Shows that Eric wasn't just a brilliant player before the Dartitis problem, he also had a winning character and determination. Prime Bristow of 1983-85 would have won against Priestley and Taylor.

Indeed & Taylor, Priestley, & Part joined eventually by Barnaveld would be the only 4 men to win both the pdc & bdo world titles after the split in 1994. They were also the only 4 winners between the years 1994 - 2010 of the pdc with Taylor winning a remarkable 13 titles. Then another swing change as Lewis Anderson, Van gerwen, & Wright etc finally stepped up to the plate!!

It is a while ago now, but it felt like Priestly took darts up a level in 1991. I seem to remember him hitting 180 after 180.

A Lamb to the slaughter was Bristow . He was made mincemeat of that particular evening. His face at the end told it all. SIX NIL for crying out loud. This was a whipping and a half.

No disrespect, but the current crop of players would literally wipe the floor with Bristow....even in his prime. I'm 64 and remember the first world championships at Jollees before even lakeside. The standard is way higher nowadays. I hear the excuse about dart board wires etc, I don't believe that makes much difference, the players are better nowadays in accuracy and board management IMO. Prime Bristow would just be a pretty average player if he was around today. Controversial opinion but sorry it's true.

Bristow is so overrated, even at his peak in the 80s he never hit a televised 9 darter and averages were not a patch on Phil Taylor’s or most of the top 20 players today

You can't compare averages directly from a 80s board to a modern board. The target size is bigger now a days due to wire sizes.

@ Phil Taylor was playing when the old type of board with thicker wire and he was still hitting 180s for fun and dominating opponents. Bristow was not even close to Taylor’s level of darts..🎯

@@judex3226 Bristow's prime was mid 80s. Taylor did not start smashing in masive ton plus averages until the mid to late 90s. No doubt the boards improved a bit in that time. Anyway I am not arguing Bristow was better than Taylor, Taylor is the best ever for me. Just that Bristow was better than you are making out. The high 90s averages he hit on those boards would easily be ton plus today.

@ John Lowe hit the first televised 9 dart check out in 1984. Paul Lim hit the first televised 9 darter at the world championships. Bristow never hit a 9 darter during any tournament televised or untelevised. In fact I’m sure Bristow never hit a 9 darter in his entire career not even during his peak. Bristow was in my opinion very overrated 🎯
