@@johnnichol9412 The cop didn't intend to have to make the right hand turn until the event took place. Where was he/she suppose to go? It was a last second turn, the P plater, really, shouldn't have been that close to the car in front of them in the first place, they were very close to rear ending the police car and the cam car was no better, had to pull to the left to avoid hitting the p plater.

@HavokTheorem Жыл бұрын
@@alandouglas2789 This is one case where having a P plate might be legitimately useful, then. Making the judgment to swerve around a suddenly stopping car is not easy. You should ideally be checking your mirror and blind spot, but even experienced drivers might struggle to do that instinctively in a moment. The longer you wait, the more likely it is that the car behind you will try doing the same thing, so committing to stopping might be justified. This is a common and dangerous situation on narrower roads without a doubt, though.

Just posting this cause I think a surprising amount of people don't know this, and it's an easy way to save a lot of money, as I believe every state has the same principle in the law: Can I be fined for driving through a yellow light? Yes. If you drive through a yellow light when you could have safely stopped prior to the intersection you are liable to be fined. The penalties for doing so in Victoria include the loss of three demerit points and up to 2.5 penalty units. For the 2022/2023 year, one penalty unit is equivalent to $184.92. This means you can be fined up to $462.30 for going through a yellow light. If you choose to dispute the fine in court and lose, up to ten penalty units can be applied, translating to a $1,849 fine. If you go through a yellow arrow, the penalty is doubled (that is, five penalty units can be deducted).

Some of these drivers need to grow up imo thinking it’s real funny someone is getting pulled over by the police. Whenever I see it, I just drive past silently grateful that it’s not me. I’m not speeding, not drunk and not on my phone and never have been. No one suspects there’s going to be a Highway Patrol car cruising the streets to catch somebody out. I’m sorry but I can’t take some of these dash cam drivers seriously.

I try to leave space for motorcycles and bicycles as it's easy to get closer. However it's usually the riders who are (literally) 20cm from the back of the car in front which is why I give them space - lest they get sandwiched if someone behind me isn't paying attention!

One of my ultimate pet peeves, where it makes my blood actually boil is when a vehicle does not know how to either move or stop for an emergency service vehicle ! Like what more do you possibly need to move? If you hear sirens and flashing lights and sometimes a freaking horn MOVE to your left, slow down to 40km/h and if a cop car is going slowly behind you it might actually mean its for you so where it is safe to do so park on the left. Also to all the people hating on coppers, if you dont do anything wrong you wont get a fine
@AnotherDoug Жыл бұрын
In NSW, you only have to slow to 40 if the emergency vehicle is stopped on the side of the road (depending on the road speed limit): "When passing a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing blue or red lights: if the speed limit is 80km/h or less, you must slow down to 40km/h. if the speed limit is over 80km/h, you must slow down safely and move over. This includes changing lanes on a multi-lane road, if it's safe to do so.

2:50 it's such a shame there was no karma for the dashcam driver. Passing the car in front that stopped for the police car is up there with the most arrogant moves available. She had more than enough time to stop, even with her rubbernecking. Then she passed just as the other car was clear to take off again. Piece of trash driver in a 4WD/SUV.

What would you prefer? Being pulled over by a plod, or getting a letter in the mail 3 weeks after you've done something on the road? Personally, I'd prefer getting pulled over on the spot. At least you'd know immediately what you'd done wrong, and also you have a remote chance of talking yourself out of a ticket. A letter after 3 weeks does NOTHING to prevent chaos on the roads.
@stoojinator Жыл бұрын
I got done twice in a year - both in spots that have low traffic, no pedestrians, and both in a transition zone from 60 to 80 (two different spots in Port Stephens NSW). It took weeks for the tickets to arrive so I had no idea I'd been done. But after getting them I'm now so damn careful. That was 15 years ago and never got another one. So they do work- maybe not on everyone. But what shits me about mobile speed cameras is they are almost always in places which don't really matter if people do a few ks over the limit. They're never in spots where say kids could be killed.

2:14 I know that intersection (St Pauls tce / Constance street) well. 2:50 So many things going on here. Car gives it some stick and possibly an illegal right turn. only issue is that most of these drivers don't give a shit. They will either ignore the fine/ticket, or appear before a magistrate & get a slap on the wrist. Read an article a few years ago where a NSW tradie was pulled over for having an unsecured load. Not only was he already disqualified from driving for 3+ years, but his ute was defective, had 53 demerit points against his name & owed $42,000 in fines. Despite 20+ appearances before a magistrate, hadn't spent a day in jail !
