As an outsider, one of the best things in my youth was growing up in a Polish neighborhood. All of my friends were Polish; they were tough, stubborn, hardworking, and religious. At that time (the late 1950s) in order to date a Polish girl you first had to get permission from her brothers. They knew your reputation and if they told her that you were not dating material you were definitely history. And if she didn't have any brothers she would rely on her friends brothers.

Amusing but I don’t think this differs from anywhere else in the world, in essence. Be a decent guy, respectful, well-mannered, cultured and ambitious. I think most women, no matter where they’re from would say that’s what they look for in a man. As for the “hot tempered and headstrong” I don’t really agree. Polish girls are raised to be strong, independent and to have confidence in themselves. They are raised by their mothers and grandmothers who had to be strong through Poland’s recent history. This isn’t temper, this is strength of character.

@jekubos5 жыл бұрын
Paying is not so simple so you can say "man always pays". The general rule is that the one who invite pay. So it is even possible, that girl will pay for a date. But of course men often suggest that they will do it anyway. But the most important thing is to do not force anyone. If a guy says that he want to pay and girl says "no", just accept it. I would say, that it is good for man to suggest that he will pay, but if a woman don't want it, then don't force her and let her pay for herself.

When I was about to meet my wife's parents for the first time, she seemed very concerned with it. Finally she told me why: her father was worried about whether I could drink vodka, as foreigners usually had an issue with it. To me it was a relief to hear that, though. I figured I'll be just fine: Lonely Planet Polish phrasebook had told me that "only Russians and Finns can match prodigious vodka consumption of the Poles", and I have this perk of being a Finn.

From my experience: you'd have to impress my mum but never by buying her gifts. She judges how much a guy loves me from the way he looks at me or talks to me. Also, interesting - yes, rich - no. It's important to us that a guy has energy and passion. The more hobbies he has, the better. If he has an interesting job (like professional traveller or a cook) that's even better. And in terms of splitting the bill, I think it should be proportional to how much you earn. So if you earn twice as much as me I'll pay every third time.

First! :D Yes! Polish mother-in-laws can be intimidating and many times purely destructive, and I really mean it. There is even a short lyric about them: 'szła teściowa przez las, pogryzły ja żmije, żmije wyzdychały a teściowa żyje' which goes more-less like this 'mother-in-law went thru the woods and was bitten by vipers, vipers are dead now but mother-in-law very much alive'. On the other hand polish fathers-in-law, the traditional ones are much, much easier going, especially if you know how to work with your hands (fixing cars or home improvements) and have moderate to high tolerance for adult beverages. :) Man who is unable to work with his hands is commonly referred in Poland as 'Dupa' (Ass), and will score very low on a father-in-law scale, the only reprieve from that is if a dude makes really a shitload of money and can afford hiring people to do these jobs without hurting a home budget in a least. :D You forgot; ABSOLUTELY MUST OPEN CAR DOOR FOR HER ...like an old-fashioned chauffeur!! I actually went searching for videos like this talking about the culture differences between the USA and Poland, specifically because on my study abroad trip to Poland, I met for the first time in my life a guy I was interested in. We met at a dance club a few times, and I was the one who asked him out on a date, which normally I had never done before, and even though my visit was short, we stayed in contact when I went back to the states through social media, chatting virtually almost everyday (though me being the positive american, I chatted way more than he did), and it would be about 7 months now as friends. Naturally, the more we've stayed in contact the more I want to get to know about his culture and about him, but im mostly hesitant to broach anything romantic since I'm not sure where he stands, what I can say or cant say haha.(for context, Im in my early 20's, and im Venezuelan American so a lot of polish culture like family and religion crosses over, so i really like that) Americans are more the type to go for it and be blunt, dating is more casual (I dont date since I have little time for it), and I can see interacting with a polish guy is more slow going , cautious, and not quick to put a label onour friendship since they seem more serious about commitment, which was novel to me. Naturally I got very curious on what all this meant from a polish guy in the 21st century 🤣 As a venezuelan american woman, i can say with confidence a lot of the traits you mentioned about polish women are the same in my culture, so at least if I ever get the nerve to ask him out again seriously, he will be used to my temper hahaha! on that note, Id love to see what poles say about dating culture from both women and men 🤔

How long did it take you too learn basic polish?
@LoveMyPoland6 жыл бұрын
It took me about 3 months, BUT I had classes 5 days a week for 4 hours a day at certified school. I would expect a typical personal to become communicative in 6 mos to 1 year (assuming you put in the work ).

I think most of the stuff you've mentioned makes sense in smaller cities or more traditional families (or your experiences are slightly outdated since you're married now) :D As someone who lives in Warsaw I can't imagine any of my friends letting a guy pay on a date (in extreme cases it is also considered offensive :D), making a scene in public or letting their mothers interfere in their relationship :D I also can't dance at all :D Great video though, I absolutely love your channel!

