Interesting route to Lints Tor... Being lower than surrounding ground can be of considerable benefit - I've been in the clear several times when surrounding tors are hidden by low cloud and there's also a bit more wind protection available due to lower height and in lee of the stack. You'd be surprised how many camp there, especially at the foot by Sandy Ford. William Crossing described the view from Lints as finest on the moor - I agree. BTW it's nice to see a KZbin video of Dartmoor by someone smart enough not to light a fire there - cheers.

It was an interesting and as you can probably tell unplanned route 😂 It is a great spot with gorgeous views, so I am not surprised that you say people do camp there, we were lucky enough to not see anyone that way. Whilst further towards Fernworthy forest there were people and as we would find out the next evening, tents all over the place. I (Ben) have been camping on Dartmoor for 15 years or more and I never light fires on the moorland, I do have a fire in Fernworthy from time to time but generally not in dry times and always carefully. Agree it is annoying to find fire pits/remains all over the moorland and often only a few feet from paths. Massive thanks for watching and commenting. Hopefully you come back for more. Cheers Ben & Megs.

@@OutdoorIntrigue Ben it's good you're not a moorland firelighter, but a disappointment that a regular visitor still lights a fire at Fernworthy, location of the biggest forest fire I ever saw. That isn't going to have me say that lighting even "careful" fires there is OK! It's close to 50 years since my own first Dartmoor wild-camp.

@@richardbarrett3809 You are an old school Dartmoor man, 50 years! Fair point on the fires. I am very conscientious about fires, I was born in South Africa and can remember vividly the horror of bush fires. That being said I do still enjoy a fire, I try to only ever light them in areas it is allowed (mainly Scotland) and to be super careful, particularly with peat etc. I think the last time I lit a fire in Fernworthy everything was so wet that even getting the fire going was almost impossible. Feedback taken though.

Great video. When I was a boy, about 50 years ago, we used to holiday in that area every year (at Belstone). We used to walk extensively around there. We always used to drink freely from the streams without treating or filtering the water. We also used to eat the bilberrys that we picked as we walked. I am an occasional camper (usually with my motorbike). However I am shocked at the money you guys spend on kit and food. My tent was about 30 euros in a sale. My bedroll is just an exercise mat, and I think that is luxury. I used to just put my sleeping bag on the floor of the tent. I`m looking forward to your part 2 video. Well done guys!

Thank you! Wow, a real veteran of Dartmoor - hopefully it’s not changed too much over the years? Sounds like a wonderful way to spend childhood summers, free and in touch with nature. 99% of the time the water is fine to drink, but a few times hiking out in the North Moors especially, we’ve come across dead livestock in streams and wouldn’t want to risk ruining a trip. Our gear is a little pricey for sure, but we do a lot of mountaineering in winter, so whilst it’s overkill for Dartmoor in the summer, it’s needed in the Scottish Highlands in the snow! ☺️ glad you enjoyed the video, part two should be out soon 🙏🏼

Really refreshing to find a channel that doesn't try and play music throughout the whole video and instead actually communicates with the viewers, too may concentrate on being movie stars rather than actually show the hike, gear and Wild camp, locations etc., Just subbed will check your other vids out. Well done. Atb Bill.

Thanks both another great video and great gear reviews. I just bought the Evernew Hydration bag which you mentioned in your last video I’ve not used it yet but looks a great piece of kit so thanks for that 👍 looking forward to your next vid. All the best guys. Al

Thanks for watching Al! We plan on getting a video out on wild camping essentials soon, so hopefully that will be useful too! We personally really like the Evernew bags, they feel so tough compared to the others on the market. Let us know how you get on when you get a chance to put them through their paces ☺️

No real agenda guys. Yes, I agree just be - the is-ness of the outdoor adventure. I have to say I have drank out of streams like that without filtering for years but am inclined to filter lower down. A cool filter system though - got you to the waste lands and them remote ranges. Alongside awesome topography and Megans Bla Band (I Like them) you had a real good one. Rested them bodies and your minds. Aaah it's what we live for. Take care all. Mark

