The main difference is: in Germany there are no generally known dating rules that can be expected to be known by others. It is individual and spontaneous. When two people meet it's like they invent dating again for the first time. Everything is possible. That's the fun.

I have not watched most of your videos but what i have seen you speak very well with that common German directness. And I think you have developed a good balanced outlook and attitude between Germans and Americans (regionally, considered). And congrats, its cool to see how your channel really exploded recently! I think i first saw one of your videos maybe early February as i was preparing to start filming my own and i think you were in the low 20k subscribers and you went from 30k to 40k so fast!!! One thing I always asked myself... what does "dating" even mean? Some say it is meeting oneanother at, lets say at a restaurant, flirting, maybe, checking if the other one might be nice, some say it is a seriouse relationship with cuddeling and so on and... you know... kissing, screwing around, relationship, family. Some say a "date" is just meeting someone on a friendly basis. When I hear " I am dating someone" or " I have a date tonight". What can I expect? Casual? Friendship? Looking into it? Already ongoing relationship? Friends with benfit? Just friedship fun? Brotherhood? With your parents or with the milkman?! "Date" or "dating" is a term hard to differenciate in English. What states are there, what would the be called etc?

So are so right. I always wonder and i really got the idea they do a contract before the date wuch explains what kind of date dos and donts.... when i friend from America calls me and tells me " i have a date tonight " I always ask which one? Funny thing Americans don't go on Blind dates cause they are in their eyes to dangerous .... but tinder dates or any other site is fine ....

i think its not about being open to date different girls/guys. i think its more like that a "date" does not equal a relationship, its a path that may end in an relationship and how this path goes depends a lot on your own perception and behaviour. usually there wont be a point at which you or she asks if you are together now. if you date a girl for a while and she resonates to you, there shouldnt be a reason for both of you to date anyone else. that is the moment when the relationship starts and after that the "openes" stops.

I guess Germans usually work under the assumption that if you start to date regularly, you are also "exclusive" unless negotiated otherwise. That doesn't mean that this ends up in a marriage, just that you can trust your partner to not sleep around (again, unless something else has been agreed). Hence we never have to clarify that it is exclusive, we have to clarify when it isn't.

The unspoken rule in Germany is that if you start to date you are exclusive unless stated otherwise. Thus said, it is completely okay to state this, you just have to be honest about it, so that both participants are on the same page. At the same time, though, even if you are exclusive, it doesn't necessarily need to be for live. Divorce rates in Germany have been fallen in the last years, but mostly because people don't marry that fast and easy anymore, and especially not their first partner. They test out what kind of person they really feel they can spend their life with and then then might marry. Or not. Some even have children with each other but never bother to marry. I think American women are under more social pressure. Pressure to have their dream wedding with "Mr. Right", pressure to not sleep around too much if they don't want to get labelled as a slut, pressure to get children at a certain age aso. Those old fashioned attitudes are still present in Germany too, but less prevalent. The first time I went on holiday on my own as a teen, my parents gave me a package of condoms, just in case. This attitude is unthinkable for a lot of American parents. For me it was completely normal to have boyfriends visiting you while you were still living at home without someone doing a control. And asking the father of the bride if you are allowed to marry? Urgh! I guess some people still do this, but it is way more common that the parents are simply told "hey, we plan to marry, that is the wedding date we picked out, will you help with the preparation?" The German women who didn't immediately jump on your beer offer were most likely of the careful sort. Meaning: They aren't looking for something casual, they are looking for something more serious. So if they sensed that you were more interested in the sex than in them they naturally backed off. Everyone is different after all.

plus, when life expectancy was maybe 40, you´d be married for, say, 20 years - now that life expectancy is 80+, that makes it a whopping 60 years if you get married at age 20! a lot of time to learn to hate each other, go on each others nerves, get a divorce - so people marry later in life, and the time they are married stays about the same...

German women tend to make a "shit test" if they look for something serious. They look how serious you are about them and what your real intentions are. This means they wont make it easy for you and you have to make serious efforts. Ask them if she would like to have some non-alcoholic drinks like a coffee or tea in a cafe. Taking a walk is also popular. BUT if they are more "open minded" you will get to know it pretty fast as they dont beat about the bushes. When searching for a serious relationship, dancing on many parties is a no go for most Germans. Dating several people at a time is considered rude.

I disagree on in the US dating is more serious. I'm 35 and I think with dating websites (and now apps), it made dating not serious at all. To me it kind of takes the romance out of it when I know a guy is seeing several girls at once. For me it makes it feel like a competition where I have to prove that I'm the "better" one. The ease of getting dates online just for a drink or coffee and then sex right away with no strings attached, seems to be he norm in the US now. FWB situations today are more common than people think. When I date someone, I focus on them and I do not do the numbers game of dating a few people at once. That said, I'm a serial monogamous and still single so what do I know. Dating norms are very different now vs say the late 90s.

