Our family has made a delightful dessert for decades. It is a very heavy dense cake that only has one cup of sugar in it ! It requires one POUND of dates, and one POUND of pecans. We normally used Dromedary dried dates, but this year are using dates that we ordered straight from the Middle East. WOW, talk about great flavor !!! Can’t wait to try the cake at Thanksgiving.

I had to find that cook book Chris said was a staple of your mother's. I found it on Ebay for 10 dollars. Apparently, it was put out in the 70s😊 love your channel! Thank you, Miss Tammy, for your yummy recipes.. my favorite is your cream cheese and sausage muffins, so delicious 😋 God bless you and your precious family 💓

Chris & Tammy Your recipe here looks so Delicious!😊 I was checking to see if you were making that "Date Nut Bread" like what used to be sold in the Cans in the 60's and 70's?😮 Not the same, 'cause Your Mama's Recipe is BETTER! My Mother would spead cream cheese across a slice of that canned Date Nut Bread, it was delicious for us kids! ❤❤❤

My grandma made date nut bars. They were thin ,maybe 1 inch thick, very moist, and chewy. She served them warm with real whipped creamor butter(or both). I've not been able to duplicate them, but this inspires me to try again. The dates she used were whole, and she cut them up. I think that helped make the bars more like a soft chewy brownie. You know the kind that rises when baking, then deflates some in the middle as it cools and you have crispy edges and gooy centers. I loved an edge piece that included a generous portion of the center, too. Home-made whipped cream was the best.
@CollardValleyCooks2 ай бұрын
The recipe did say to spread them in a larger pan and make them thin. So I bet it is how she used to make them.

I think for 2 1/2 cups of brown sugar to half that would actually be 1 1/4 not 1 and 1/8th.

Wow..love date bars and now probably this chewy cake! Yum! 😍 I wonder if that older cookbook has the SC Hilton Head Hotel pineapple fritters with pineapple sauce recipe?I lost it back in the 80s. Uses a thicker sauce rather than a glaze.❤ Supposed to be famous at their restaurant..?

I like seeing Chris cook for a change. Wry sense of humor is great. I can't find the Hum Dings recipe on the CVC site but I did find your video making them. I make something similar with dates every Christmas called Valerie's Krispy Date Bars. Dates, butter and sugar cooked on the stove and poured over Rice Krispies and pressed in a pan. When cool, cut into little squares and coat with powdered sugar in a Ziploc bag. My whole family likes them. Anyone who likes dates would love them. Now to watch the Hum Dings video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3OsXoajZ9WFbMk
My mom used to make something similar but it also has orange slices in it chopped up. The candy gumdrop ones. It is so delicious.

😂🤣😅Hi Chris! You sure do have a hard time halving a recipe! If a whole recipe uses two 9x13” pans then I guess a half recipe would use………………..one 9x13”pan? LOL!! This was a very funny video. Really great. It was fun seeing you in the kitchen, Chris. You’re not in enough videos! Thank you (and Martha) for this awesome recipe. I love these “old timey” cookbooks. I am trying to watch, but all I can think about is finding out my former childhood minister was killed today in the Sapelo dock accident. He currently lived in St Marys, and he was big into the law enforcement chaplaincy, His name was Charles Houston. He and his wife have 2 kids and I’m not sure how many grands. They also have Mrs Elizabeth’s mother living with them, She is in her 90s. I just can’t imaging what she’s going thru. I know he is in the arms of the Lord tonight tho. Please pray for his family, and the others that were killed and injured. Thank you.

Thank you. He was a truly special soldier of God. When I last talked to him, it was about finding a place for him to stay when former President J. Carter dies as he was going to be attending the funeral. We never would have thought Bro Charles would die first. He was our preacher when Jimmy was elected.
