to go (not play into Vader's hand), and the story proves them right : As you pointed out, Luke does not help Leia and the gang at all. They escape all on their own. On the contrary, they end up having to rescue *him*.
@CDRhammondАй бұрын
Not exactly but close the cave brings out your greatest fear for Luke that was Vader and for Yoda it was his dark side self. When the helmet explodes showing Luke's head inside it was telling Luke two things one you got right in that if Luke was not careful he would follow Anakin's path and become the next Sith lord. The other was the cave telling Luke that he was absolutely in no way ready to actually face Vader who was a master of all 7 forms in a real dual which as we see did come true. The one and only reason Luke survived was because Vader is not as dangerous as the Sith that came before him. The other Sith they would not have cared if their opponent was family or not and killed Luke on the spot right then and there. Obi-Wan told Luke not to go because he did not want the lie he told to him in ANH coming out. Both him and Yoda were expecting Luke to kill Vader the first time they faced off.
@cyberjarlАй бұрын
@@CDRhammond I won't comment on your interpretation of the cave scene, but the reason why Luke survived is not because Vader is any less dangerous than other Sith, it's because Vader did *not* want to kill him, he wanted to recruit him. As for his lie not coming out being the only reason Obi-Wan and Yoda told them not to go after Vader, that might be part of the reason, sure, but the reason that mattered is because they knew he wasn't ready to face him.
@GeoffreyToday4 ай бұрын
The thing about the "I know" line to keep in mind is that Han Solo has spent the whole movie being very upfront about his feelings for Leia. He's not been the one pretending not to have feelings. He's been trying to get Leia to finally admit to her feelings. When she finally does, it's coming at the very last moment they may ever have together. So instead of telling Leia what she already knows, that he loves her back, he tells her "I know". He's telling Leia that she doesn't have to feel badly that she only admitted her feelings right at the end, that he's known she loved him the whole time, that she doesn't need to feel remorse over Han potentially not knowing how she felt this whole time. That's what makes "I know" so beautiful, because it's absolving Leia of any guilt she might feel over having not been honest with Han about her feelings for so long.

@@Etticos. Correct he didn’t know that. It means “father” in Dutch. Originally the line was to be “No, Obi-Wan killed your father.” In fact they even left that in the script and told all of the actors including David Prowse who played Vader’s body and spoke the lines to the actors to say that. The only people who knew of the twist was Lucas himself, James Earl Jones who had to speak the line for the voiceover and Lawrence Kasdan the lead writer and confidant of George. Therefore it was secret to everyone and couldn’t be spoiled. Hamill, Ford, Fisher and the others were all mind blown by it on first screening. In fact Harrison Ford even turned to George and said something along the lines of “You didn’t even tell me you sly son of a.”

Han said “I know” because Leia’s confession of “I love you” was to let Han know, before it was too late. His response was to let her know that he felt it all along, which in turn would alleviate any feelings of guilt she might have from being too hard on him in the past. Han is smart.
@chrismignemi61954 ай бұрын
That’s part of it. The in-movie explanation refers back to their argument in the south passage on Hoth. Han says “you want me to stay because of the way you feel about me.” and Leia plays it off by saying “yes you’re a great help to us, you’re a natural leader” and then Han says “No. that’s not it.” … when he says “I know”, it’s because he ALWAYS knew even though she wouldn’t admit it earlier. Absolutely no visible scars. It's hard to imagine he got the stars during A New Hope, they were too faint to see in Corvette Summer, but then came back with a vengeance for Empire.

Even before the Wampa scene, you knew she was going to say she liked being tied up and eaten. But this is a digital re-master and not the original theatrical release version. ILM made huge improvements to their special effects in this movie from the previous one, but many of the effects were added many years later.

Rewatch the asteroid field chase and pay close attention to the bottom left of the screen when the first TIE fighter is destroyed. If you pause it at just the right moment, you'll actually see the pilot be ejected off into space.

I showed my almost 3 year old niece this yesterday and she said the only scary part was the Emperor. When I told her Obi was a ghost in this one she put her hands up wiggled her fingers and went, oooooohhhhhhhh. She's watched A New Hope everyday for a week so I was happy we moved to the next movie.

Very good channel, wonderful hour! Remember seeing all of these in the theater. Was 12 years old first time seeing IV, parents would drop us off at the theater and would do 3 showings in one day. Thanks for the first watched emotions!

