Thanks for this , I’ve got about 6ft fortunai and surprisingly had green seeds , now turned yellow . Did want to know when I could pick them . I also have a 2ft European palm has green seeds . The black seeds can easily be mistaken for black berries ! I’d also love to see palms growing on my street, if the palm seed accidentally ended up in a small hole. Any idea how long from seedling takes to grow 50cm?

Yea the seeds are ripe when they turn a dark purple / black. Saying that, they do still take when green in my experience. For a trachycarpus fortunei to reach 50cm I would say it should take about 3 years or so. Their growth does speed up once the roots are properly established.

Might be a daft question but the new plants from the seeds. Will they be male / female or can they be either ? I’ve a trachy in the garden which has been growing for the last 7 years. This year a couple of the fronts from it have the green balls on. I’d love to try and grow some

Hello, my male Windmill Palm in the backyard is not releasing pollen, yet. It only has one nodule & I don't want to cut it prematurely, so I'll periodically tap the nodule to observe pollen falling before I cut it from the tree. The female tree is circa 150' away in the front yard & so my question is: When will I know the female tree nodule is ready for pollinating??? Thanks!

The large structure you cut off is an inflorescence not a single flower, actually
