Hello Darlings! In this weeks video I roast my younger self and her fashion sense haha! It was so cringe looking back on all my old outfits and I'm so glad my style has developed over the years (thank goodness!) Let me know in the comments if you went through a weird fashion stage too!
Thank you so much for watching!
Lots of love,

I went from hippie to vintage. As a teenager I was really into Woodstock music, 60s social activism and culture (minus the drugs haha). I was already interested in earlier decades as well but it didn't really occur to me that you could dress as if you jumped out of a Carry Grant movie. I think it also would have been too 'mature' of a look for me at the time. I did have a tiny heavy metal phase in-between. Then back to hippie. Now I am in my 30s and loving the 1930s-50s. The style is just the right amount of classy and playful, gives me confidence and it is just really fun! It's like age-appropriate dress-up haha

I was born 1944 and I absolutely love seeing how you are recreating the 1950's Teens and Women in the '50's tinted their hair with powdered Henna, which came in a gelatin capsule. The routine was to dump the capsule contents in a container of water and pour it over one's hair after shampooing. Lemon squeezed into a final rinse also was used to combat the alkalinity of shampoos. Other things from the very late '40's - early '50's were CARE packages to Europe, Oreo margarine in a bag with a packet of yellow food dye (butter was still restricted for years after WWII ended). Families only had one car. We still grew veggies in aVictory Garden behind our house until early '50's. No air-conditioning so families sat outside - either on city stoops/stairs or country porches. Stayed outside as long as possible until the night temps dropped. Hand fans while sitting in church with windows open to the breeze. Spam and eggs. Stockings and garter belts - pantyhose was seen as extravagant when it first was introduced. My father bought the first TV in our neighborhood in order to watch Queen Elizabeth II Coronation! - and half our Bronx neighbors crowded into our Living Room. Children played outside unsupervised until streetlights came on. Children ate at meals and no snacking. Monday was wash day. Tuesday was ironing. Clothes were hung on the line to dry according to size and category (sheets, shirts, towels, and last - socks). neighbors judged each other according to their laundry. Our pantry was always full of preserved fruits and veggies until late 1950's. TV antennae's on the roof, that the poor men risked their lives adjusting .Windows were cleaned with Johnson and Johnson glass wax and old newspapers. All women knew how to sew. The first half of the '50's was quite different from the 2nd half of the decade.

thank you for sharing , it's gold to like minded people to hear how it was , funny only hours ago i was cleaning the kitchen window with paper towel off of a roll and windex window cleaner and i was thinking how as a kid in the 60's we used a bit of methylated spirits and newspaper and i haven't even seen a newspaper for over ten years , on hot summer nights we didnt use the lights to try to keep the heat down i the house and just slept with a sheet and the small electric fan rotated back and fro until we'd fallen asleep and dad switched it off , a tv repair guy my dad knew loaned us a colour tv in the early 70's to watch the olympics and most of the neighbours came to our house to watch colour tv , it was new in ozzi then

As someone who went through this, this is on point. I went from wanting to dress like a founding father(A.K.A. Hamilton) (so many cardigans) to wearing a mix of modern basic clothes and trying to get a somewhat 50s look. Then in most of college it was button ups and khaki pants. Last year I recently wore more skirts and now have a style of 1940s woman or 1910s man(shirt, suspenders, and khakis). This was when I really got the vintage style more refined. :)

This was a very interesting video about your style evolution. In the 2010s, I was very interested in the 1920s styles. I had been watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries from ABC, and loved her hair, and clothes! I had my hair bobbed, and tried to dress in what I thought were 1920s style clothes. I bought a few cloche hats, and wore them almost everywhere! When Covid hit in 2020, I couldn't go to the hair dresser anymore, so it grew longer, and I tried some 1940s style updos, and wore a bandana on my head, like Rosie the Riveter! I started curling my hair, and arranging it in various styles. Now I just curl my fringe, and put the rest up into a pony tail. I wear jeans with the cuffs turned up, and a nice top. I suppose my current style is 50s casual. I don't have any vintage clothes, but use what I have. I haven't gone to a store for three years! The cost of living is way up because of Covid and the War in Ukraine, so we make do and mend! Mom says the way we live now reminds her of the dirty 30s when she was a child. There is gas rationing, now, and we don't do a lot of driving. Anyway, I feel as though we are all living in the 1940s during the war! ~Janet in Canada

