How to Pollinate Date Palm. Date Palm Pollination-Easy method for pollinating Mozati (Mozafati) variety

I am Sanjran Gichki,
Today we will pollinate some Date Palms.
With the Help of my Gardener we will learn how to pollinate date palms.
First, get a mature male flower from a male palm. Now open the pod and gently separate each strand of the male flower.
Watch out for the crazy long thorns. These really hit hard. clean your workspace and put 5-8 male flower strands in the female flower, more strands if the female flower is healthy and bigger then tie with a thin breakable string. So that when the bunch grows towards maturity it could break the string and frees itself. Tying is important because it holds the male strands in place against wind or birds.

I'll do the same in order to create hybrid Phoenix canariensis x dactylifera in Southern France when I will have some genetical matos... the best way to conserve the pollen when 2 plants don't flower at the same time is by freeze the pollen during few weeks. Phoenix canariensis x dactylifera has a deep cold hardiness (-12°C) and it tolerates massive wintery rains and snow.

Is it true that a female date palm which makes baby trees at it's base will produce female plants? Also how best to encourage them to grow and root please? I have simply added quality soil around the base of the baby plants to encourage rooting! How then is it also possible to remove them easily when big enough and how long to wait? Further, do you have any advice for a feeding program for best plant health and results? I do also mulch around the base of the plant for moisture retention and encourage worms! You Can grow almost every type of Date palm, as u have dry and hot climate.. If u have farmer friends, go and get date palm off-shoots, with off shoots u get true variety as by seeds u never get true variety. U can get male and female off shoots.. every female date palm can take any kind of male date palm. Dont worry. But u need to take off shoots from a mother date palm

bakrin sirajudeen my dear, dig a hole double the size of the palm trunk both by width and depth. Bury half of the trunk in soil Soil type is not so necessary as it can grow in almost any type of soil except heavy clay.. sandy soil would a perfect choice. Date palm need alot of sun. Untill established water twice or thrice a week, when palm established then water once a week..

Brother this is too difficult to identify either its a male or female untill it starts flowering(means its about 3-5 years old). And i will not suggest you to grow from seeds, bcoz grown from seeds the offsprings will not be true breed like the mother plant same as citrus plants. To have the true variety you should propagate via off shoots. 50% chance it will be male and 50% chance that it will be female but not the true variety.

Its not possible to identify male and female date palm tree untill the fruiting stage. (First year of fruiting). Normal healthy date palms will start to fruit in the 4th to 5th year if grown from off-shoot, if grown from seeds will take from 6 to 8 years. There are many varieties of dates. We produce 14 variety of dates and each variety has its own worth and market. In Pakistani market "Mozafati" variety is sold in abundance and there is a huge market for it.

It doesn't have so apparant benefits... Infact in this season allergic people do get pollen allergy. But again during this season there is alot of pollen in the air from number of fruit flowers. So cant convect only Date Palm.

Welcom dear😊.. To ur question i can only say u have to wait, bcoz its very difficult to recognize a female or male palm in early stages.but if its 4 to 5 years old. U can (with 60% surety) by looking at the thrones and trunk. Male have bigger trunk and heavier thrones with less space between thrones while female trunks are a bit slender and thrones are spaced farther, but its just with 60% chance as some female varieties thrones are very crowded... So far only by genes it can be known if male or female.

We dont. As female flower (after pollination) gets bigger it will break the thing string and frees itself. Thats why we need to tie it with a thin breakable string. If in case it doesnt break the string, just untie it urself after 2 to 3 weeks.

Its a hard thing you asked here. Grown from seeds date palm take frm 6-8 years to fruit for the first time. And it is really hard to distinguish sexes as there is no physical differences between male and female date palm. For best propagation i would always suggest you to take an offshoot from a parent plant(male or female), 1 it fruits within 3_4 years and second u will have the true breed(variety). Contact any date palm grower to give u offshoots in ur area.

U can. But you know there is a common thing. Old seeds have less germination rate than fresh seeds... There is 50-50 chances that those pollens are alive. Otherwise that work sometimes

Sorry guys, but i wanna say that you're doing a good job, BUT what you doing with the male part is complete WRONG! please wait for the male pollen to tear up by it self and then you can use it.. you can't just cut it when it's closed.. this is wrong guys.... what we normally do is wait for the male to open/cut by it self and then cut it and lay it in calm place and exposed to the sun; the more the sun will hit it the better. then it could be cut into small portions and placed in the female...depending on the type of the Date tree though, some needs more pollination and needs little..

When the male tears up we locally call that"Sarritag" means it has over matured and pollens tend to fall down, as flowers of the male also open. Those male flowers can be used too, but this is not wrong. As with experience one knw if the male flower is mature even if not crack opened. U can see the pollens in the video from the male flower 😊

+Khelian Dee its easy to know when its start of the season. The male flower has strong smell and has pollen in its flower, while female has no pollen. And when male flower blooms it seems somehow a different structure like something busted,while female flower keeps its shape and gradually changes to fruit shape either pollinated or not.
