I lucked out and just accepted a well paying analyst role with nothing more than the Google Data Analyst Certification and a Tableau Desktop Certification and a little bit of background in the same domain.

@@Itsdlu I applied alot of the concepts to my existing roles as a supervisor and workforce agent. Typically just referencing special projects I'd worked on utilizing data to make business decisions. Even if it wasn't my decision, I would still talk about the numbers and why the business decided to go in that direction as a result. Basically associating the answers to my experience as much as possible and making sure to use terminology and statistics terms to prove I understand the concepts.

@@ElijahParfitt This times 10.... Too often people in the computer science field lack the skills to be able to sell themselves. There are 100000 people with the same qualifications, who can do the job, but don't have ANY people skills.... Those people then apply for jobs left and right, never getting beyond the first stage or two of the process. People skills > more coding skills. Period. You're going to develop the coding skills, but not everyone can develop the people skills that work well in an organization.

You two are pseudo-mentoring me through this career change. I lean on both of you almost as much as I learned from the Google Certificate. Absolutely crucial information. I was struggling (still am) learning R through the course and didn't know why/when to use it, then I came to Shashank's channel and saw him do a data cleaning project in an hour-long video using python and it cleared up so many questions I had. Can't thank you guys enough

Thanks for the video. Been watching a bunch of your content to help me learn and get a job in data. I have a BA and psychology and no real work experience for data. But I have just finished my first month at a health care data job and am loving it. Thanks for all the help!!

14:32 "you need to do more" You definitely need to do more, the certification is really not enough. As a matter of fact it's possible to run through the courses within a matter of month or less than a month. Employers would know this too. Fine you have this certification, what did you do with (the knowledge gained) it?! It is advisable to get your hands dirty with projects to hone your skill. Thank you guys for having this insightful conversation. It's really helpful ✨

Very nice stream... Unfortunately couldn't join it live. I have a master's degree in Zoology (specialization in molecular biology) and am looking to transition my career. I'm almost at the end of the Google data analytics certificate and had some doubts about what to do next to get a decent job. Your stream did help me clarify some important things.. so thank you guys 😀

I’m actually working as a Data Analyst now with the help of the Coursera course, along with your videos of course! As for the job seeking portion, you may have to get a little creative on your end for that, especially with how your resume is structured. Most companies choose to hire via an automated process that detects key words in resumes. I suggest researching what those job specific key words may be, as well as there being many many online resources and services that may aid in that. Thanks again for another awesome video Shashank!

I started watching Luke's videos and eventually landed on Shashank's channel. I had many questions in mind when I applied for my Masters in BA, watching both Luke's and Shashank's videos has cleared every queries I had on, what to learn, when to learn, where to learn and how to implement all the skills. Now, overall I have a "road map" to land a job as I finish my Master's😄😄 Thank you for your efforts and time🤙

The way 4 year degree works is that it has a General Education component. It's not a vocational school. It's true that most of the score skills for a particular job can be learned in 2 or even 1 year, but then you'll be lacking other aspects of education. It's good to have a general knowledge and understanding of multiple subjects, including arts or economics even if you're going to be an engineer. Because all education will be outdated at some point so the 4 year degree is more about establishing a foundation rather than the most up to date particular skills. Some people idea of college is probably more like vocational school. And yes, imo for many jobs vocational school should be enough.

Great! Too bad I missed the live! Came because of Luke and immediately subscribed. Shashank commented about a Master’s degree obviously standing out but like I asked Luke before, I’d like to see interviews or opinions about Post Graduate/specialization courses, which are usually shorter and more affordable than a Master’s. Are those well seen by employers? I’m not even sure in English speaking countries that’s the same thing as in Brazil ( I’m from Brazil but live in Japan, where it’s even difficult to explain what a PG is). In Brazil they are called Lato Sensu( Latin for “in a broad sense) Postgraduate Course or specialization, in opposition to Stricto sensu graduate courses ( Masters and doctorate courses). I’m also not sure if what they call PG diploma or certificate in India is the same thing ( offered for example by Simplilearn in association with Purdue University). I’d be interested to know if those options are worth doing.

Shashank has also said he didn't know anyone without a college degree. So I don't expect him to know what's going down in these lowly streets and the GDA course.
