I just remembered a tip which helps me, I think it was from a Bobby George interview I saw. When you're practicing alone, there's a tendency to get back to the oche immediately after you retrieve your darts, as you have no opponent. He recommended creating a short pause before throwing, by e.g. walking to the back wall and tapping your foot on the skirting board, to replicate what happens in a match as you wait for your opponent to throw. If I *don't* do this, I pretty quickly lose focus (not to mention getting physically dizzy from turning round and round in quick succession!).
@DartsClass4 жыл бұрын
Yes that's a great bit of advice. Replicating the rhythm and pace of a real match is very important! 👍🎯

Much of this is what I point out in almost every sport or similar aspect in life.... and when I was in the Military we call it "Train as you would fight". Simply put, people train other than how they would actually be when doing the activity. If you train for football and most of the time you are not wearing your gear and pads, when you actually PLAY, it will not be the same. If you go to the range for firearm training, and you always dress in paramilitary gear but then in the real world you would probably not be able to have that gear on when you need to use those skills, it will not be the same in practical application. And another example is training in the gym for self defense. If you train there wearing gym clothing, when you actually try to do the things you have trained for but wearing your normal "street clothes" it will not be the same and in many cases you will find some serious issues with it. So again, "train as you would fight"..... with darts, billiards, football, soccer, self defense, and so on, your body learns muscle memory and how things are supposed to feel, and how to move in certain clothing, etc. And yes, changing your gear does not make you better by default and could make you worse because you are not learning that gear. As long as you have adequate gear, learn to use THAT gear. Yes, better gear can improve your outcome, but you will see the biggest difference between crap gear and good gear than you will from good gear to amazing gear. Cheers!

The 5 Tips: 1. Wear the same clothes you'd wear for a competitive match - particularly shoes 2. Practise with specific goals 3. Have a nice clear playing area - minimise distractions in your peripheries 4. Don't change your equipment too often 5. Leave your practice on a good score Solid video, mate!

The last tip is great. I made it a rule to end my basketball practices by not walking away until I made a “swish”. I now won’t walk away from dart practice until I hit 3 consecutive 20’s

Well said mate! Especially point 4. It doesn’t matter what you use most importantly get used to your setup and stick to it👌
@justdonotask.3 жыл бұрын
Very very well said... Whatever you have said here is 100% correct, it's been 60 days into darts for me and whill I was making these mistakes before, I soon realised that I shouldn't and chose to stop them. Saw this video today and it was like looking into a mirror and I'm glad to have realised the mistakes before it was too late.

I use an app for my practice routines and 501's, and I'd say its also important to give yourself a pause between throws to simulate when an opponent would be playing. You can have a delay on the app which does that. Or just picture it if not playing against the computer. It might not make much difference but I also always breathe out before throwing rather than feel I'm full of air. And always make sure you're wearing the shoes you'd throw in, as rightly said here.
@DartsClass4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely spot on about leaving a gap before throwing to replicate the rhythm you get playing a match waiting for an opponent to take their turn 👍🎯

Great video, currently experiencing the brain scramble myself. Always changing my set up and even my grip at times mid game. At a bad point where my throw is all over the place. Going to lock all my different stems and flights away and stick to 1 size. Thanks for the eye opener 👍

I love your channel Bryn! I subscribed to it a couple of months ago shortly after I started playing darts for the first time in early November of last year. I am a soft tip electronic dart player… But one of our high-performing players in our local league suggested that practicing on the steel tip board is a good way to go. I agree with him given the smaller size of the board, a smaller size of the trebels, would help to be a little bit more accurate on the electronics… I noticed in your video you had a dartboard attached to a tripod. I did some quick googling About that but I wonder how stable the board really is on the tripod? I imagine you or perhaps some of the other commenters here might be able to provide me with! I should note that I am a full time RV living family, so I don’t have a place in the camper to have a permanent dart setup. Once again, thank you so much for your channel, your great advice, and I wanted to let you know that you have definitely helped me improve my game in a very short period of time!
@DartsClass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aaron, really appreciate it. I've actually got a video on the tripod stand where you can see how sturdy it is. Mine is one of the cheapest and does the job. If your RV living then there ideal as they're telescopic and therefore pack down to next to nothing to save you space. Give steel tip a go. It's just as addictive as soft!

Great video and lots of points I can relate to, spent basically all of last year changing my dart set up continuously. A very frustrating process which resulted in my game going backwards at a crazy rate. I ended up having to put the darts down completely for a few weeks and when I restarted committed to sticking with the one set. I'm already after 3 week back at it seeing big improvements. Chopping and changing is a very easy rut to get into but as the video says just make sure you fully commit to a new set up, it'll save you a lot of hassle in the long run!! 👍

Thanks for watching Sean! Agreed, it's so tempting to keep changing to try to unlock the magic combination... But the magic combination is a consistent setup and hard work! 🎯👍

All good tips, thanks! I think I remember that MVG interview (or maybe he says it a lot!). Can I just comment on the shoes tip - I think decent shoes have a big effect on your stability, I've noticed when I'm throwing in slippers my toes are moving about all over to keep me stable, whereas in shoes I'm much more planted because of the grip around my foot. That's got to make a significant difference, apart from the height thing.
@DartsClass4 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. I have 3 or 4 pairs of Nike airs as they just feel right to throw in

we can add that it is crucial to have a break of 10 to 15 min after every practice routine to avoid exhaustion, especially if we are new darts players. and a side note, always warm up your shoulder before playing !
@DartsClass4 жыл бұрын
Yes! A 5 minute warm up of the arm is essential. If you start cold it can knock your confidence early and make you tempted to make changes! Good tip! 👍🎯

What kind of warm up? Just throwing?
@chadylyc3 жыл бұрын
@@bog6282 not really, dont forget u use your muscles to throw, they need a warm up, my friend is a PT and helps me out in a couple of stretching for shoulder and chest and back muscles, to increase arm stability.

Very interesting points in there, thanks! I bought myself a pair of shoes that I use only indoors for practice. That would have been the shooes I'd carry to my league night if we'd still be able to have a life 😂 I try my best not to but it's hard not to chug a few just for fun when I pass by my darts 😅
