Some (not all) of the truck drivers in the first half of this video made questionable choices. Based entirely on the footage in this video, it appeared to me that some truckies were speeding and crashing into cars. What about the near miss at 9:10 at the intersection when the car pulled out from the right? In Victoria if you are at intersections without traffic lights or signs you must give way to any vehicle entering or approaching the intersection from your right. That truckie should have backed off and given way to the car entering from the right. Some truckies are downright intimidating.

People generally don’t know how hard it is to be a truck driver. Especially if your a long haul and have to navigate the city to get to a wharf. The hardest would be with live loads cos it moves around. I used to do a lot of rural and interstate driving at all times of night. I was always glad to follow a truck cos they knew where the speed cameras were so we cruise along. Then when we passed a camera or/and safe to pass I could always rely on them to pop their right blinker on to let me know I’m good to go. I’ve had this experience heaps of times. I don’t know who any of those drivers are. But I thank them because they were keeping me and themselves safe. So now I live in city truck side I always let them in and flash my lights to let them know I’m giving way. I would rather some joker car driver lay on the horn or swear at me than see a trucker get into a pile up on the freeways. Thank you truckers!!!

In the name of myself and other truckers worldwide: thank you for being a driver with a functioning brain. Many car drivers treat us, well, like other cars. They presume we can always clearly see them, we can stop for them, etc. Many apparently think "oh wow this truck could stop fast, certainly that one can aswell" disregarding one very basic thing: you don't know our load. It could be 1.000 kg, it could be 30.000 kg. Thank you for wisely choosing to not endanger yourself and others. Oh and here's a tip for the jackasses: if you disregard the law and cause us to perform an emergency stop, then quickly run off because no collision happened, here's some news: if we get this on our handy little dashcams, you might very well end up paying for an entire damaged load anyway even though you think you "got away". I'll repeat: you don't know our loads. A colleague of mine transported a completely average looking container not so long ago, inside it was a highly sensitive, very specific scanner for pharmaceutical purposes. Pricetag (we know for it was in the load documents): 1.5 billion euro's (1.77 billion USD). So next time you cut off a truck to win a few seconds, be prepared for a lifetime of being enslaved by debt. Not to mentioon that in the current crisis: we might be transporting medical PPE, medication, ventilators, etc. You really want to mess that up right now?
@ccrpalex24565 жыл бұрын
2:06 Something similar happened to my dad when he was a rookie. Had an accident, somehow he managed to control his truck so it wasn't anything bad, but when police showed up they told him, if someone brakes in front of you, or cuts you off, you ram them, because you can only kill them may be yourself, unless it's another truck unlikely. If you swerve to dodge the car, break too hard, you will lose control, you will hit others, and you will hit or kill innocent people instead of an idiot who does something stupid to make you go off the road. Which makes sense.

Don't try to correct it by counter-steering etc. Simply accelerate and try to keep the steering wheel as straight as you can. The trailer will follow you out and stop fishtailing, trying to correct it will only increase the chances you lose control and have an accident. I work as a transport network operator in NZ and I can tell you the truckies are the ones who fix problems on the road. You have no idea how many lives I've seen them save in near misses, removing road hazards, attending to crashes they weren't even involved in to keep the traffic moving... they're absolute legends. But they remain humans, give them space, indicate, slow down, let them in. I've seen way too many deaths in a car v.s truck scenario. It's simply not worth the few seconds or minutes off your journey, if you're lucky.

but this video suggests that truck drivers have a crash at least once a day, if we wanted to drive trucks for a living we would do it , but we don't. Don't make excuses for incidents you haven't witnessed he may live in an area with a lot of truck movement for construction and they dont look when exiting a site , why must car drivers yield to trucks every time , most car drivers don't drive as a job where as in truck drivers do it for a living so there the professional and should be driving more responsibly than the average joe blow , i witness trucks constantly going through orange and red lights and its not because they cant stop as they are going pretty slow when it happens which in turn prevents other vehicles from going about there business when its there turn (trucks included) if they dont like the length of the green light petition the local govt dept to extend them

The truck driver at 2:06 has made a number of mistakes here before the start of the accident: - He started overtaking another truck on the left (which in this case also boxed him in) - He allowed himself to get very close to the car in front of him - All this with poor visibility and a wet road surface I don't know exactly why the car in front slowed down but in a sense, it doesn't matter, he only slowed slightly. It might have been brake checking as some have suggested or it might have been that one of the common bits of advice for being tailgated is to gradually slow down to make the tailgater back off. The car might also have seen something ahead of concern. Overall, almost entirely the truck drivers fault.

