Trains in the US, Canada and Mexico are driven on the right side. This is to read track side signals, switches and indicators which are placed on the right hand side of the track. But the right hand rule is not always followed, it varies depending on the dispatchers discretion, track availability and train queues to effeciently move trains in between sections of track 21:25 iirc those type boxcars dont have stairs that goes all the way up, it just serves as a platform for train conductors to hold on to during switching. However the hopper cars adjacent you can climb to the top. 26:00 these setups are DPUs (Distributive power units) they distribute the braking power throughout the train and operate in conjuction to the head end of the locomotive via remote control. They are usually placed mid train or in this case rear end to help heavy unit trains (coal, grain, etc.) that travel along a route with plenty of steep grades

Future reference, if you are interested in accuracy, in the US the horn signal for a level crossing is a slow morse code 'Q' ' _ _ . _ ' with the final long note blown as the engine passes through the crossing. you're getting the pacing of the signal right if every long note is around a second or two long.

I live about 30 miles south of Cheyenne. BNSF seems to have one mile long set as the minimum distance. Although it seems to have eased during the pandemic they they had started experimenting with three mile-long trains with multiple engines in the middle. They took FOREVER to pass, particularly in my hometown, where trains slow to 10mph in the downtown area.
@pman75052 жыл бұрын
BNSF Orders are nothing under 120 cars for mixed freight, in my territory, soo could be 6500 - 9000 ft, all depends on cars. Believe summer plan/ territory specific..... they want 10,000ft+. Less crews, less trains operating, more $$$ but system has been set for decades of 7500ft or less. Typical coal is 7200ft for 135 cars, 3 motors.

The two routes started as two different railroads with interchange yards. Nowadays American railroads use a priority one-way system on the majority of trunk and main lines. The occasional local trains pass in the opposite direction. Also on some lines the priority direction changes depending upon the time of day and types of trains they are pushing through. All dispatching, train and track control, except for a few train yards, on the UPRR system is conducted remotely out of Omaha, Nebraska.

Proper horn signalling for US railways is as follows Stop: One blast of the horn Forward: Two blasts of the horn Reverse: Three blasts of the horn Grade crossing: Long long short long ((Start no more than 20 seconds from the crossing if below or at 45mph, or at the whistle post/one-quarter mile from the grade crossing if above 45 mph, the whistle post is marked as a sign with W on it, the last long shall be blown until the lead unit reaches through the grade crossing))

For those who don't know how dynamic braking works, instead of the engine generating electricity to be used by the traction motors, the traction motors generate electricity which is then sent through large resistor banks near the rear of the locomotive.
@SternLX2 жыл бұрын
I think people get confused because they hear the engine ramp up beyond Dynamic 4. It ramps up engine RPM to increase cooling on those Resistor banks. That's a crap of waste heat they have to shed and they can't use the power from the Traction motors to run the cooling system.
@GloryGamer882 жыл бұрын
Good 'Ole Sherman Hill! Brings me back to the original Train Simulator
@pootmahgoots84822 жыл бұрын
If I remember right, dynamic braking is when the generator is spun up faster to create a load on the electric motors without adding more power to them so they will slow down. The excess heat created by the added amperage is then routed to the heat exchanger which is where those fans are on the top of the locomotive. That's at least what I remember from another video that did a full breakdown of diesel electric locomotives and their systems. So not really an engine break in the traditional sense.

For most of the US there is only one rail anyway so when you get into a double rail situation, it depends on what you need to do there and which line is considered the "main" line. Dovetail is hell-bent on keeping Banking Comms as poorly documented of a feature as possible. That switch turns on distributed power so the locomotives in the middle and in the back of the consist mirror what you are doing with throttle and brakes. If you have ever struggled with the climb in Sand Patch Grade in the base game, it's because it never tells you to turn on banking comms.

Everything's pretty accurate in this game. On a real train you would start out in notch 2 or 3 until you have pulled all the "slack" out of the train. There is about ½ inch in-between each railcar of slack that adds up anywhere between 15 to 20 FEET in total slack in the whole train. So, when the front engine starts to move it'll be awhile before the end of the train even starts to move. You have to be careful in real life not to brake the train apart by giving too much power when taking off. It also can take about 10 to 15 minutes to "charge" the train or in other words build pressure in the air line.

