This video gives you the real deal on what to do and expect when dating Ethiopians or Eritreans. I breakdown key cultural customs (e.g., greetings, food, language, religion, and family matters, etc) and key dating tips when dating and marrying an Ethiopian or Eritrean. This video sets you up for success to either make a good first-impression with the Ethiopian or Eritrean or even their parents. Hopefully this helps you find love and a good match!
#DatingEthiopianWomen #DatingEritreanWomen #Dating #Habeshas #lilatalks
Disclaimer: Nowadays, most Ethiopians and Eritreans use 'Habesha' to categorize our ethnicity at a high-level. However, previously 'Habesha' was used for Tigrinya speaking people and 'Abesha' was used for Amharic speaking people. Also, the word "Habesha" is derived from Arabic - burnt skin. I don't think most Ethiopians and Eritreans are aware of the origination of the word, Habesha, but either way, it is now used in social clubs, such as, the Habesha Network, Habesha Union to describe both Ethiopians and Eritreans.

Thank you for the information. I live around Ethiopians and some Eritreans and I had wondered why they would be shy except for the elders than when I had traveled to the countries to see the culture. Some things I had knew already but several things that you mentioned, I didn't know. As for dating, I never tried to talk to them to date, but I am more focusing on who they are as a person and I had enjoyed the warmth and loving experience in their countries. Thank you once again. This is incredibly useful intel! I have been smitten by Ethiopian women since I worked alongside a habesha gal a few years ago. I'm also Eastern Orthodox by faith, so meeting a gal who is Ethiopian Orthodox would be a tremendous benefit.

This is a valuable niche for you to cover as there are many Ethiopians and Eritreans in the DMV where I reside. I get the impression they do not like to mix/date others. Maybe I will learn otherwise by watching your videos. Also, the fact that western customs are influencing the culture is disappointing. I think the seasoned traditions and customs maintained thus far in Ethiopia and Eritrea have contributed to the longevity of the strong family structures.

Yes, there are a lot of Ethiopians and Eritreans in the DMV area. This is where I reside as well, which prompted me to make these dating videos to due so many inquiries on the topic. We have no hatred or hostility. We just prefer to stick to our own men bec. we know exactly what principles and values they were raised with so there is no time being wasted to date and establish trust and what not. Our women are not cut to be stuck in long-winded aiming no-where relationships. Sorry if that sounds harsh. Also, many Habesha men are groomed to value family and their families have probably put some savings away for the long awaited day when they will get married to a good and virtuous woman they can entrust to carry forward their bloodline. We take this all seriously and cannot waste it on relationships that are not founded up on firm footings. I hope I don't sound harsh.. we are super friendly and welcoming but the three things we don't mess with are God, our families, and our properties.
@MegaBladerunner007
@MegaBladerunner007 2 ай бұрын
@@Chatelaine0 With all due respect, I don't think hatred or hostility is an issue. I would not expect that from a people purporting to be Christian. But then again Christians do have a history of committing nefarious deeds despite what their bible tells them to do. We can study the Christain Crusades as an example of this. What the issue seems to be, from an outside observer, is a perceived feeling of superiority to anyone who is not Ethiopian or Eritrean. This manifest itself as "your good but not as good as me." That can be problematic because good people with good traditions and family values, capable of love and compassion can be found all over the world regardless of their nation of origin. The important thing to note is that these qualities come from within a person and while they can be the result of a bloodline or ethnicity, this is not always or every time the case. Perhaps if more Ethiopians and their neighbors tried being open minded, discerning of character and accepting of other cultures as not less than but just different, this perception would not persist.

Wow that’s a very interesting topic. I have a video about my personal Black experience and my upbringing as an Ethiopian Eritrean America. But as for speaking on African trans, I feel I wouldn’t be able to adequately talk on that subject. I’ll just say that most African countries are very strict and religious when it comes to individuals sexuality and identified gender. Just like anywhere, but especially in Africa, people’s lives would be endangered if they express their identity in a certain way.

Pretty good video but I thought that you left out a very big part of dating advice when getting to know a Habesha woman.. what about trying to learn a bit of the language? I think that is a very key piece of dating advice that you left out. Nothing speaks greater love for a woman's culture then at least learning a few words. Communication breaks all international romance barriers.

I loved the video. Just a concern that I love parents to come visit but what if the Mother inlaw is not the good type. 😢. This is very tricky. I better find out more about her parents during dating before marriage.

Bravo! Ethiopian culture is very similar to my Igbo culture from Nigeria. Family is central. Dating is practiced, but it is foreign. Usually, it's courtship then marriage. There is protocol for marriage that involves family. The only challenge I would have marrying an Ethiopian is language. I would have to learn the language, and I would highly recommend the woman learn Igbo. Very interestingly, my father's mother's family looks Ethiopian. I never really inquired to know their history.

This is how it used to be in America and still among some people in the South, usually conservatives. These are good cultural traditional that should always be preserved. It creates order and reduces chaos and dysfunction. Amer I can culture is on a downhill slide socially because of the break from these traditional family values.

We do not meet boyfriends/girlfriends in our culture and we kiss 3 times as well and we are mostly orthodox as well. We also financial support our family back home. Elders are taken care off till the end. My mom spens 6 month with us in the U.S, every year. My culture is very pushy when it comes to food, hahaha. 80% of our culture appears to be the same. Fascinating! I'm from Macedonia. Macedonia men feel offended if you as the women he took out pays.

Dear Lila, i would add a disclaimer or invite the other ethnic groups to describe their culture over. The culture you are describing is mostly valid in the Christian semetic cultres of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Which is your experience and absolutely fine. But i would either add a disclaimer or let others talk about their culture and customs. So that some of our brothers and sisters won't feel left out. And some of our ill meaning brothers and sisters won't use it as an example of cultural supermacy of the semetic tribes. Things are very complicated in Ethiopia now until we figure out the new Ethiopia, where everyone feels equally represented, equally accepted and respected. I guess progress is painful, as long as a better Ethiopia comes out of it, i am for it.

Also, another disclaimer... not all Americans only see their immediate family as family. The Afro-American community does have extended family.... including friends we grew up with. We consider them family. Even though not all of our communities are like that, many of us are.
@LilaTalks
@LilaTalks 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I agree with you to a degree. I think there are some sub-set communities within America (particularly the black community or folks from the south) that I've observed have a more extensive extended family. But if I am generalizing, most Americans, tend to keep things pretty tight within the immediate family. For example, an Ethiopian or Eritrean wedding may have 800 people and that is somewhat normal. It isn't about having money, it's about the close family and friend connections.
