As a trucker in the USA the things you are thinking of are called scales. When you get a load it's best to scale out to make sure each axle has the proper weight distribution and that you are not over loaded ( lots of companies love to over load your truck to save a few pennies). Also if a scale house is open you are obligated to stop unless you have a pass. The pass sticks on the window and if it turns red you have to pull into the scale house if it turns green you can pass right on by. If you do not have a pass (the pass is optional and is priced like a subscription fee. some companies pay it for you though) then you have to pull into the scale house. If you do not, you get a cop chasing after you and at minimum a fine. some times you will loose your licenses and a cop will escort you back to the scale house to weigh you. If you are over weight, that is a whole other legal battle. lmao

Man you check weight distribution in US, youtube truck overloading in India
@thegamemaster2000
@thegamemaster2000 9 жыл бұрын
Vibhav Mohan well each axle can only hold so much weight to prevent damage to roads. hell, 80,000lbs (40tons) is the max you can pull with out a special permit. But I know trucks that can pull twice that much. it's all about road preservation. We are not a impoverished nation like india, so it makes no sense to destroy roads just because we have the ability to.

+Deadlylyon15 Ok, actually here in India there are no trailer+trucks just conected ones and in villages they are overloaded as all hell.
@thegamemaster2000

Vibhav Mohan yes, you stated that already. I know what sort of trucks are driven over there, and the road condition is the least of their worries, they drive passes that would make any grown man cringe in fear. But here in america, we do things differently because we have a government that regulates what we can do and how we can do it in the transportation industry.

To answer the question, Squirrel, Truck drivers are REQUIRED to scale if the station is open. If it's closed then they can just pass it. We have 3 weigh stations around me in Douglas County, Oregon. One on Highway 42, about 1 mile to my west, 1 on Interstate 5 to the north about 50 miles, and 1 more to the south about 15 miles. Of course there are more along the way either direction, and multiple travel stops (Including the Love's Travel Center about 4 miles to my East on Highway 99/42 at Interstate 5 Exit 119, and another at the Pilot at Exit 148. Travel Center Scales are NOT Required stops.

11:45 Most weigh stations in the US kind of open and close randomly...somewhat like how the cops set up speed traps randomly. The point is to randomly catch trucker scofflaws without having to spend the money needed to keep the weigh station open 24/7.
@Draco_Alpha
@Draco_Alpha 7 жыл бұрын
The amount of traffic you’re facing is pretty realistic. Once you get away from the big cities and into the countryside the roads are very empty. Welcome to America! And yes, sometimes there are random signs that make giant blind spots in intersections... It makes it super difficult sometimes to finish a turn.

When it comes to weigh stations, if a trucking company has a good safety score, they can get a device called "PrePass". It allows the driver to pass under a sensor on the highway, if the driver gets a green light they dont pull into the weigh station. If they geta red light, they are required to pull in and get weighed.
@erwincummings1993
@erwincummings1993 9 жыл бұрын
In USA on Interstate Roads, most trucking companies provide their drivers with Electronic Log books and In-Cab-Signalling. "In Cab Signalling" dictates whether or not they have to enter into open weigh stations. They are run by State Troopers. They also may decide to check logs, paperwork and inspect the vehicle and load. At the border between USA and Canada, in addition to above, if your truck or load is deemed too dirty, you have to go have it washed and come back later. Even when the Scales/Weigh Stations are closed, troopers have portable scales and can pull you over anywhere on the road.

