Ouch! When you support the dash mounts, use 1/2" stainless steel straps. Thinner and easier to get the dash back in.
@davidskalish
@davidskalish 4 жыл бұрын
Robert DIY your idea of the straps worked perfectly just as you described. Thank you Robert! I had this system running icy cold. But today the low pressure side line just popped off the evaporator. Couldnt believe it. I thought for sure it locked in place. It appears the line bottoms out when inserted all the way in. But i suppose the locking spring mechanism is stuck or broken. Have you run into this before?

Thanks for the tutorial yet again, Robert! I kept seeing people on the forums talk about removing the cowl between the hood and windshield to find the dash bolts and I wanted a visual. Of course you had one for me! My squeaky dash was driving me crazy, but I was able to retorque to dash bolts and it is pretty much gone now! Thanks again!

Hey rob, I've been following these videos to get rid of the dash noise and I would like to point out two things that made getting the whole dash out easier which are to remove the ashtray and also the shifter knob. You have that done on your video I just figured it would be useful to mention here. To remove the shifter knob you just put it on low gear and I just pulled it up with care and brute force so I'm hoping I didn't damage anything though that's what people said to do. Thanks for the video man, made things a hell of a lot easier though the broken pieces are overwhelming! I'm the third owner of a 99 S70 and apparently the only one who ales good care of it lol

The PO installed a modem and wired it to the climate control fuse. somehow, that unit wasn't allowing the a/c relay to work properly. i disconnected the modem wires, and had to thicken the fuse leg because of intermittent connectivity. low and behold 246k miles on the odometer and everything on it works like new

I have a 99 s70 and about 8 months ago the lower part of the dash on the passenger's side (under the glove box) detached itself. If I remember correct it looked like there were plastic "clips" that had snapped. I fixed it with A LOT of super glue and something to prop it up. Do you know a quick, easy, cheap fix for this? Also, do you know where I could find replacement parts?

I have a 1990 Volvo 760 GLE. I have a vacuum leak that I hear from inside the car, through the vents. There are 3 vacuum lines that plug into receptors on the firewall. I have disconnected them and plugged them temporarily, to avoid the loss of engine vacuum. Is there an easy way to find those lines inside the dash so as to discover and fix the leak. I think the lines are used to control the vent doors. Maybe you can point me to another of your videos which may better reveal a solution

Robert - I am getting ready to tackle this on a 1999 Volvo V70. The issue is that I don't have the access to parts from a salvage yard that includes a lot of Volvo parts. So, the question is this - without the brackets all being there, it is possible to repair the car using the existing dash? Thanks in advance and thanks for all the other videos...they are very, very helpful.

Hi Sarah. They are not special, if he knows what they are called (I did not), she should know how to get the loose. I'm pretty sure you use fuel line disconnects. I used some plastic ones that wrap around the lines, slide in and release the line.

It is someone who is new to the business of repairing cars and don't have a problem going online to people such as yourself and experiencing. It is not his trade. In either case, he is willing to help me fix my car to the best of his ability and that is why I came to you for your knowledge and help. Neither one of us has ever done anything like this before. @@RobertDIY Thanks for your quick reply ! You know what , I’m thinking your first guess was spot-on - bad ignition switch . About the fuses related to the windows : I did look for the window motor fuse(s) on the lid to the fuse box and was confused as there doesn’t seem to be designated fuse printed on the fuse list there . I DID however just went ahead and checked all my fuses just in case there was a fuse that covered more than just those windows - all looked good . SO , (and this is a tad embarrassing) because I have had that button on the gear shifter not pop back out , etc. so I’ve gotta fix that as well . I’ll have a look at the video that’s linked to the link you gave me . I’m about 95% sure that’s the issue . WIRING IS SO STRANGE ! (I just found your video that shows how to replace that gear shift button also) I mean , who would guess the windows and sunroof not operating would be related to a bad ignition switch ? Time to watch that and order some parts . Thank you again , Robert . Second time you’ve saved me $ ! Forgive my long reply . I’m just happy you were able to help me .

Has anyone managed to get a dysfunctional rearview mirror to work again, or is that a part that just gets replaced (contains the key fob receiver)? I'm not sure where the problem is, but it could be that the mirror receives the signal from the fob, but the door locks don't respond. probably too expensive or complicated to fix this problem (on a 2001 XC).

Aw man, not the windshield wiper shroud! I JB welded my left wiper arm to the armature after exhausting all other possible repair options. (The armature had no grip on the wiper arm and it was much too stripped to be fixed save to JB weld it.) Perhaps I can cut the shroud so that I don't have to remove the left windshield wiper. But if the tabs at the back of the dash are typically broken like crazy just from dry rot as shown in this video, then I suppose I can skip loosening the 4 bolts under the windshield shroud. The evaporator leaks and the driver side AC temp control valve is messed up. I can compensate for the slow evaporator leak by adding refrigerant every few months, but that valve, that valve... I don't know if I can access it short of dash removal.

It will probably fit, you'll need to do wiring and all of that stuff.

I can't seem to remove the center console in my S70, I need to fix the cigarette lighter and the bulb under the shifter. How did you remove it?

I really wish someone would show me how the airbag connector disconnects. I've watched 5 different videos and and searched forums and everyone just skips over that part without actually showing how to disconnect it. It's not a normal looking connector and it doesn't seem obvious on how to disconnect it so I don't want to break it. I'm stuck in limbo trying to remove my dash to replace/upgrade my dash speakers

I've posted several videos over the years showing how I disconnect it. Squeeze the taps and pull the wire out of the connector.

@@RobertDIY instructions don't really help. The connector I have doesn't look like yours. A video would help. I've watched 2 of your videos and they both skip over

Well, I don't even know what year model car you have. It's just a connector, isn't that hard to figure out.

This is why I live without air conditioning! I just don't think the car will ever be the same after this kind of disassembly; especially at 23 years old.

So so video. Great to show me where the screws are but I wish you'd taken a little more time on the not so obvious parts, like the removal of the airbags and steering wheel. Would've helped if someone else was holding the camera too. I have to do this job and I feel a little better about it now but still not totally comfortable. Also, I wish you'd showed how to repair all the broken mounts if I can't find a new dash. All in all, on a scale of 1 - 10, I give it about a 5.