I love vintage because I grew up listening to old radio programs, watching old television shows, and getting into old jazz, big band, and crooner music. However, I dressed hippie in high school, and then halfway through I became goth (everything dark and spooky). While I love vintage and sometimes wish I had made that plunge, I ended up decorating my house vintage, but remaining goth. I like your channel because you don't just dress vintage, you also do a lot of research into past decades, as I have done and still like to do. Thank you for showing your style evolution. I used to dress semi Victorian in high school but that changed in college to preppy and then eventually typical Madonna 80s. As I got older I went more boho. As much as I love the 30s to 50s, I must have felt I couldn’t do that style because that was my moms era and I guess I needed to rebel a bit. I love all 30s to 50s movies as I grew up watching them with mom. Loved the elegant glamour of it, but eventually I just did the rock n roll sixties boho look, which I am still at. Maybe it’s time for another change?

@SageLilleyman
@SageLilleyman 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have some tips to help! 💕 Pin curls will always result in looser curls compared to foam rollers. In this video my hair is curled with foam rollers which creates a very tight ringlet! Also depending on the length of your hair the curls will be tighter for shorter hair and looser for longer hair. So when you are doing pin curls try and make sure you can only just fit one finger in the curl so it stays really nice and tight, use a setting lotion and keep your curls overnight for at least 10 hours (this makes sure they are completely dry and very set in place by the time you brush them out!) I hope this helps! Let me know how it goes xx 😘

You’re so pretty! I’ve had a similar transition. I have dressed more hippy ish for years and now this past year I really like dresses that look vintage and want to start making my own.

Great video, your beautiful in every picture. I think the accessories are a huge part of completing the vintage look. My grandma had a huge jewelry box full of "costume" jewelry. I think it would be interesting to see a video about how to accessorize a vintage look. Shoes, belts, scarves, jewelry, hair combs etc by the decades! Lol. I just realized how much work that would be. Maybe a series?

Where do you get your reproduction shoes? They are so hard for me to find 😫

I have one pair from a brand called Remix Vintage shoes, they are super high quality reproduction shoes so I highly recommended them! They are quite expensive though, so it may be something to save up for or ask for as a birthday gift! I have another pair that I bought second hand from a clothing app called Depop, they have some great pieces on there too! 💕

Cute! We all go through style evolutions, esp. when you are low on funds. I remember buying crap from Target not cuz it was stylish but because it was cheap. I also went to college in the 90s so there was no ETSY then. Ugh! Terrible.

I dress a blend of true vintage, modern vintage and tomboy. Currently just working on the homestead, so I don’t really want to destroy good clothing farming and working on the vehicles so old T-shirt’s and board shorts are most commonly worn this time of year. When I do have the chances to go out, I like to dress up. I’m intimidated by doing hair and make up as I never really learned how to from someone and YT (and your tutorials) have been a great help!

