I have a friend who won’t live w her partner ( his kids who are out of the house already would never “ permit “ it anyway … yup I said those words ) so she had a separate place in Fort Lee NJ ( pricey ) .. they’ve been doing this dance now for over a decade and his house is exactly as I described above and she she says it’s really creepy to be there so she try’s to avoid staying there ..ever lol. And the kids have known her since they were I want to say middle school age but nope no. Never accepting. Not even acknowledging her existence unless absolutely and totally necessary

I can really understand what tamar is saying because I had dated a guy with a daughter and it was horrible. He loved his daughter and the babymomma used it as her advantage every chance she got. He was a great guy but the baggage was too much. It was all a mess and was pointless to go against anything she was doing because he felt it was all for his daughter when in fact he was blind and she loved every minute of it. Girl. Mine just told me he spent his last on me...when he claimed he was balling. Craziest part is I never asked for the money. Now this child's mother is asking for receipts. The first straw was when she called his phone and he put her on speaker, and she randomly said she shaved down there....then he commented okay i'm getting a haircut smfh...then I called him up today and his schedule is making him late, then he's tarting to complain about spending his last on me when he claimed to have hella money & now his child's mother is asking for reciepts after saying he was spending a lot of time in my town. From my experience i have dated three guys, in different age ranges with kids or one kid, and they were all jerks. They always ran back to their baby mother or wife (they of course displayed to me they were single) but its not worth it. Not saying everyone is like that or but it changes your perception of men with kids for sure. A guy with a kid would have to be more invested in me. I prefer my own family.

I'm not saying that its a bad thing to date someone who already has kids of their own from a previous relationship, but its not the first thing that you look for in a person when you want to be in a relationship. I wouldn't date a woman with kids, so it is totally understandable for a woman to not date a man with kids (especially since many men with kids these days don't accept much responsibility for actually raising the kid). There's no balance, taking on the responsibility with building a relationship with the partner and their kid(s) while they place building a relationship with you low on their priority list. It's better for single moms and dads to date eachother.

I was about to date a guy with a daughter, but I felt like he was “holding back” on certain things. He has sole custody of his child (the mother only comes in and out of the child’s life if she’s not locked up in jail) and like an adult, he does let her see their kid. The mother hated me as I am his closest friend before they got together. Abomination don’t do it. I would only do it if things between the mother and him were settled. Custody and minimal to no contact between him and baby momma. Although with all that I’m sure there would still be drama. But my last relationship, he cheated on me with his baby momma. MY opinion is..it depends on the age of the couple. for example, if a coupe is 35yrs plus in age, has been previously married and had kids and find a new love, kids are potentially 10-12 years old, maybe even teenagers depending on the age of the person. I don't see anything wrong with that. now when youre a 25 year old female with no kids and your dude is the same age with a 2 year old, maybe a 4 personally for me, I am GOOD on that situation. I’ve been in a long term relationship with a man who had a 17 year old son when we met. Even though he was almost an adult, there was drama and he was not able to be 100% emotionally available with me. And the sad thing is that he didn’t want more kids with me. And his son was nice enough to me, but there was no way to form a solid bond because I was not his mother and I sensed he felt threatened by my presence, since if his father married me and had a kid with me, then his inheritance would be reduced. Being with a single dad is messy no matter what the circumstances or how much you love someone, and it’s can prevent you forming your own family with your own children.

When you’re in love you accept everything about that person? You don’t have to do anything. You can accept them and love them from a distance. I recently had to make this decision and as long as you’re willing to accept that you will never know what it feels like to be a priority in a man’s life - then go ahead. The child is always before you and number one. The baby mama will always be calling asking for things so sometimes you have to accept sharing your man not just with the child but also with the woman. What would be time for you and him alone will be time with the child too, doing kid things together. It’s not for everyone. If you’re happy to be less of a priority and neglect your needs - go for it

Single dad of a daughter in elementary. BM lives across the country and is uninvolved. I honestly gave up on dating until my daughter gets older. There is no worse feeling then when a women is attracted and flirting with me, and then immediately drops all interest once I reveal that I'm a parent. It's all good though, I'm focused on success.

it is not personal, it is because of the statistics most men end up reconciling with the baby mama, and the worst part is after you are in love with them and now your heart is all caught up and he just drops and runs back to the same woman he swore they can never work out. I tried it once and i was scarred for quite a while before i healed. My advice find someone with kid(s) at least you are in the same boat.

This is one of my biggest fears. I have a daughter and unfortunately her mother and I did not work out, but I come from a very family orientated family, and I have dreams of what I want in life. I hope you find someone great. But from my experience i have dated three guys in different age ranges with kids or one kid, and they were all jerks. They always ran back to their baby mother or wife (they of course displayed to me they were single) but its not worth it. Not saying everyone is like that or you are but it changes your perception of men with kids for sure. A guy with a kid would have to be more invested in me.

Well the guy im dating has a two year old son. He has full custody of him. So we only get to see him. His baby mama always calls and asks why we have pictures togather with the kid, but ive helped the him since he was 6 months old. Adrienne clearly doesn't realize how ugly divorce (assuming the couple was married) can be, especially when kids are involved. Yes, ideally everyone does what's best for the kids, but the real world ain't like that. I gotta say, Tamar is right about baby mama drama. I have several friends who have married men w/ kids from a previous relationship & it's always a lot of drama w/ the mother/ex. As a mother myself, I wouldn't have wanted just any woman influencing my kids when I wasn't around.
