Wow, what great work! As someone who grew up in San Fernando valley stuck on black tar in the 90s, this resonates and deeply saddens me for everyone who suffers in addiction. I love his passion and insight. Beautiful!

I’m from scioto county, ohio where Portsmouth is located…… try walking through the newly redone mound park and count the dirty needles. This park is directly across from a headstart school with several students who have little chance to use their own park, their neighborhood park. IT IS FAR FROM OVER!!!

Interesting read. To bad Purdue & Dr’s we’re reckless with over prescribing oxy. Sadly my Dad died in horrible pain from terminal cancer. It was difficult to get a Dr to treat this for fear of over-prescribing pain meds in 2011. . Hospice was the only group that helped with morphine( didn’t take the pain away/ you just don’t care as much after taking it), but sad that it would have been easier then to get street drugs to help ease his pain rather than a legitimate prescription.

It's bad in more ways than one... so many people now have to live with chronic pain because of over prescribing. I can't tell you how many people I've seen die because of drugs mostly prescribed. But seeing someone suffer from chronic pain is also bad. My closest friend has a masters in epidemiology, and because she is young she can't get help even after having complications from a back surgery. The ones who did this finally need to pay.

"Will your next book be pain is not treated any more" - why would it be that? If you have a 3 day need, you get a 3 day supply of something non-addictive. That's about it. You don't need a month worth of painkillers.