Hai... aku punya banyak style. 1. Pakai rok pendek diatas lutut. Ketika kecil. You can C. Aku pakai kalau ada yang memberikan aku baju. Kakakku penjahit. Sangat update style. Karena terhasut guruku. Baik ya.. seperti biarawati. Aku pakai jilbab tapi lengan pendek dan celana rok pendek. Cita-cita kesampaian waktu madrasah aliyah. Kelas X aku ke warnet dekat sekolah kepergok kakak kelasku pakai. Yeah.. Kelas XI IPA. Aku pakai jilbab. Sampai sakit. Aku semakin tahu aturan nabi kami. Tersurat. Ketika sakit kena ain dan inah. Akhirnya kembali ke kitab sebelumnya. Tidak pakai jilbab. Aku masih muslim. Kuat. Doakan aku masih muslim. Aku tahu kalian tidak menyembah samiri. Oh ya... aku dulu jilbabnya besar. Sekarang. Jilbabnya berubah-rubah tidak monoton. Aku ikuti arus seribu wajah. Bukannya membosankan. Bukannya orang lain terlihat lebih cantik. Oh ya.. aku nggak bisa pakai celana jeans. Badanku lumayan fat. Bukan flat. Memang aku flat. Dikira ibuku aku bukan anaknya. Very very more flat. Jadi kakakku selalu memegang my nose. Oh ya.. Aku suka lipstik warna peach orange. Kenapa aku pakai lipstik merah. Terpaksa. Dan mencoba cara baru. Lipgloss lipcream and lipblam. Kok bisa yang bisa seawet itu. Lipstik mirip dukun kan? Oh ya... aku nggak bisa pakai eyeshadow. Aku lihat di vlog. Lumayan sulit. Ketika beli. Aku coba. Nggak pigmented. Kemudian salah. Aku padukan dengan dengan putih. Alhamdulillah selamat. Aku nggak bisa merawat rambut. Dari kecil aku dikepang ibuku sampai seusia ini. Aku lebih suka diikat maupun disanggul. Seperti mbok kejawen. Mirip kan? Pasti bingung. Itu ratu atau dayang. Ibuku bekerja jadi pembantu. Jadi malasnya seperti bos. Kreatifnya seperti pembantu. Aku hobi memasak. Mencoba resep di internet. Kalau dibenci teman sekelasku. Sejak Diploma. Aku muak. Jadi aku pakai sisa uang sakuku untuk membeli semua bahan. Aku juga menabung untuk infaq ke masjid. Aku tak mengharapkan apa-apa. Tak terpikirkan untuk masa depanku. Akhirnya aku jadi orang terkaya. Tapi aku nggak mau menyimpan uang terlalu banyak. Aku takut sama setan hasad. Banyak setan jelalatan menginginkan duit. Bibiku yang pensiunan taiwan pun masih minta uang dan hutang kepadaku. Padahal dia duitnya banyak. Dibalik itu pasti pensiunannya banyak. Suaminya kaya. Anak tirinya punya mobil, bengkel kayu, dan usaha chaterinh. Sementara anaknya sendiri melarat. Mirip kalian. Dia punya 4 suami. Setiap anak bapaknya berbeda. Ada 3 anak kandung. Entah itu anak angkat disusui sendiri. Atau anak kandung. Atau pinjam suami orang dan anak suaminya untuk menyelamatkan dirinya sendiri. Sayangnya dia punya suami. Kalau masih janda. Aku jual dia ke kalian. Dia punya angen-angen ke luar negri. Dia pernah di malaysia, singapura, dan taiwan.

It was neat to see how your style evolved. I love flare jeans and wide legs pants still. But I’ve always loved the vintage style, don’t think I would commit to it. IT was a time when people cared how they looked and took time to look good and not like they just fell out of bed.

It's a different Animal🦊 ~the "correct" way to wear a "poncho" is to, Before doing, 'something, like, eating, you flip back and over the shoulder the front/dominant-hand side like you might flip your hair to one side for brushing. 🦊~just bring your questions to Me ...i'll give you the answer even if its, "i don't know"🚬 . . .

Hip hugger bell bottoms were a 1970s trend carried over from the 1960s. Being born in 1971, I hated seeing myself in pictures during my early childhood in hip hugger bell bottoms. I loved the 1980s trends into the 1990s but I've always adored the Victorian Era styles and the 1950's (my mom's youthful years since she was born in 1946.) The black and white saddle shoes and the poodle skirts and white ankle socks.

First picture...I love your outfit way better then your sister! Jeans, espeeeecially denim skirts bore the hell out of me!Especially with an even more boring white T-shirt!😂 I have a very eclectic taste! Almost everything I owe is second hand and I have started a while back to refashion and make my own clothes! The dress next to the Christmas tree is beautiful! I have a few genuine vintage items, including a Victorian scarf and Edwardian blouse! James looks good with long hair!😜 That's funny with the glitter! And hey! Who doesn't like vampires sparkling in he sun!😝😂

Im a bit older and first started doing vintage in the early 90s (rockabilly was very in style at the time) anyway, I've always had fun traveling through time with fashion. Best not to pigeon hole oneself, in my opinion. Today can be 1958 and tomorrow 1926, 76' the next day. If hair is shoulderlength, the style options are unlimited.
