That one has a front mount intercooler. The stock location intercooler was behind the radiator and attached to the front of the engine. The scanmaster isn't playback only. It streams all data from the aldl port in real time. Up to 20fps with the proper chip. All in all, clean car. Spid label is a must when buying one of these cars.

A few corrections: (1:12) The '3.8SFI TURBO' emblem came out on the 1984 models. (4:51) Those are NOT Lear Sieglar seats, but production GM bucket seats. (5:17) The 8.5" rear was not unique to the turbo Regal; The 84 Hurst Olds and 85, 86, & 87 Olds 442 came with the 8.5 rear", but was with the 3.73 gears. (6:00) That is the Service Parts Identification label, used to identify components, or groups of equipment used.

That is not correct, the 1984 Hurst Olds and the 1985-1987 Olds 442 had the 8.5" rear end. That is not a warranty sticker, it's called a "SPID" label which stands for "Service Parts Identification" and was used by the line workers to make sure they installed the right parts and for parts personnel to look up the right replacement parts. With that, we have the VIN and we win: 1G4 for US made Buick, GJ47 for Regal, 11 for two door, 7 for 3.8L V6 with SFI turbo charged engine with intercooler, aka RPO code "LC2" aka "Silent But Deadly", 3 is a check digit, H for the 1987 model year, P for Pontiac, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Pontiac, MI plant was the "home" plant for Pontiac Motor Division and assembled the last of the G body cars as well as the Fieros and closed in mid-1988. When you get the SPID, we're glad you did: FFL for Flint, MI body plant, PON for Pontiac, MI assembly, C60 for AC, MW9 for THM200-4R four speed automatic overdrive transmission, LC2 for 3.8L SFI V6 with intercooler and turbo, aka "Silent But Deadly", C49 for rear window defogger, N33 for tilt wheel, GU6 for 3.42 rear end ratio, G87 for 8.5" rear axle, K34 for cruise control, WE2 for Grand National, NA5 for standard Federal emissions, AR9 for reclining front bucket seats, 19U for Jet Black exterior paint, G80 for limited slip rear differential, CD4 for delay wipers, VK3 for front license plate bracket, 82I and 82C for Medium Dark Gray interior trim appointments, 829 for Medium Dark Gray seat belts, among other codes. As noted, these cars were wicked back in the day and plenty of competitors saw the tail lights of these and were surprised as the "air" passed them by. GM wanted to go out with a "bang" with the G body and they sure had a hit with this one. There's a documentary on You Tube called "Black Air" that details all about these cars. The Grand National was as noted a "Gentleman's Hot Rod" and ate its' competitors alive and left them standing still and did so in comfort and style. They are among my favorite GM cars---and more so because they have true divisional (not corporate) power. A Buick with a Buick engine, just as it should be.

@@gteefxr3094 I just might. Stranger things have happened. My motto would be, "When we get the VIN we win. When we get the tag, we can brag. When you get the SPID, I'm glad you did". The details are in the numbers, 100% of the time, every time.

I have owned a Buick Regal T turbo for 29 years .I know what certain SPID numbers meant. Thanks for educating me on some I didn't know. I am going to compare the numbers to my SPID sticker .
@googleusergp2 жыл бұрын
@@ZeeCayPeeA Some are for internal parts ID (such as the spring codes). Others aren't really "options", but just so much for the line workers to pull the right parts. Others are optional equipment over standard equipment. At the end of the day, it was for the line workers to pull and install the right parts and later on for dealership personnel to provide the right parts if there were several choices of parts for a given application. For instance, if you see "A31" on the SPID, you know the car has power windows and certain parts (motor, regulator, etc.) are associated with that. Newer applications (approximately 1992 and newer, depending) can be run through GM's parts computer at the dealership and a print out can be made of all of the RPO codes and what they mean. On something like a 1987 Regal, it's too old, the data isn't in the computer. However the parts and illustration catalog is. It's catalog #44W and it covers 1982-1990 Buick models (most of them, with some exceptions). GM goes back to 1976 for passenger cars, 1973 for light trucks and 1979 for medium/heavy trucks in the electronic parts catalog system.

