See this is a problem why it's a little difficult for a western person to date an asian person, most especially their women. First and probably the most important thing is that you have to understand her culture, especially if she was born and raised in Asia. Most asian cultures have a very tight-knit relationship with their families, especially the traditional ones. So if your dating one, you shouldn't only try and impress her alone, but also her family. And you not only need to respect her but her family as well. Now I know this sounds ridiculous to Western people because she should be able to make her own choices because it's her life. But trust me, once the family dislikes you, it will cause a problem down the road. Think of it this way, an asian girl and her family are like a package or a 3 in 1 promo, you can't just buy one, you have to get all 3 together. That's like them and their family too. This probably sounds super ridiculous already but because Westerners have more of like an individualistic culture, it might be hard for them to understand these kind of things.

It takes a lot of patience from both people. I've been married to my wonderful, Filipina wife for many years and it's required both of us to be willing to give and respect the other's culture. That, and I've grown to like the taste of dried fish and dinuguan. :-)

Paul Young Oh I see. OMG! Don't remind about dried fish! I'm filipino too and I now live abroad and I miss eating that so much! And speaking of dinuguan, I just had that like literally yesterday. :')

Dried fish was one of those things that took me a bit to get used to and now I love it. The compromise on it was, we fry it outdoors so that our whole house doesn't smell like it for days after. I do still draw the line at, and refuse to eat, that horrible, pink shrimp paste. :-)

Paul Young HAHAHA! We do the same. But one time we cooked outside and the neighbours complained. They said they've been smelling an awful stench. Haha! And those pink shrimps are my favourite!! Gosh I would trade any food over that anytime of the day. :)

Julie Hermoso I'm realy late to respond but i'm going to. anyway, "western" is realy loose terminology Europe falls under "Western" even though our Cultures are very different and many value Family very highly, but we don't obey our families more like a trusted source for advise and support.
