3:48 Data continually uses contractions "Honey, I'm home" "I'll join you" "You're not my mother!". But when expressing himself, he uses his "Data" tone and says "You ARE not my mother." It's perfectly clear where he is delivering lines of dialogue vs expressing himself. His whole routine is a mixture of jumbled attempts to play roles with few breaks of authentic "Data" behavior. Jenna says his behavior is artificial, and not the real "Data". He says "With regards to romantic relationships, there is no 'real me'." I was expecting him to say "The real me is artificial." Kind of sums up why his behavior in this scene fails, and why their relationship can't work.

I think Jenna's problem is that she was infatuated by Data's good looks but was not patient with him enough for a relationship to work. Data is a learning computer of sorts, he's not all that different from an actual human who's entering a relationship for the first time. Yet, despite that, Data tries very hard to please her and if Jenna had been a bit more patient and stayed with Data until he got his emotion chip, he would have been the man of her dreams. Or any woman's dreams.

I’m going through a rewatch of TNG. I have rewatched a couple episodes over the year but this is the first time I do a complete chronological rewatch. And, although this show is extremely memorable, I am noticing a couple of fun Mandela effects: for example, I remembered this scene but I was sure Data said "Do not compare me to my father!" Which, if I dare say so myself, may be even funnier given how nonsensical it is.
