I remember some of these customs still being followed in the early 1980s. I wish they were still followed today 😕. I do like that girls can order for themselves, pay for themselves and they can ask the boy out. But, I wish the modesty and going steady would make a comeback. Nowadays, people seem to rush into physical relationships and don't take the time to get to know each other. Simple dates like dinner and a movie or just an evening walk allow time for talking and really getting to know each other. Just my opinion.
@findingbeautyinthepain89652 жыл бұрын
@Chaya Staub-Krell Yes, I completely agree. I love simple dates that allow you to talk. I even love just sitting on the couch with my fiancé with all electronics off. When we first started doing this, I thought we’d spend a half hour or so talking. But I find we talk for hours and hours when electronics are off. But as someone who wears 1950 hair styles (and clothes) I know it’s possible to do a wet set and blow dry over it. This way your curls are done in an hour, and you don’t need to sleep in your rollers. It also allows you to wash your hair during the day lol. Were blow dryers very expensive in the 50’s? I wasn't around during the 40s and 50s. I was BARELY in the 60s as I was born in 1969..I raised both of my sons to hold the door open for a lady. They are a couple of the FEW Millennials -GenZ who actually do that. 😁

Oh my gosh the vintage commercial! I love when KZbin creators find creative ways to include their sponsors.

I remember my Dad ordering for my Mom, and if he took me out for a dinner, he ordered for me also. I thought it was charming. ☺

ya’ll….. things were not nicer in this time? did you guys forget how racist, homophobic, transphobic and sexist these times were?
@tir3d_al1za2 жыл бұрын
i wish more of these videos would actually point these things out. it was HARD to live in these times if you were not a well off straight white man. if you were to ask any woman in this time almost all of them would say that their husband hit them. please don’t romanticize everything about these times.

I'm probably a bit younger than most people in the comments, but I'm old fashioned with dating and women and I would have loved to be a part of this era!!!(minus the racism and segregation of course ) It's hard to believe that doing these things in 2022 is called "simping". What has society come to nowadays? Is chivalry really dead and buried??

Dear Sage, you've done it again! I feel nostalgic for an era I never even experienced. These types of videos are my favorites, and I appreciate the level of artistry and research you put into each one. Thank you for your lovely channel.

I feel there was a lot to be said for the no-kissing-on-the-first-date standard. Some men think that if they pay for a date, they are entitled to physical affection/favors (not all men are like that, thank God, but some are); and, if a woman had said "yes" to a first date just to be polite or give the guy a chance, it was good for her to be in a situation in which no level of physical intimacy would be expected. If you really like someone, waiting till the second date to kiss won't kill you.🙂

I still think men should pay for dates and open doors! It’s important we still value a man’s masculinity. People back then recognized this ❤️

Going steady is a nice term. While I do like it that a woman can ask a man out and pay for her own stuff, I wished, things weren't that complicated. Either you are a couple or not. That seems so hard to figure out today. Also that with the bow placement was interesting. I only knew that one from wearing a Dirndl before

I definitely would love it if some dating traditions were still in place, I love the idea of calling someone my "steady" and things like that, getting pinned. I love the whole idea of the guy coming to pick me up and calling me for a date, these things are adorable and I love this so much. I wish those things were still in place today

I don't know. I like all the non kissing first dates as today most end up in bed. Sweet video of sweeter and more innocent times. Lot's of chivalry.