So nice sometimes to have no route or plan isn’t it? Just to let your feet take you somewhere exciting! 90% of the time it’s usually fine, but it’s the one time it isn’t that it’ll be a painful experience. Sod’s law it’s the one time we don’t filter the water that we get sick 😂 it was a brilliant trip, got very sunburnt, covered some good ground and slept without the tent on night two - it really is what we live for! We have a lot of catching up on your adventures too, looking forward to it over the weekend ☺️

hey that sounds great. I did the same thing on a hike last week got my head sun burnt and slept under the moon. I had good some good council pop with me though. Peace both!

Brilliant. I find your videos so informative and well put together. I've been watching them now for a week or so and during that time I've been thinking of getting a new tent. The Terra Nova Southern Cross 2 is what I'm pulling towards, an here I see you're using one.. What you think of it? How did it fair in the warm conditions you camped in in this video? Thank you, an keep the video's coming 👍😊👏

Kieran Crawford Thanks for watching Kieran! Really glad you are enjoying the content 😊 On the tent, overall the Southern Cross 2 is really a very good tent, the space is very livable for 2 and it’s very capable weather wise. It’s a good option for a proper 4 season tent at just over 2 KG. Condensation wise it does well and suffers less than a lot of other tents I have used, but like any tent in existence it’s not condensation proof by any means. The one down side is Terra Novas customer service isn’t great tbh. Overall I would recommend it at its price point. Other good 4 season options would be the Hilleberg Nallo 2 and the Tarptent Stratospire Li or MLD duomid XL or HMG ultramid. Those last ones are a slight pain as largely need to be imported. Anyway before I go on to much.. 😂😊 Thanks again for watching, let me know what tent you go for.

@@OutdoorIntrigue thank you for prompt reply.. Och my heads turned with tents. Its either the Southern Cross 2 or Hilleberg Solou.. It'll only be me in it to be fair.. The SC2 is more roomy than Hilleberg Solou, but the Soulo probably better tent.. I'm gonna have to toss a coin on this I think 😊Thank you again 👍👍

Kieran Crawford choices, choices! There is also a Southern Cross 1, the Hillebergs are hands down better tents though and their warranty is top notch.

@@OutdoorIntrigue you're an informative guy with plenty knowledge and experience. I love your videos and I think for the sake of a few 100 quid I'm gonna go for the Hilleberg Solou and be done with it. It'll do, as they say here in Northern Ireland "rightly" 😊Thanks again 😊

Hey, new subscriber here! Love your content. Few questions for you; 1) do you worry when you leave your car in quite remote locations? I consistently worry that someone will break into my car when I’m on a few day hike. 2) I live close to you guys in Crawley, do you have any ideas for wild camping spots around West Sussex? Thanks
@OutdoorIntrigue3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Always happy to have a new subscriber, welcome! With leaving your car there can be a slight worry, it depends on the area as a whole. To be honest though your car is much more likely to be broken into or stolen in a city or town. We have never had an issue, just don’t leave anything on display. When we used to wild camp in Sussex we often used Friston forest, it’s really lovely! Lots of deer and badgers 🦡 to. We have moved up to the Scottish highlands now though as you may see from newer videos 😊. Take care and hope to see you in the comments again!

Cheers pal! Glad you liked the videos so far ☺️ Bla Bland are awesome, hard to get a hold of outside of the internet though. Summit to Eat are also pretty good, not a huge vegetarian range though, but always a good option if you need to grab a couple in a hurry!

Stunning weather, Love Dartmoor, Before I did the KZbin thing I wild camped with my brother in law & Friend further south, around Sharrah Pools and other places along the river dart, If your also into your swimming this is a must place to go in the summer. The pools themselves can be busy, but venture 20 minutes up the river and you will be greeted with an isolated pocket of wild swimmers heaven! Let me know if you want me to send you the link of where we swam! Great vid though!