Answer your question Squirrel aka Paul 11:38 lefthand side is because track into yard siding the huge loop out is used for Detartrating Said yard, which is the main way into yard siding, 22:56 LD LMT 224200 is Load Limit & LT WT is Load Tonnage Weight 61800 which is a certified Weight Limit to that Freight car as that's what It can handle to be safe running. Ask me anything Railroading years of experience. The number one thing Dovetail gets Wrong every time on any Route is the amount of Locomotives and perceived as always activate which is false, I understand it's a game but when you're going to add real life in game physics and wheel slip to a game that's Titled as a SIMULATOR yeah get your facts right on Locomotives as where Not every Locomotive should be active, and anything over 100 tons should have 3 locomotives behind its main lead unit. The Average person thinks or believes all Locomotives that are in a train are Active Power and are pulling when in fact there Not. One Locomotive has the Power to pull 88 American Freight cars with No problems reasons why most trains carry more Locomotives is due to 2 reasons first to Spread out their mass pulling Power as a single unit they can only pull so much until wheel slip so coupled up to another heavy mass, they spread-out their Power mass for pulling power Big Reasons why Yard Slug units can pull and push massive amounts of cars over Humps as I've worked for other Railroading Companies for 23 yards as Hump Master which Mother Hump Units have a Lower Gravity center Mass and Gears. Second is it's always better to have than not to have Power, if need more power fire it up. If or if not with a Helper unit. "DPU" Distributed Power Unitunits unpowered unit CP powered unit controlled from the Engineer from the Main Lead Unit, are only added to a constant mid-way that's more than 140 cars long or given Weight to help pull the load apart easier pull making it an easier run and cut pull than others. Been retired for 23 years from Penn Central, Conrail got back into railroading as an overseer for "NS" Norfolk Southern in the last 7 years so now 30 years Railroading. Haven't met the player that has told and knows the difference to Real Life to Game that can tell me the difference.

Sorry If I ever sound sarcastic but that's me, mean No harm. Reason that I know for frame drops in areas and now you'll start watching for it is the Track is to detail, it's all about the Track the fps drops nothing else, you'll notice it now when in area's the track will start fading out around you. 21:48 a Conductor wouldn't be walking down in the yard as in game, the Conductor and Engineer would have both been picked up by a Rail Driver in a Van or Truck and Transported to New location as the Train itself Yard Crew would check it out and set-up everything. All Yard Crews carry Keys on them do to Special Locked Switches that give access to areas that Mainline shouldn't be on. 29:15 the square area with the hole is a multi-used area the hole is actually used to put and hold the Reverser Lever in it as there isn't any place to really set it as when Rail Crews stop in yards to switch Mainline Travel Crews out mainly Conductors and Engineers, the Train goes through a Series of Scheduled Tests before Leaving the yard with a fresh crew this is an FRA ( Federal Railroad Administration ) requirement that needs to be done always before a train leaves a yard under No circumstance can a train crew leave without one being done. Almost every American Freight train unless if it's a One Month Local run or just out of shop would need a Cold Start up as every other are always running to save on Fuel of a Restart. There's honestly a lot I could talk about the Unit and or the crew that's never implemented or followed through in game as to real life. 32:00 All American Hoppers for making Cement only carry the Raw products to produce Concrete as Concrete doesn't get shipped by rail as it needs to be moving always as it would harden so Sand would most likely be transported to the Cement Factory only. 37:11 what needs to be in game is a Distance Counter as it would tell the Engineer where the Rear end is length wise which is used in game but it's set-up automatically and can't be touched as in real life you could set it to count down and helps you knowing when to stop that your rear is clear of a switch by counting down the distance of your train as when set. 40:10 Curious Paul reasons for other Mainline was to lighten the Load Run over the hilltop as you have to remember at one time Steam Locomotives ran here first . Railroads Don't get a Lot of Credit as they should when they're the ones that figured out every day modern travel machine first. I get a lot of people saying boats came first for travel true, but MAN didn't invent Water as Railroads invented Rail's to run on. True Fact Railroads coined the Phrase Horsepower first Not the Automobile.

The issue with lighting being washed out is not due to the Unreal engine. It's caused by Dovetail not setting up lighting correctly. They are still going by very old, limited dynamic range standards, rather than using realistic light intensities. You can see this plainly when you turn on step lights, and see them light the train up significantly despite it being the middle of the afternoon on a clear, sunny day. Outdated lighting practices like this won't look good in a modern engine.
