This is the real reason for dress code in IT companies. Service based companies (Eg. Infosys, TCS) have external clients and have mandatory client visits. So this makes them follow a formal dress code and it is like a sign of respect to the client and to maintain the company's name with the client because business is driven by them. Product based companies (Eg. Facebook, Google, Amazon) do not have external clients and all of their work is consumed by internal teams only. So no need of a dress code.

There are all kinds of people the it industry employs - those who party and others who don't ,something that depends purely on the person There are even companies that make their employees come to office on Saturday to meet deadlines. And as far as team outings are concerned , it all boils down to one's team, which also functions only according to the company's policy. Of course, there are some projects in which employees indulge in the kind of activities you mentioned - playing table tennis and taking part in team parties-but it's not the norm