In addition to Leia I think Ellen Ripley from Alien is one of the coolest female leads in the last 50 years. Highly intelligent, analytical and resourceful. Can't recommend Alien and Aliens enough.

1. Han to Chewy, "Laugh it ups fuzzball"🤣 2. The scene in the cave is Luke seeing into his future if he were to turn to the dark side. 3. Do them in the original release. They were put that way for a reason. Jumping ahead ruins it for you and us. 4. IRL Ford and Fisher were having an affair. She was very young and he was much older and married. She put it in her biography before she died. She got an ok from him to put it in there.😇 5. Hans', "I know" was ad lib because Ford thought it was what Solo would say, and required a new script to be written in the next movie. 6. Ford wanted Solo to die. 7. You will learn more about the emperor and Darth Vader in episodes I, II and III. 8. The next one wraps everything up and IMVHO is the best of the original VI Lucas episodes.

@nataschasummers It may have been mentioned by someone else in the comments but just in case,.....the "fate, destiny" thing from _'Tangled'_ is actually that movie paying homage to _'Ghostbusters'_ and something Venkman says to Stantz. I will say no more to avoid spoilers in case you haven't seen that wonderful film.

I am under an impression that the shots of the Wampa (the Abomniable Yeti) eating and standing up are newer filming scenes for the later edits. I believe they instead did scale sets to make the person in the costume look 11 feet tall instead of struggle with stilts again. As for Han using the Taun-Taun to keep Luke warm, I am given to understand somethign like that was in "The Revenant" (Matt Damon).

I don't think Grogu would have Yoda's syntax, because Grogu is living with Din. Plus Yoda does it deliberately, to make people think harder on what he says. Yaddle, another of their species who was seen in "The Phantom Menace", did not speak in the syntax Yoda does. Backwards diction, Yoda does speak.

Emperor - You probably did see him in the newer stuff. Having looked back at my comment string in the previous video, you did mention seeing the newer parts of the franchise, like "The Mandalorian", but I am guessing you have seen some of the Sequel Trilogy. I will reiterate one of the comments I made in the previous video - Darth Vader is "The Dragon", and while I said he was Dragon to Tarkin in ANH, he is more-so Dragon to the Emperor.

Correct. The shots of the Wampa eating as well as walking up to Luke were all added for the 1997 Special Editions. Originally in the cave, you were just shown shadows and some short shots of the Wampa walking, with most of his body covered by features of the cave. Other than the initial attack on the tauntaun, you don't see the Wampa's face until after Luke cuts himself down..

"I know" is one of the best lines in cinema history

One of the best movies ever made! I don't re-watch most of the Star Wars movies regularly, except for this one, because it's so damned entertaining, from start to finish. The battle of Hoth, the Millenium Falcon in the asteroids, Luke's training with Yoda, it's all so legendary. This is basically a perfect movie, IMHO. Your reaction to the "I know" line was priceless!!! One of the most iconic moments in movie history. From what I understand, the original script just had Han say, "I love you too". But apparently the director thought that was kind of boring and cliche, so he let Harrison Ford improvise. And that's how we got "I know". 🤣Definitely kind of a dickish thing for Han Solo to say to Leia, but it does fit his character perfectly! :P I love your janky cosplay! Perfectly designed as a bit of last-minute fan-love for these movies!!! The calculator strapped to your abdomen is great! Darth Vader has a bunch of random silly buttons on his chest, so why not you?? 😂 Also, your accent is constantly wonderful and adorable! I think I'm just going to start saying "smashing" in my daily vocabulary because it's so cute, but really does convey the exuberance of how you feel!!! 😉

27:04 That was a test to see if Luke were patient enough and ready to start the training. Normally Force sensitive people starts their training as a Padawan at 8, 9 years old.

It was interesting how George foreshadowed what was coming in the story with the scene in the "evil" cave. When Luke saw his head in Darth Vader's helmet, I figured out much of the rest of the story. A little insight on the movies and fans having to wait 3 years between movies, remember there was NO Internet back then! The only way anybody could get "ON LINE" was through a modem hooked to a phone line that you used to call a Bulletin Board that had been setup and run by somebody. We had three years to leave messages, theorize and argue each plot point before the next movie got into theaters.