alright, just a correction on his geology, The Rocky Mountains are not caused by the Pacific Plate. This is because the San Andreas fault is a transform boundary (meaning the move in opposite directions relatively.) The Juan de Fuca Plate was pushed underneath the North American Plate, but unlike most plates where it subducts down and melts, it kind of slid underneath the North American Plate like a sliver under your skin. That is Why the Rockies are such a broad mountain Range (compared to the Andes, Alps or Drakenbergs)
@C2JZ
@C2JZ 9 жыл бұрын
+Azivegu He's talking about the Sierra Nevada mountains, which were created by the subduction of the Juan de Fuca under the North American plate, full subduction with melting. However, you're correct that it is now a transform boundary (San Andreas fault). As the Juan de Fuca has subducted, its southern boundary has slid north, leaving the transform boundary behind. I wish I could find the animations we had in class, I'm not the best at explaining things :P
@Azivegu
@Azivegu 9 жыл бұрын
C2JZ haha, I know what you are talking about and can visualize it, but I am a geology student so I dont know if that is standard. But the JdF was larger, but is almost completely 'absorbed' by the NA plate. The Sierra are really a part of the formation of the Rockies (just the flat version of it, for roughly the same reasons the Rockies formed, but not exactly. it involves mathematics and geological theories that I would need several books to explain in detail, and Im still just a student.) But what it all comes down to, if you want to learn some interesting orogenese (mountain building events) the west coast of the US and Canada are really interesting.
@C2JZ
@C2JZ 9 жыл бұрын
+Azivegu Hmm, interesting. I never learned much about the formation of the Rockies so can't really comment on that. What I learned was that the Sierras were specifically formed by the subduction of the Juan de Fuca (actually looking into it again, I'm reminded that it used to be called the Farallon plate before it was absorbed into different sections with the JdF being the northern). I've only taken two classes so far though, Intro Geology and Geology of California, so it's entirely possible what you're talking about is just further down the line than where I'm at. I'll look forward to it as I continue my studies!
@mobypimpdrop1054
@mobypimpdrop1054 9 жыл бұрын
+C2JZ + Azivegu IIRC the pacific plate is moving northwards, and the North American plate southwards, and stuck in the middle is the Juan de Fuca plate, which is just being smashed into the NA Plate, creatin the Sierra Nevada Mountains. At some point, the western coast will separate from the JdF and NA Plates, and the San Francisco Bay Area will basically flood the central valley of California.
@RailRide
@RailRide 9 жыл бұрын
+Moby Pimpdrop The Pacific plate is moving northwest (shown by the arrangement of the Hawaiian islands) and the North American is moving due west. The San Andreas accounts for the difference in motion between the two. Supposedly at some point in the far-off future the motion along the SA will shift to another fault farther east as North America continues overriding the eastern edge of the Pacific plate.

Welcome to America! Trees, signs, large bushes, fences, if it's got a stop sign, we'll block your view for you! Also, when you enter a city, the speed is going to drop massively. On a highway it's generally to 65ish (depending on city/state) and on a small road 30 is fairly typical.
@brandoyip
@brandoyip 9 жыл бұрын
I really love the grunge on the design of ATS (uneven road textures, dirty buildings, rusty stuff etc). But one thing that I really think the developers should do is maybe add some potholes or uneven bits of road, particularly in remote areas. It would really enhance the feel of driving as you'll be driving over bumps and uneven parts where you can feel and hear the tyres and suspension of the truck, instead of a smooth drive with just the visuals of the uneven road textures and whatnot. It just doesn't feel as authentic. Even the roads in urban areas aren't always perfectly smooth.

I used to work for a trucking company here in the states. It wasn't uncommon for truckers to take loads that they knew were over weight. The weigh stations have signs ahead of them, and if the sign is lit the trucks have to stop and get weighed at the following weigh station, when the station was full they would turn the sign off temporarily. I heard stories about drivers who knew they were overloaded, pulling off to the side of the road right before a lit weigh station sign and waiting for it to turn off before gunning it to make it past the sign before it turned back on.

It just closed in the 1970s and they left it, so it is unchanged, the engines have never left. Ely is home to all these neat old buildings and the railway goes through town,mot their historic workshops and depot there, with 3 steam trains.

