I got the new CML-P and I must say I'm loving how easy it is compared to its predecessor. My plan is to use CML and extend my 20 node limit by bridging my CML topologies across to my EVE-NG setup where I use the CML images I got with my license.

Between Eve-NG, GNS3 and CLM running on VMware workstations which platform is able to host the largest topology diagram. I'd like to create a topology with two data centers connected connected over the Internet. Each data center would need about 15 pieces of hardware. The Windows 10 computer I'm using has 18 cores and 128 GB of ram.

Great video @Knox! I stumbled across your channel looking for good CCNP topologies as I am not very creative when it comes to emulating an enterprise environment on my laptop. Question: What L2 image do you use to configure Gigabitethernet interfaces on switches? The images I have are limited to Ethernet (10BaseT) and Fast Ethernet (100BaseT). Since both of those line speeds are quite antiquated, I wanted to use switches which emulate line speeds used today. Thank you for the video and keep up the good work!

I was about to ask you what you'd recommend to study for Encor and Enauto between eve-ng and CML, Im starting to study for Encor now.
@DataKnox4 жыл бұрын
Both would be fine as long as you can get the appropriate images. For ENAUTO, you’ll need CSR1000v in particular for the IOS-XE portions (Netconf, RESTCONF, telemetry). CML might be the easier to deploy in that instance since it would come with images, but would be limited later down the road if you want to add other vendors images to it

Sup Knox? For future reference you can edit the .ovf file to allow for install on an older ESXi box. I successfully installed EVE-NG on an ESXi 5.1 PE C1100 (12 core, 72GB RAM). Very old server and works great for virtual labbing. Hmm, The lines are becoming blurred for the best lab emulator with all the added SDN, programmability, and automation. I've been using GNS3 but maybe I need to reconsider. It's hard to beat free though, and since I already pay for a VIRL subscription I really don't want to add another (EVE-NG). I am on the same path to CCIE EI and I'm following you closely. Thanks man...

Hey Knox, I was rethinking the best path for my future and had a few questions. Right now I am lining myself up for ENCOR, but im taking a break to learn some python and some SDN basics. However, after ENCOR I intend to go for the ENARSI, as my passion is enterprise routing. With those as hard goals, here is my conundrum. I love Devnet. It has sparked a new challenge into networking that I felt was missing from learning the old guard networking stuff, and Im not sure what the best time spent vs material learned ratio is. If I had all the time in the world I would go 1.Devasc 2.Devcore 3.ENAUTO. I really want to be a master in all things Net Devops, but Ill be entering the work force in 2 years. Which should I focus on to get the biggest bang for my buck ( bang for buck meaning knowledge gained and salary potential) if I have 2 years time to get them. Thanks again for the straight forward videos. So much confusion and questions on the network engineer journey these days.
@DataKnox4 жыл бұрын
Well, first thing I’ll say is that Python and SDN are on ENCOR so you’re not giving up one for the other. With two years to prep, you could do ENCOR, ENARSI, and ENAUTO. ENAUTO counts towards both CCNP and DevNet Professional so you’re killing two birds with one stone
@JonathanB00K3R4 жыл бұрын
@@DataKnox "ENAUTO counts towards both CCNP and DevNet Professional" meaning all I would need is the DEVCOR after ENAUTO? Do you think its worth it to "skip" devasc in this case?
@DataKnox4 жыл бұрын
JonathanB00K3R to get your CCNP and DevNet Pro, you would need ENCOR, DEVCOR, and ENAUTO. I would caution about leaping into DEVCOR if you’re not well versed in the software development world - I found it very challenging and I worked in that space. DEVASC May be a safer place to start. But you COULD study DEVASC and then just go straight into DEVCOR
@JonathanB00K3R4 жыл бұрын
@@DataKnox do you think I would do well at ENAUTO if I went straight to that from ENARSI? As always, thanks for chatting with me.

Hey @Data Knox, what would you recommend as a good HD size to allocate to EVE-NG. In addition to stuff like CSRs with possibly at least 1 IOS-XR in most of my topologies, I'll be running other vendor equipment like the Fortimanager which I think base uses a 100GB data drive. To test EVE out I built it with 128GB but later tried importing a FortiManager and gave that 30GB but it refused to start. I'll test the Fortimanager with 100GB without increasing EVE's space to see if maybe EVE does Thin allocation.
@DataKnox4 жыл бұрын
Good question! I gave my VM 250 GB
@techmidas4 жыл бұрын
@@DataKnox Cool! I've given mine 128GB and imported FortiManager again and given it 100GB but on disk it only shows MB in size so it seems it uses Thin allocation. Also it seems my issue was to do with the RAM allocated to the FortiManager, the requirement is 1024 but it only works for me when I double it to 2GB RAM.

@@davidmorgan7370 Ping is supposed to be bidirectional communication.. In simple words.. If I can ping you. you can ping me unless my firewall doesn't allow you to hear from me.. So if you are pinging a windows VM - There is a special firewall rule called "Virtual Machine Monitoring (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In)" Make sure that one is enabled beside the normal one.
