I would not pay attention to comments on a subject that you are more knowledgeable on, your work is always first class, the furniture you chose is always an intelligent choice. Your work is that of a perfectionist.

Well said. I'll also add that I'll never understand those people who want to discard things just because they are not of the highest quality, that to me seems incredibly wasteful. If the end result of a restoration or repair is a functional and even nice looking item then I'd say that the time spent on it is well worth it. Plus of course the person working on it has the satisfaction of a job well done.

It looks beautiful. Everything you do is top notch. I wanted to tell you, I recently stripped and "restored" an antique oak quartersawn mantle. It was pretty beat up. I am that person who thinks they can do anything and everything. My skill-set is want, determination and what I've seen on KZbin, particularly on your channel. I am also a 67 year old woman. We had two antique mantles but one got completely blown to bits in a F4 tornado. I recovered the bits and pieces. So, I took veneer from the blown up mantle and replaced a HUGE area on the beat up mantle where the veneer had been obilerated. I have to say, even my very discerning husband said, the repair looks great. And I owe it all to you. Without watching your videos, I'd never have even attempted such a repair. Just wanted you to know. Thanks!

That dining set turned out great. During the reveal it dawned on me how proud the original owners probably were when they brought that set into their home. Anybody who thinks pressed wood is inferior doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Most Mid Century furniture from the early 60’s onwards was made this way: veneered particle board with solid wood clashing and features - drawer pulls and legs etc. It’s a technology that allowed this type of furniture to be produced economically, at scale, and with consistent quality. Sure, it has its drawbacks, but so does solid wood. Go take a look at the top dollar designer cabinets from this era, credenzas and dressers etc - a significant majority of them are made with pressed wood panels and are still going strong! 😎
@ag54157 ай бұрын
Well put and very true. This is the function that should be appreciated along with its form. I have furniture from a few decades in my home and my mid century furniture is consistent in form with no warping. My antique english walnut secretary for example is beautiful (and smells wonderful) but I find warping common with solid wood pieces such as this. Which is a bit more challenging to repair imo. I find refinishing and repairing midcentury fairly straight forward. It’s also lighter in weight / easier to move.

I remember my parents having a smaller table similar to this with particle board when I was a kid. That thing was stone solid. It was also a beautiful dining set. I sometimes think people get upset about particle board because of all the cheap wal mart stuff today that easily breaks and that's the first thing that comes to their mind when they see Mid-Century Furniture with particle board. I think the glues and how they were made ( the particle board that is) was made differently in those days and the particle board was often much stronger and better quality.

What a beautiful result, Steve. My parents gave me their Broyhill Saga dining room set from 1963, when I got my first house 27 years ago.