As a matter of policy I never swerve to avoid a collision. I hit the brakes, hard, but not enough to lock up the wheels. Only had one: a deer. Several near misses. Swerving is dangerous; there isn't time to access the shoulder conditions, think about the embankment I might roll down, or consider the power pole I might hit, or see the family of four out for a walk. Staying in my lane is more 'the devil you know'. It sounds cold and calculated, but it is prudent. I prefer to think before acting.

@PsyDin_8 жыл бұрын
3:46 I swear to god 90% of drivers turn like this, and the only way to keep a safe distance from them is to do the same thing which isn't viable in a truck, how the hell people with a license end up turning like this is beyond me.
@Larwood.8 жыл бұрын
It's because they are fucking stupid. They think "road is 60/70, must drive at or above that speed at all times" regardless of whether there is a bend in the road they might need to slow down for. So they get to the bend but they have no confidence or even concept of their vehicle's cornering capabilities, so they think if they take the corner properly they'll skid out and kill themselves, and they know they're too shit to control the car if it starts losing grip, so they just cut the corner.
@goatee018 жыл бұрын
It's such an easy "turn" though, should be simple to stay within the lines without needing to slow down. Natural selection, why do we as society cater for the lowest common denominator in these situations rather than let nature take it's course.
@kimjongill41438 жыл бұрын

For the Yanks there, Aussies are as good a drivers as we are, or as least were when I lived there. A couple of decades ago there was no speed limit in the Red Centre, and people drove like they respected the thought of what could happen in the result of a collision. Now, there is a speed limit and drivers seem to act as if everything is safe now so they can relax when doing the speed limit. Seems to me that enacting a speed law also enacted the "duh" portion of the brain. Speed limit or not, challenging a road train is stupid in any location.

I'd seen the police had been chasing the faster moving car but they denied it (they just "happened" to turn up seconds later..). I told them he was going too fast but they said he wasn't because the speed I said he was going was lower than the limit.. Too fast for the situation is too fast for the situation end of.

If trains were the primary source of transportation, the infrastructure costs would be in the trillions. Then you would have more accidents with trains because they would be ubiquitous. Then people would be complaining about how stupid and dangerous the Australian train system is. Then they would want truck drivers to move their goods.

VideoMorsels you have a point in Australia where I can see the infrastructure costs would be disproportionate. In Europe we do have the rail infrastructure and we try to use it for moving people and put freight on the roads! I cannot agree with you on rail not being better and safer for moving freight when it is available though. It is deeply frustrating to be stuck behind a huge truck for hours on end and it is no wonder that some people eventually take risks to get past them, especially those not accustomed to the turn of speed required to do so quickly and safely.

Bose de-Nage did you just say what I thought you said? Fuck man, hitting a roo in truck would do way less damage then a train hitting a roo. Other shit as well would happen and we'd be like Greece, in fucking debt leading to the government asking for money from the Kiwis. Mate, those fucking road trains are fine. I live in the bush and you at least see 10-20 semis a day, and the occasional triple of quad. I'm learning to drive now and I don't have much experience, they seem big but there not. Calling the mad cunts up on the 2way and by asking them to tell you when there is a opening or if there is any threats that may danger me and my passengers. From you comment, your a city slicker who has driven in the city you whole fucking life, then you've had a bad experience with a truckie and hate em. You show them respect on the roads, they'll do everything in their will to make you feel safe and secure while driving, like the fucking last guy. Have a nice day mate 😊