Speed limits are often implied, based on where you are, here in North America. For example, here in Ontario, the implied limits are 80 km/h on rural roads and 50 in urban or rural residential areas. More often than not, speed limits are posted, but when they are not, they still exist. Having said that, we Ontarians are quite notorious for always speeding, though the rule of thumb there is around about 10 to 15 over, as speeding infractions start to cost more at that point...hence speed limits of 40 and even 30 around schools and such, and even slower in campgrounds and the like.

Alot of times a dot sits before scale also for visual inspections and if he catches anything out of place he will flag you in. All are different depending on state but the majority work this way. There is a pre scale design the you can actually run your tires between the scale and it want register your truck and you just keep on trucking lol.

Weigh stations in America have "open" and "closed" signs for most of them. If it's open, you have to go into them. There is nothing voluntary in America. You do what they say or it costs you $. As for speed limits, a lot of them end with a "5", and that is why the speedometers mostly end in "5". Most common are 25, 35, 55, 65.

DOT scales are not optional. When they're open, they're mandatory for all commercial vehicles. The only exception is if you have a special transponder on your truck that can communicate with the scale house ahead and tell you if you need to pull in and scale or if you can stay on the Interstate and bypass it. If the transponder does not give you a bypass, or if you don't have the transponder at all, you must pull into the scale when it's open. Period. The "CAT Scales" you see at truck stops (in the game, the ones where there's a fuel station in the same place) are entirely optional. They have no relation to the DOT, they're there for truckers to weigh their trucks to ensure their loads and weight distribution are legal.

Truck Drivers in the USA have to stop at a weight station in each state. If they don't then a State Trooper that is certified in Commercial Trucking will pull you over and they would check for inspections and stuff on the side of the road.

Not sure about the USA but possibly the reason for speed drops without a sign is that once you are in city limits and not on a major highway, the speed is 50KPH unless otherwise posted. So if there is no sign, it is 50. That said, most times when you are on a road and there is a change, they will usually post the change so likely just a game thing.

So, the California map ends at Holbrook. South of there is the town of Yreka...and south of that, next to Mount Shasta, is Weed. I'm sure some map modders will add those sooner or later.

If the weigh station says it is open ALL commercial vehicles must stop to get weighed, and if you dont sometimes they have a chase police car to pull you over.

Squirrel in a America if you come into a town by law it is a given that a populated area has a speed limit of no more than 30. So unless marked otherwise a speed limit in a residential area is 30 MPH.

If a weigh station is open you have to stop in unless you get bypassed which an electronic gizmo in your truck that gives you permission to bypass it is called PrePass. Not stopping at an open weigh station will get you a big fat ticket and a huge hassle.And weigh stations do not exist for public safety they are mainly a revenue generator for the State and the Department of Transportation (DOT). The weigh station is just a modern version of highway robbery.

In regards to trailer homes, it's usually a finance thing. An average trailer home is around $30,000 - $50,000 USD.

In Canada, there are signal lights that indicate whether you need to stop at the weigh scales or not.

In the United States i'am pretty sure this is universal in every state but in town speed limit is normally 30 mph if so when ever you enter city limits normally posted by a "Green Sign" if a speed limit is not posted 30 mph is the mandated limit by default. As for the weight stations i'am not sure how they work but i do have a family member who does actually drive Semi truck across the us.

Paul, just a small hint for hired drivers, let them first level long distance cargo, so they won't stuck in one area for too long (Like Lenka constantly hauling sand from one part of Vegas to another ^_- ) and they will pretty quick start to earn quite lot of $.

Not sure anyone has answered this yet (apologies if you have!) but I thought I could answer your question about the mobile homes. Jackpot is super young as towns go (it's not even a town, officially, but that's a boring civics explanation) and in the beginning banks weren't sure it would last, which is understandable when you find out how many ghost towns Nevada actually has, so they were hesitant to extend loans for house construction in the town. Because of that people lived in trailers, I'm guessing they just became part of the place's identity.

8:05 - 9:00 Almost every single car gets into the right lane, after passing him. Is that because he's going slow and they're just passing him? or is it just a coded thing?
