"The Hungry Ghost: A Biopsychosocial Perspective on Addiction, from Heroin to Workaholism"
Clinician and author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts
Addiction is epidemic in our society, but we react by regarding it as a crime rather than a disease, even less so as a disease of dislocation and spiritual emptiness. Gabor Maté, a Hungarian-born physician who treats addicts in the Vancouver area, advocates a radical and compassionate approach to addiction and treatment. Boldly challenging the efficacy of the War on Drugs, he proposes more holistic alternatives that address larger societal problems and "high status" addictions, such as wealth, power, sex.

I do not think there is anything I could say about this wonderful thirst of knowledge that everyone hads not already spoke to. He is definitely knowledgeable in the science of trauma and addiction. I wish he would spend more time in the United States and come to Milwaukee where we have the need to receive his infamous wisdom.

When mom is gone away 14 hours a day at her 2 jobs. Native North American Indians carried their babies everywhere on their backs. Message to future mom's should be "If you cannot take your infant to toddler with you to work, quit your job and beg on a corner, instead, 'for the sake of your child'; who doesn't want anyone but you."

Yeah. Begging on the corner she might make a whole dollar during the course of a day. Great advice. The feeling of humiliation is very helpful. I'm the least materialistic and financially minded person you'll ever encounter, and I think what you said is just absolutely stupid. The native Americans may have profound spiritual distortions, but they're rather naive and simple compared to the Europeans. This is actually because of their native star, in another solar system, is very old and has difficulty providing energy necessary to evolve through the third density. _Deneb._

His views are personalized, and portraits an eccentric way of looking at addiction... that vulnerable person who uses substances or behaviours for pleasure or relief may become addicted, and may also disregard the long-term consequences,; that person is damaged, an not the "unharmed person that emerges in recovery"

Not easy to afford an international speaker, but if Governments are sincere to amend their policies...., I am sure he will even lecture for free. He surely has no need for financial incentives, but if he can contribute to a better world and understanding whilst leaving a legacy, I am 100% plus confident he will even pay to lecture as long as people will listen with real interest and with the intention of implementing his decades of observation.

Sin leads to a habit which becomes an addiction which enslaves in the end. Addiction is usually a form of narcissism which hurts themselves and everyone else around them! All drugs should be decriminalized completely in order to eliminate all violence in the drug markets.
