This is so sad. 50 years of making music and they end up in court. At their time of life, do they really need this nonsense? My favouite group of all time and the greatest in my opinion, the Beatles ended up suing each over all over the place but at least they had the excuse of being young idiots with the situation not being helped due to their founder, Mr Lennon, being brain addled with drugs. I hope Mr Hall and Mr Oates can come to an agreement but I doubt they will.

I've liked Hall & Oates since I was a teenager. I saw them live at a small venue (Music Hall) in Houston in 1977. I just watched Daryl Hall's interview with Dan Rather from May '23 and it sounded like things were ok. He spoke fondly about meeting John Oates, their relationship, writing songs together, etc., but when Dan Rather asked about what happened to all the money, Daryl's whole demeanor changed. He said he always had an adversarial relationship to the music industry and compared it to organized crime. Really sad.

The restraining order by Hall is to put a pause or stop on the sale of the publishing rights that Oates wants to do. It seems as though things didn't work during the arbitration. Oates wants to sell his share.

In the late 70's I told my friends that Hall and Oates got heir name from what they did for a living before music. They were truck drivers and they used to deliver grains so they names the group "Haulin' Oats"

I believe the reason is simple, John Oates wants to retire on his terms by selling his publishing rights. Why shouldn't he be able to? I don't blame him because he's in his 70s and $100m is good money to live the rest of his life. I'm not sure what the amount is, but I'm assuming it will be well over $100m. It all depends on their agreement/contract. I have a strong feeling Oates is not bound to a contract, otherwise why would he pursue the sale...

I really was never a Hall and Oates fan, I men they have some great ear worms, but I don’t own any of their music or anything. That said, I love Live At Daryl’s House, it’s so much fun watching & I am a longtime fan of that show on KZbin. I read in the comments that Hall is difficult to work with, but I think this is a royalties issue, Hall doesn’t want Oates playing music Hall wrote, or playing concerts under the name Hall and Oates, if Hall is not performing at said shows.