@linglingsurvivor66904 жыл бұрын
honestly the things you mention are realtively true, but they may be arguable depending on generation and region I assume. E. g. to be frank, I have NEVER came across any kind of dancing on family celebrations (maybe apart from weddings), most of my friends are not really the kind to shout or be any kind of passive agressive, especially in public. But what's worth mentioning is that I noticed more of this kinds of arguments you mentioned just beetween for example mother and daughter only and more often in families from smaller towns rather than big cities and more old dated ones. Although about being a gentleman and paying for her meal - in my experience that's really true! I mean it really depends on a girl and the paying part is changing a bit, but when you do pay for her (also for example for her museum/cinema/theatre etc. ticket) it's more like, it shows that it is a date and not just a meeting (unless there are circumstances that show that it's not a date even though he's paying). But when you pay for her or if you are a gentleman that shows that you are cultural, you know how to behave, you were raised well and care for her and in general it just feels nice :)

I’m 19 and American and am visiting Poland for the first time. I met this Polish girl through friends about a week ago and am interested in her. I got her WhatsApp and am hoping to see her again before I leave in a few days. However I don’t want to come on too strong, would asking to see her again before I leave be too much to a typical polish girl or do you think it would be fine? So far we haven’t texted each other yet but we have met 3 or 4 times now. I don’t know if that’s too much and could be viewed as an invasion of privacy or something like that. Because I know some other cultures like French girls can be like that at times, especially from an American. Thanks so much for the great vid!

This is so hilarious and so true ;-) yes - polish girls are strong and respected, but it is not sourced in our temper but rather in our history. During the war or german/austrian/russian ocupaton polish girls often stayed alone without their men and had to take responibility for their whole families. We are still raised to take responsibility, stay strong and demand respect ;-)

I hate guys to jump to wrong concussion about Polish woman because I think they're very nice good girls and exelent mom and wifes. I have brothers and they told me American girls just too easy and I just told them please don't put all American girls to the same bascet because I am sure not all of them the same just because you had some bad experiences.
@marimetr42615 жыл бұрын
Sill I think your girlfriend now your wife helped you with that because it was up to her if she wantsto be your wife. You' was nice guy don't take me wrong and the way you was behaving politely and respectful at front of her parents (special her mother) helped because that just conformed you're the guy for her and they did not gave you hard time. Mother is close to her daughter specialy when they're in that age I am sure they been talking about you before you even had the chance to met her in person. I am sure your wife said nice things about you to her parents special her mom that's why her parents treated you the way they did because they knew their daughter was in love with you . Most of the girls not bring the boyfriend home to meet their parents if they are not serious about the guy because they know their parents will ask a lots of questions and don't want to deal with that themselves and put her boyfriend through. In your case since they could not ask you all the questions because of the language barrier they all asked their daughter more about you. Maybe I am wrong in your case because I was not there but I know if that were my parents they would definitely do that if I brought American to their house to meet my parents

There are exceptions to the rule - I'm a female and I hate dancing, probably will never learn, and I think I'd refuse to dance even at my own wedding, lol! My partner doesn't dance either, and also loves cooking (me, not so much). But I generally agree with all you said. Disappointing hearing about the level of knowledge in America though... They will expect from you to know how to cook and to like it. If your relationship become serious you will enjoy having the last say in the home and your decisions about everytking in familly will be the law. But there is also price, you will be responsible for children health and education. It will be your bit to keep familly feed and house clean. Some guys will share the house duties but it likely will be them 'hepling you in your duties'. Perhaps right thing to do will be to use your powers to 'train' the partner to participate in house routines.

I've dated a Polish girl and she was by far the best girlfriend I've had (even though she unfortunately had spent years in the UK so had been influenced by the gender war nonsense stuff taking place there) I would actually like yo move to Poland as I've been there a number of times now and really love it, the cities (Krakow, Gdansk and Gdynia) are gorgeous and have this sort of enduring feel to them, the country in the south is beautiful. But as someone who is fairly ambitious and can't doesn't much Polish (learned a bit but combining the fact I find it difficult and that I've heard even after 10 years of loving there, a lot of people are still hard to understand for locals when speaking Polish) what sorts of jobs would even be available or realistic to get for foriegn people? Keeping in kind I want to move there to be a part of society and because I love the culture and people from what I've seen, and yes....the women are absolutely amazing and ridiculously attractive. Not sure if it's realistic but I would love to meet a nice Polish girl and settle down. They have something special I can't quite out into words that nobody else does, and I'm pretty well traveled.
