With me on disability for over 10 years it took the joy out of me. I took this program just in case I get back in the working society which I miss very much, I've been honing my skills for the past 5 years and it's not easy. I have to start at the very bottom in order to get into data analytics, but mainly as part time temporary or as a freelancer. It is difficult especially at my age (50s)

It was a great discussion.. I thoroughly enjoyed the valuable insights and opinions.. I am an oil & gas professional with 18 years experience, master’s degree in energy, bachelor’s in mechanical and PMP certified.. with COVID, I am finding it hard to find new opportunities after being jobless for almost a year now.. i am doing this certification so that I can perhaps get work as analyst with oil & gas or energy-focussed industry or even renewables..As i am located outside US, I am not sure on how to proceed with job market.. would love your inputs on the same.. I am in 7th course and learning programming for first time! Hope i can pull through.. any recommendations would be appreciated.. thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

Hi @Varun Dogar! Good luck on your data journey. I would say paly to your strengths. You have domain expertise with oil and gas so play to those strengths. When you finish the Certification don't stop (You're almost there!!! Great work). Keep learning. Go back and review the topics you found to be difficult. Start trying to apply your skills on some fresh data. Finding data can be tricky (here is a good place to start github.com/awesomedata/awesome-public-datasets/blob/master/README.rst ). I have some other tips I discuss in this video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGe8fneYrsSeaLc Otherwise, really focus on building a portfolio of projects. It's going to be hard to get job interviews so when you do (which you will) you want to be prepared. With a portfolio and projects to reference you will be able to clearly demonstrate that you are capable of performing the job. Otherwise, be patient with the process. Competition really is increasing which doesn't mean it's impossible, but you will need to go the extra mile! Good luck! And feel free to ask any questions you may have during the process.

Week 6 and I have one issue with the course. Google should split the SQL and spreadsheet part, commands can get confusing as to what goes where. 20+ years working IT if you remember DBase I learned off of that, so I have had exposure most IT people do. The thing that nobody mentions is personality, if you don't get along with people, and can't get in front of a small group you won't make it. My two cents gentleman. Thank you for all you do.
@ChartExplorers3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your insights Rick. That actually makes a lot of sense to split the SQL and spreadsheet parts. I understand why they put them together, but when you are first starting wires can get crossed easily.

I have graduated from B.S in mechanical engineering in May 2020 and still can’t find a job. I have decided to get this certification to find a data analyst job or at least boost my job search as an entry level mechanical engineer. What your thoughts about it?
@ChartExplorers3 жыл бұрын
Hey Giorgi! That's sucks. I hope you can find something soon. I wish I had some tips for you but I don't know anything about the job field in mechanical engineering. I'm not sure if this Certificate would help you find a mech eng job, but having your education plus the Certificate should be a big plus when looking for an Analyst job. Finding Analysts jobs can take a while too, but for you with your BS in Mechanical engineering I'm confident you would be able to find one with this Certificate and some personal projects.

Will people get job after the cert or it is akind of marketing to teach all and value down the market for coming years so that company can hire people.in cheap salary
@ChartExplorers3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ganesh, there is no guarantee people will get a job after this cert. I think it is still going to be a challenge for most people to find a job just with this cert. I'm not saying it isn't possible, but you will likely have to apply for many jobs before finding one and have to go the extra mile to make yourself stand out from the crowd. This is not a way to get cheap labor. The initial fear (I had it too) is that this is a way to flood the market with many analyst so you don't have to pay them as much, but there is no evidence to support this and with the massive expected growth in the data industry it is unlikely this single cert will make a difference in pay.

HI @PUSHPANGATHAN M A, Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you. I have done most of my learning on Udemy. I think the courses are great and you get life time access. There are some good coureses on Courseara (The Google Analytics Professional Certificate - This is a great program), but I have not personally taken many of these courses. I have started some, but find lots to be boring so I tend not to finish (the advantage is you can do them for free, but I am don't have enough experience with these courses to recommend any to you other than the Google Analytics Professional Certificate). I would recommend starting with the Google Analytics Professional Certificate. If you feel like you need more learning you can then here are Udemy courses I have taken personally (just don't get trapped into taking courses and never applying for a job or working on your own projects). Learn Statistics bit.ly/Statistics4DSUdemyCE Learn Python bit.ly/LearnPythonCE Learn SQL bit.ly/LearnSQLCE Learn Data Analysis (this goes into advanced concepts - learn up to and including Logistic regression - you don't need this before you start applying for jobs but it can help) bit.ly/PythonMLDS_CE Learn Business Intelligence bit.ly/LearnBI_CE Learn Time Series Analysis (this is an important skill in SOME jobs, but you don't need this before you start applying for jobs but it can help) bit.ly/TimeSeries_CE
