I interviewed Dakota Fanning after her first film, I Am Sam. She was 8. It was a group interview with her and 7 of us asking questions. She came in with her mother and event handler who told her where to sit. They walked over to a quiet corner and paid zero attention to us. Dakota sat down and was immediately in charge. She pointed at you, asked for your name and question. Every answer was a paragraph. When she left, the guys asked, "Is she 35?" Amazing.

Dakota Fanning has been an incredible actress from a young age. She's very endearing in the first act, and you can absolutely see how she could melt Creasy's heart. This is actually a remake. The original is set in Italy, with Scott Glenn (Jack Crawford from Silence of the Lambs), and is quite good also. Tony Scott (RIP) and Denzel have wonderful collaborations - Taking of Pelham 123 remake, Unstoppable, Deja Vu, and Crimson Tide (I think you saw this already)

This my favorite movie of all time, it’s because it is a good thing that comes from a very dark place. He was on the right “side”, but he did bad things in the name of something, but he feels an owed penance for that. My favorite line is the, “if you move, I’ll snatch the life right out of you.” Or the, “Do you think God will forgive us for what we’ve don?” And then Christopher Walken looks back at him and says No with such a look of certainty..

This one gets left off a lot of the Best Remakes (or re-adaptations) lists, but I think it's up there. The partnership of Tony Scott and Denzel (who made five films together) really carries it, and Brian Helgeland excels at adapting this kind of material into a screenplay, as he previously did in LA Confidential, Blood Work, Payback, and Mystic River. I definitely think it's a better movie than the 1987 version. Fun fact: Tony Scott lobbied to direct the 1987 film, after his massive success with Top Gun, but the producers didn't think he was right for it. I think he proved them wrong in the end.

In 2003 I drove to old Lerado in my car to just see the city. I did not spend the night there but just wanted to see Mexico. The next day at school I told my students, who were mostly from Mexico or central America, I went to Lerado and thought they would be proud of me. Everyone in the class got quiet and one student asked, "Did you take your car?" I said yes, and the whole class said, "you are stupid." One student told me to go watch, "Man of Fire," I watched this movie and I have no interest in wandering in Mexico without a plan again.

There is an alternate ending to this movie where basically he used the C4 trick and blew everyone up. The ending narrative does make it confusing but this movie isn't really based on a specific true story. Its actually a remake of a older movie that had Joe Pesci and Scott Glenn but they kinda added a few kidnapping stories in there. Either way it's one of those action movies that I still love

I've seen this movie a few times but it's been a while. Never saw that ending but that's what I thought was going to happen. The ole dead man switch. The audience would have to imply that he put a bomb up his bum and then they would have to explain how did he time it. I can see why they didn't do that route.
