Thanks for this playthrough! Getting setup for my game today and it looks like for the unlocked power that Alyssa was using to not pay anything for seals, that power does not apply to your player board costs.

Thanks for the great teach. If I’m not mistaken I think you’ve missed 3 things (tents, depleting a stamp stack, and beagle goal penalties) Also Alyssa’s hair looks amazing

I like the fact that big combo doesnt automatically mean victory. I really liked that aspect in Trismegistus. Darwin seems like great mid/heavy euro puzzle game. Im happy i backed it. Looking forward for your 2nd play. These videos make it so much easier to teach/play the game myself. Thanks!

I haven´t played it but to me it is not elegant to be considered game of the year. It just feelsl ike they threw all the stuff they could think of in there, doesn´t feel cohesive more like a mess. Bit of a shame because I was kind of pumped for it with the theme and all but after watching it I feel like it is not even worth giving it a try which is a shame and also might be wrong.

Among the combo euro style of games, I found this to be a very very good one. I thought there was plenty of interaction for that kind of game, which is one of the reason I liked it as much. The penalty for placing your worker in the same department is quite punishing and makes for interesting decisions in the order of how you want to play your turns. The increasing price of seals, the race to discover new species, the leapfrog on the exploration tracks... there is a lot of things you need to consider from your opponents.

Great game! You should definitely do another playthrough. I think that the best way to experience the game is with the Fireland and the Falmouth Port expansions. The other extras, I don’t like that much.

Glad to hear your opinions. Had my eye on it when it was on KS, but didn’t back. Like you said, seemed like a good game, but for me just seemed missing 1 thing keeping it from being must own. I’d be glad to play, but just seems not worth buying for my collection. Thanks for thoughts and coverage. Enjoyed (as always). Side not, any update on the Golden Elephant awards you were planning?

How did Alyssa not win? She seemed to be getting everything!

That was a shocking result indeed. Littel chunks of points could come anywhere. One example, Shrey had both far right end game scoring spots on his objective board completed for a total of +17, Alyssa only had the bottom one for +8, (--9 difference). Secondly, Shrey had all his stamps out for +5, Alyssa didn't so 0 (-9 + -5 = -14, the difference in their score). Alyssa had the same number of objectives completed, she just didn't put one of them in the top right end game scoring spot; and taking one action to put out two stamps would have given her the lead in any of the groups and I'm not sure if you can go beyond the end book track, but still she could have taken either of the other two and found one point to break the tie with Shrey. I didn't rewatch the final round to suggest she take other actions - of coures she needed to do the book action to score as many as she did. Regardless a well played game.