I'm not sure it was ever beautiful, but once it's sinister performance reputation backed up the Indy Pacecar Turbo avatar used from the first 4.1 liter Regals of 1980, it gained Massive Presence 🥝✔️
@googleusergp2 жыл бұрын
The 4.1 V6 was not turbo charged, only the 3.8L (231 CID) was. The first turbo Buick V6 equipped vehicles were introduced for the 1978 model year. Pontiac followed in 1980-1981 with the Turbo 301, the first American turbocharged V8 for the 1980s.

@@googleusergp👍 The Indy Pace replicas were 1982, and used the turbo avatar, even if not turboed, they were the beginning of the Gran National, not just the Turbo 3.8 2 or 3 years earlier.. 1981 was a great year also. Love your comments. I really liked the two Regal pace cars for 81. The GN built on the core work done back then.

@@deanstevenson6527 The Turbo Regal of 1978 is I believe what started the "Grand National" trend within Buick. That and the need for smaller engines due to the 2nd fuel crisis of 1979 accelerated it. True, the first "Grand National" was actually a few 1982 Regals and they had 4.1 V6 engines in them, and some had 3.8 turbos in them. They are overlooked as they are slow and pesky with the early Computer Command Control system. By 1984, they got fuel injection for the turbo 3.8 in these cars.

I hate when someone that tries to make car fast throws on crap and sells high with hopes thats not very educated or no experience with these cars buys them to find out they been mislead with false information and its just cosmetic to look fast, but slower then it was factory. The turbo, plug wires, downpipe, intercooler and air filter are I would bet the only so called performance "upgrades" this car has. Wrong combination without the supporting parts to make it all work correctly is worse. First off that intercooler better be very efficient to cool off the 200+ deg heat being sucked into that filter knock sensors probably demand for pulled timing. Next to help drop under hood Temps wrap the downpipe and hot side of turbo. Guess could get away with stock maf since the stock cam is still in place because normally roller rockers get installed with more aggressive cam. I know not necessarily with cam swap so it could have beefier cam,but will need better valve springs which will fit under stock mounted valve covers but for sure roller rockers won't fit under them. The vacuum distribution block on throttle body looks to be original that always gets hot and over time becomes brittle and/or cracks and breaks. See that it's too tight by way it bows inward distorting shape and starts leaking. If for some reason it's not leaking it will when the vacuum lines blow off if not secured with as little as a zip tie not zip tied like the line wrapped around trans dip stick, but used as clamping the rubber lines to metal lines. With just those few things to go off of I would assume that these are still stock. Stock torque converter, stock headers and exhaust, stock chip, stock transmission, stock internals, 87 octane still used and every other part is stock. That's just my opinion I may be wrong, but that's based off what I see that is there and how it's done to come to that decision. Other than that not bad car would been better left stock especially if the miles are correct.

I would suggest you read the description on the ad before you start to make assumptions.. I’ll leave it at that… lol. Trans brake car with over 50k in upgrades.
@owood5243 Жыл бұрын
@@highoctaneclassics3969 Just because it has trans brake means nothing or how much money spent if supporting parts aren't there and that is seen by lack of things that would need to be there to support claim. Im not some fly by night troll acting like i know these cars and bashing people its clear for sure that who ever did it knew very little what to do and build off that with supporting mods. Before I even committed I looked at vin sequence number to see if it's close to being made around the time mine was. Google the vin found it for sale I've seen the pictures showing very tiny stock exhaust stock suspension stock brakes stock everything other than stuff i mentioned before. So why on earth not upgrade suspension if it's so powerful and needing a Trans brake to launch maybe upgrading Brake system first makes more sense. More clamping force build more brake boost with propper converter. After that if no other way to hold car before launch then go with whatever needed to build on previous mods to achieve desired outcome. I unfortunately don't have ability to see inside solid objects, but for what I can see and don't see and how its done reminds me of the beginning stages of a teenager with nonsense stuff on their first car and getting better as time goes. My opinion is from personal experience with these cars the different approaches I did and experience from respectd builders.

@@highoctaneclassics3969 Also how was the trans brake applied don't see easy access let alone any access to engage it. I understand people needing money, but who sells car for less than just the costs of mods on a car that would sell high with zero mods. I know you don't get what you put in, but that's like the car you obtained it for free and turned around gave the car to me plus an additional 6k in cash for the he'll of it. 50k in parts what exactly cost 50k. If I sell you a turbo for 30k and 4 tires for 20k doesn't mean 50k in parts/mods or whatever just means idiot got played.