Eric, I have so many questions for you but first of all: I never figured out that there is a difference between serious and exclusive relationship. And there is a variety of words for what is between a man and a woman, relationship is a real strong one. Tho, if you are talking about this, the term could be misunderstood. How long do you live in Germany? Did you date other girls first or just your current girlfriend? And where are you from in the US (before you lived in Florida)?
@ladyravenandcrow7143
@ladyravenandcrow7143 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I try to help out and answer one question. Out of the perspective of a German married to an American. A serious relationship is almost always the whole" I am in love with you, I can imagine to one day be married to him/her, I am introduced to the parents of my gf/bf, I want to have a family with him/her (if kids are wanted) ." No other dates on the side, no hiding from friends and family. Exclusive relationship is more in terms of physical exclusivity, doesn't mean I love him/her, doesn't mean I want you to meet my parents, doesn't meant I am not looking for someone else or someone better while dating and while making out exclusively just with the person I hang out with on a regular basis aka a non-serious gf /bf or friend with benefit. So you can be exclusive without being serious but hardly ever serious without being exclusive (unless an open relationship). Exclusive doesn't mean it has the same emotional depth as a serious one. I assume you were shot down out of sheer disinterest. Maybe it was a fun moment at the time being just to talk and flirt but without further intentions. Because even in Germany a guy can ask a women " Wollen wir mal zusammen was trinken gehen?" Or " Hast du Lust, dich mal auf einen Kaffe zu treffen?". As long as it wasn't mentioned " zu dir, oder zu mir?" it can still be regarded as a nice and fun way of getting to know someone. I had countless fun and weird conversations at bars pre-marriage life and still declined to take it any further quite a lot. There is even another aspect, if a women is already dating someone else aka is taken and still has a girl's night out.. attention is wanted at times but no invitations for dates. Who knows? I don't think you did anything wrong.

A first date is in 98% a k.o for the brain.. imagine the one you meet feel the same. One day you get over that point to feel embarrassed thinking about all this what was in your eyes not that perfect. You will laugh about later. Dont let that thinking what others may think about you rule your life. You are worth it to and yiu can decide to if you like someone or not. Einen Korb zu kriegen gehört zum normalen leben dazu. I'm the queen of disaster i got tgem and gave them believe me

Thats the first thing. In germany if you have a date that can mean you have a diffrient one the next day. But if you are dating like multiple times thats alrady exclusive. Would be cheating if you date an other person At least where i live in germany

Dating is also different in Germany, depending on the area where you live. I'm from North Rhine Westphalia and I live in Frankonia. The people in the Cologne arena are very open minded. But it takes a long time to establish a serious relationship. Here in the Nuremberg area, the locals are rather closed. But once you break through the hard shell, friendships for life develop.

This is typical for the southern part of Germany. Here in Baden-Württemberg, the situation is similar. Once you crack the hard shell, things for life can develop indeed.

Married Guys still fool around at the Gyms or Spas with other Guys, it's there freedom even when married, that's why they still have those Clubs and Spas separated by gender! 😲😳🙄 See yourself now? ...... maybe you're picking up too much of the US American way of a Marriage. Good, Eric O N L Y talks about dating, except his 1 time Marriage 😉 (ein Ausrutscher!) .... erst mal muss Er einen Kerl daten, wohlgemerkt wir sprechen von dating, nothing more 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😇😇😇😇

And I wish you and YOUR Emmy Pankhurst all the best... and I think it is absolutely brill, that you have a "WG"... see, my sweet and I have the same.. so if the MASTER goes on my nerves I can go to my own room.. *lol* I think its great cause everybody needs it´s a private place, even in a relationship.. But, the difference with american men and german man.. haha.. there is a good one.. You Amis are way more romantic, most of you are the flowers at the door guy and YOU are way better with compliments.. and don´t we all know that a female likes compliments.. *rofl* .. that was a hard one for me to learn, cause german guys, mostly do not "smother" ye with whee lil romantc gifts.. MAYBEEEEEE.. thats why a lot of us german females REAAAAAAALY like US-men.. *lol* I got the german-us-men type.. yes he wears the pants sometimes, but he is also very nice.. and thank heavens he lets me wear the pants sometimes too. *rofl* And I just laughed tears about the story with your HARLEY.. pfff.. Sitting naked at a sauna and being offered a massage from the opposite gender is kinda creepy though lol. Especially when you are women and no one else is in that sauna room besides the amateur masseuse. Happened in real life. Been there, not done it, walked away without the shirt.

Hahaha they hit you here for this saying... For me who go often to the sauna u guess its just your wish. ... otherwise i don't blame on you. ... in the mixed sauna why not start a flirt and try to catch a date? But usually you start talking in the sauna and then you stay outside dressed of couse wait the ine cimes out to and pray he/she comes out and how ever continue talking to you... For al not Sauna knower. .. in the german sauna we might be nacket but we do have conversations there even with strangers about everything... gardening soccer and you really can make friends there. Oh and yes if we see some flirting we ALL OPEN OUR EARS AND LISTEN to them ( whike doing like we sleep or dreaming.. somethinglike that). oh and for me as a woman i don't mind a nice guy with tatoos sitting there so i can stare at the pictures. I know it's a big schock and a huge different between Americans and Germans. But we dont have only mixed Saunas, we have gender or age theme saunatimes as well... anyway dont hit the guy who about a flirt in the sauna .... its a normal guy dream and most never come true... ummm @Krautsalat can you make a video about the german sauna? I would donate a really cool real Saunahandtuch for you.

For me, "dating" is only that part, where you get to know each other, before you're in a relationship. When you're in a relationship, you're not supposed to see / date another person, because things are getting serious now. (in a "classical" way) if you're looking for an open relationship, that's ok, as long as you ask the other person if she/he wants it in that way as well or accept it that way. In America you call it "dating" until you're married. At least, that's what I in the movies or hearing on other channels.
