Which you might consider attempting if you can find some plumbata that don't break the bank. I think another thing that has to be put into consideration: Accuracy isn't really THAT important on the battlefield. The phalanx (whether Hoplite, Macedonian, or Roman Legion) would be shoulder to shoulder. The skirmishers (which all slingers were really) are just there to cause some casualties, but mostly harass them so that (hopefully) they do something stupid. Even those that missed your 'aim point' would have hit *somewhere* in the mass of enemy... and having a pokey metal spike hanging from your eye is just going to make your day a lot less pleasant.

For instance I found that a “handle” that was wider but with lesser depth so the palm was facing "up" combined with a separate stud or shelf for the index finger curl around and transfer force and guidance was very effective for me. And while we are exploring this rabbit hole I do not find it a necessary to have flexible dart shafts - many more experienced users may debate this but the aboriginals do not use flexible shafts and seem to know what they are doing ; ) Each to his own.

Hearing the name "Dash Rendar" took me WAY back.

Haha “that’s a name…I have not heard…for a long time” 😂

The woomera is a tad heavier, but because of how it's made it's basically got a loading groove for a faster reload. That 'groove' is actually a curved carry basket, and the holding end usually includes a stone-headed digging point. Multipurpose survival tool.

Metatron brought me here, but I stayed for the nerd out.

I have a dear friend that was doing his best to accurately replicate medieval era armors/shields, well... armor crafting if you will.. Sadly he's not with us anymore, but damnit he would love your channel. Still amazingly glad that Metatron discovered your channel and pointed me in your direction edit* Like metatron, its refreshing to see creators make the content they WANT to make, instead of simply doing what makes the most money based on the algorithm

I’m very sorry to hear about your friend. He sounds like he would’ve been an amazing guy to know. So glad you enjoy the videos as it really is just a passion project and I love to share it.

You are right about the first Australian people’s name. The pronunciation is also pretty darn close to how we (white Australians) say it anyways. I expect our first Australians brothers and sisters have different words for this depending on their language anyway as Woomera comes from the Dharug people of the Sydney basin.

Glad to hear I was not too far off. It’s a very cool device and pre-date the atlatl like quite a bit and it’s a shame it doesn’t have more recognition. It is a similar device, but they did it first 😂😂

Great video. I've found the bar type projectiles really shine in the parabolic lob. 4-6 inches long and ½-¾ inches diameter rebar comes down hard.

Ah that makes sense, I was not sure which release system would work best, but I’ll have to try that. Also, thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

I know it’s a way earlier weapon than most of the ones you test, but with your accuracy on target with other weapons I’d love to see you test 3 Stone Age weapons against armor: the atl-atl (spear thrower), the bola bola (sling with two weights on each end) and the boomerang. It’d be really cool!
@dashrendar53207 күн бұрын
Well I do the atlatl from time to time but never tried the Bola or Boomerang, which would be fun for sure haha

Bear in mind our ancestors would have spent years using these weapons to perfection.

Oh, for certain, I can only try and replicate what an enthusiast can do. Not someone who is raised on it.

Definitely not something I would try to figure 8 throw with……. Thanks for another great vid. Mad I have to dig for ammo under all this snow…..and -20c. Hehe! But hey expecting plus 2 in about a week……. Hmmmm, better dig out a few bags of rocks and stash em! Rock on neighbour!

Haha oh man I do not envy your snowy climate haha: gonna be a sunny day here again 😂 but yeah those things legit terrified me to try and sling….i have done lots of silky stuff but that made me the most nervous by far

One of the complaints about the new army M7 rifle, is you can't carry as much ammunition. Mini torpedo's enter the chat.😂

Already here from the Tod's video, but I did have a chuckle that Metatron discovered this a bit after me.
